I wasn't referring to Raab (whose interview was terrible). There was a Rep strategist on who was appalling even by their usual standards.

Seth somebody from Georgia - he was openly rude and laughing over what the other commentator said. Just the worst example of Trumpism in action.

Does Trump's much better than expected performance in Ohio bode anything for WI, MI and PA which are also Midwest states I wonder though?

Not necessarily. Ohio is technically in the same situation as the rest of the Rust Belt with the mail-in ballots, it's just that Trump is so far ahead there (because it's a tad more Republican than the rest) that the networks are fairly sure Biden cannot make up the gap, whereas he can in WI, MI and PA.

The final result of Ohio will be closer.

I don't know how he thought he was projecting a good image.

But aren't there mostly just mail ballots left now? Surely those are going to be overwhelmingly for Biden? There are some reports that the Biden votes from Philadelphia outnumber the Trump votes by 16 to 1.

Bernie would have won. I warned you all this would happen. Centrist politics is dead, ans cheating Bernie out of the nomination, the actual popular candidate, and claiming only Joe was electable because he was right wing - only for the Repubs to call the corporate Dems communists anyway!! - was always going yo br a recipe for disaster. Hopefully Joe will eek out a win, become a lame-duck president, and then stand aside for a progressive candidate at the next election, OR, hopefully, the People's Party will replace the Democrats for the next election. The massive Trump and Repub senate support means more fascist candidates like Tom Cotton will probably be the future of the Repub party. P.s Bernie would have lost Florida, which was one of the main reasons MNSBC was screaming that Joe was far more electable, but he would have easily won Nevada, North Carolina and Texas.

I don’t think he cared? Or indeed was doing it deliberately. Either way the fact the BBC were giving him the time of day was ridiculous. Mute and get rid.

It looks like Michigan still has Detriot to be added in, so hopefully that will be enough for Biden. Wisconsin is mainly mail-in ballots so hopefully he should have that too.

If Biden can take Michigan, Wisconsin and Nevada it's game over for Trump!

I warned you all. Let this be a lesson to centrists that neoliberal, concensus, status quo politics does not beat the populist alt right easily.

I've calmed down a bit lol and I'm hopeful Joe can get this, but even if he does then the Democrats need to learn. This should've been a landslide...

I mean, you're absolutely right.

There were a ton of good left concessions in the Biden campaign. Not enough, and not what the majority of the country would support (see the Fox News exit polls I posted at the start of the night), but much better than had Sanders not ran.

Do you have a plan for moving people over? You're broadly right in this and your other post, but this sort of style of rhetoric is normally not accompanied by any sort of outreach to get voters on your side. For 2024 (both US and UK), I'd like to see the left move beyond smarmily sitting on the sidelines firing off 'should have picked my candidate' as the neoliberal struggles to defeat the alt right.

because my plan is 'make populism leftist again'. Which it can be. Leftists just need to stop being so damn esoteric and picky.

Or in other words, follow the example of Sanders, who throughout this campaign has not been a bitter loser, has actively worked to help Biden get elected and managed to get a nice portion of what he wants into the Democrat platform for his efforts.
It’s reported to be the highest turnout since 1900. Considering it’s so far fallen very similarly to 2016, I think it just highlights how divided the country is and how set in stone those divisions are? I definitely think a more inspired candidate could have been chosen but I don’t think Sanders would be the one to overturn those deep set divisions.

Bernie would not have won. Infact, none of the other Democratic candidates stood much of a chance. The only thing that helped the Democrats this year was Covid-19, but wven then on the exit polls about 45% of people think Trump has done a great job of handling the pandemic!!! This just tells you what the country is up against.

This is what people always say - there's an incoming progressive wave that will wipe the Right out totally if you just wait long enough. Trouble has always been that the middle aged progressives seem to disappear to be replaced with right wing homeowners and pension holders who start to worry how big changes might play out. Now that might change in the future with the rentier generation, but the numbers show right now Trump has increased his voting share in African Americans and Women. From what I have read, Trump has won Florida on the basis of getting the Hispanic vote who are fearful of communism (which make no mistake about it, is the angle the Republicans will go down for any heavily left leaning candidate)

Ah the good old fearmongering branding communism/socialism as the biggest enemy of "The West". Capitalism will die on its ass and forward-thinking people are looking into ways to make our society function better and quite LITERALLY save our planet :')

People are the worst.

#AOC2024

20 year olds will go in droves to the polling stations for her <3

I mean you can say this with every single election but I would love to look at a couple of alternative universes where Sanders and Warren were the nominee.

Biden was never really the right candidate, but Sanders or Warren wouldn't have been either. It needs to be someone new, younger, charismatic and more diverse candidate with a clear and direct message and willing to call out exactly why we're in this mess. As I said, a lot of this campaign was just 'it's TRUMP, you surely can do better than that!' and 'ew far left!', is it any wonder no one knows what to do?! Kamala Harris, Michelle Obama or as mentioned, Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (would she not still be too young?) would definitely be a step in the right direction.

Not that I'm giving in to despair yet, apparently there's been some positive gains in Arizona and Wisconsin recently.
