My first encounter with Georgia was in BJSC. My second encounter with Georgia was when she support Jungle at O2 Academy Leeds, which was the first time I heard this song. It stood out by a mile from all the other songs in her set, and I was delighted when it came out as a single. I first heard it whilst at Centre Parcs so this song always gives me good memories of that, plus it's a fab song!

Is This Love's chart run is very unrepresentative thanks to Eurovision, but this fab follow-up is certainly not. A really solid track with some really solid vocals to complete a very good Irish start to the year alongside Walking On Cars and We Are Messengers!

Another failed BJSC entry now, I discovered Teleman after hearing a Pete and the Pirates song in Nuggets and found out that the majority of the band had emigrated here. This took a while to grow on me (the off-timing of the song is certainly a bit weird on first listen) but it grew to be a massive favourite of mine, a fun quirky little indie piece.

About Work the Dancefloor is an interesting dance song, shame this kind of dance song can't become popular these days.

I'm confused. Rea Garvey represented Ireland or Germany on Eurovision?

"About Work The Dancefloor" is a song I start to like a lot now, it's in my top 10 this week.

"Kiss Me" is a fantastic song from Rea Garvey, also I don't think Rea was at Eurovision, he was in The Voice of Germany, though.

Seeming that I haven't heard of almost any of your chart I decided to listen to 3 songs at random (I will try to listen to a few more soon) and here are my thoughts.

Beat Of My Heart - You certainly weren't kidding when you said it was similar to 'Are You With Me' It's a nice song and the singer has an interesting voice. Nice video with a Wall.E-esque robot in it.

Roll With Me - I think it's already by favourite thing Jonas Blue has ever been associated with after just one listen :D ZieZie sounds much better on this than he did on the recent Aitch song too.

About Work The Dancefloor - It sounds very Robyn. The verses are decent but I don't like the chorus at all unfortunately.

He wasn't in Eurovision but one of his songs would have gone Top 10 if not for Eurovision. About Work The Dancefloor is a strange one, looking at the number of EOYs it's in it's clearly very popular but just not fully picking up the mainstream. Thanks Jason!

Glad you like AWTD! I mustn't have worded myself well oops, what I meant to say was that the Eurovision onslaught prevented Is This Love from getting a Top 10 peak - thanks Sergej!

The highest Crystal Fighters song now, this is an incredibly funky pop song with some great syncopation (there, I used my GSCE Music for something :P ) and their ever-fab vocals. I'ts certainly more poppier than their previous stuff but it's still really good!

In a year in which we've had collabs from Madonna & Maluma, Galantis & Dolly Parton and Post Malone & Ozzy Osbourne, a duo between mellow guitar-strummer Jack Savoretti and squeaky pop singer MIKA almost fades into the background. Nonetheless it intrigued me as a fan of both artists, and what we ended up with was a brilliant pop track which highlights Jack's gravelly voice even more. It remains a favourite of mine now.

It was so difficult having to cull one more song from the Top 20, but in the end I had to pick the highest song from the Walking On Cars album. This was the long-anticipated comeback single, and whilst it's not as gripping as some of the other songs on the album, it's certainly very emotional (not Too Emotional though :basil: ) and a really powerful song to return to the spotlight with.

Just before I go to bed I'll start the Top 20 by booting out the highest charting Eurovision song of this year. It didn't really grab me on first listen (the intimacy in the performance was a little odd) but it immediately stood out in the recap, as my eventual favourite songs often do. It was certainly an alternative pick, and very quirky, but for me it works. The fact they changed their name to 'zalagasper' directly after their Eurovision performance is certainly very confusing also.

Next up we have the highest charting entry from Keane. On first listen this song really didn't feel like much, it certainly lacked the punchy-ness of The Way I Feel, but I guess that that was a good thing in a way as it made me a lot more interested in this one. Turns out it's actually even better than their first single, the harmonies in it are incredible and the melody is brilliant as well.

From one indie band to another, although we've travelled across the world for this one! This has been fairly high in quite a few EOYs and I can definitely see why, the twangy guitars and funky percussion in the background gives this song an incredibly jazz-esque catchy-ness to it that really makes this a favourite for clearly quite a number of people.

At #17 we have the highest song with a female lead (sorry women), this is a real cry for environmental help. It takes a quote I first heard in high school but is now one of by favourite quotes, and bases this very harrowing but also very technically well-made song on it. It really is a masterpiece and thank you Jade for helping me discover it!

Another more recent song now! On first listen I really didn't think much of it, but then it grew on me VERY quickly and ended up debuting at #1. Into the Top 15 we go with Kaiser Chiefs' comeback single! This would ordinarily have debuted at #1 however it was released the week after Eurovision and the same week as a very important song which is still to come, and initially I thought it would drop away quite quickly, however watching them perform at Elland Road gave them another boost and it eventually got to #1 on its 10th week in the chart (which was also the week of release of their album), a record wait! It's quite different from their other stuff, definitely some vocoder influence in there but I like it!

Suzi Island (now with their female member firmly cemented in the trio) released their third single this year, and it certainly got off to a slow start and ultimately peaked lower then their first two, but stood the test of the time and was the longest runner in my Top 100 for quite a few weeks and is now just as good as the first two, just missing the EOY Top 10 this year.
