That would be a good move for him, I reckon. Harsh on Albon who has earned the seat but Bottas probably feels he needs to take control of his contract talks. Rumours keep linking both George Russell and Vettel with the Mercedes seat and Valtteri needs to sure up his options before time runs out.

Formula 1's plan for cost-cutting measures has been approved by the sport's governing body the FIA.

The changes to the sporting, technical and financial regulations were passed by e-vote at Wednesday's world motorsport council meeting.

It was "due to the need to reduce costs and safeguard the sport in light of the Covid-19 pandemic", said a statement.

F1 had previously agreed to introduce a budget cap for the 2021 season, but these new measures go further.

Last Friday teams voted to accept a plan to lower the budget cap to be introduced next year by $30m to $145m (£114m).

This will be reduced again to $140m in 2022 and $135m for the period 2023-25.

Reports are coming through that Toto Wolff has resigned from Mercedes. Although he may see out 2020

Formula 1 has been given the go-ahead by the UK government to hold two races at Silverstone this summer,

F1 sources say people involved in elite sports events will be exempt from a requirement on international travellers to self-isolate for 14 days.

Sports will be required to submit and win approval for a detailed plan of their movements and activities.

The government is expected to confirm the move later this month.

F1 2020 opening calendar

3-5 July - Austrian Grand Prix (Red Bull Ring)

10-12 July - Steiermark Grand Prix (Red Bull Ring)

17-19 July - Hungarian Grand Prix (Hungaroring)

31 July-2 August - British Grand Prix (Silverstone)

7-9 August - 70th Anniversary Grand Prix (Silverstone)

14-16 August - Spanish Grand Prix

28-30 August - Belgian Grand Prix

4-6 September - Italian Grand Prix

so 2 races in a row in the UK? how come?

To fill up the calendar and reduce travelling around the world.

I read that countries are allowed to hold 2 races so long as they name the second one differently according to a loophole in the regulations. Like how Italy was able to hold races at Imola & Monza by calling the former the San Marino GP.

USA has held 3 GPs in a season before; I'm pretty sure there are no restrictions to the number of grand prix per country, per season - the only restriction is they need to be given different names!

70th Anniversary Grand Prix seems like a bizarre choice though, it could have been called the European or even English GP. Year 75 seems like a more monumental landmark of Anniversary GP were to be a thing. 😂

the San Marino name is kinda funny... cos San Marino is this tiny little country within Italy

but the San Marino GP is not in San Marino, it's nearby but not really

so it's kinda mis-leading in a way

and I used to live in the north of Italy for a while and I remember asking people and actually many Italians thought the San Marino GP

took place in San Marino proper and not Italy :D :D :D

Sochi, the venue for the Russian Grand Prix, says it is open to the “possibility” of hosting two grands prix this season.

Oh no anything but one is bad enough.

I would normally totally agree with you but I'll take ANYTHING if it adds more races to the calendar, heck I almost found it a shame when Paul Ricard was dropped completely...
Russia is a global hot zone for corona so that’s not my top priority of host countries there. And that’s not even considering the fact that it’s hands down one of the worst race tracks ever created
