This is legit the most pointless reworking I've ever heard. What even is the point if you're going to add so little? Not that this song should've been touched anyway :/

(why do they change it to 'the willow tree' in the lyrics yet the 'hanging tree' is in the title? Is it a radio edit? :unsure:)

'The Hanging Tree' is probably only in the subtitle as clickbait, people wouldn't know what song it's sampling just by looking at the title otherwise.

I'm not here for this sudden hate train of this though. It's great and very CamelPhat which we need more of doing well.

I guess it’s because it’s more of a sample use as the lyrics aren’t completely copied from the original but more the melody of it
Yeah I think this is great, the sample works very well and the production is taking from everything that's actually good about popular dance music sounds rn

People don’t know The Hunger Games?????

what has our world come to

where have I said that?

I mean to say just by looking at the title 'Midnight' on its own or 'The Willow Tree' wouldn't give away what it's sampling - 'Midnight (The Hanging Tree)' as a song title will get extra clicks from those intrigued to hear a dance remake of that song, even if they've changed the lyrics.

It took over a month but it reached another new peak today at #51. It has hung on for a long time around the mid 50’s but it has seen a climb for the last 3 weeks in a row, but yet another frustrating chart run nonetheless.

88-68-56-54-52-57-61-56-53-{51}->10

that MK remix is great!

anyhow it's assisted its climb to #46 in today's mids, at least it won't be left with a frustrating #51 peak now but top 40 still seems too far out of reach.

omg is it finally going to make it!

Honestly it’s been so tense watching all of these dance tracks creep up recently

Who would release a fad song from a 2014 movie in 2020, and change its title?
It was a commercially successful song though? It charted in several countries and it's hardly unknown. As already discussed it's not just the title that changes, it's the lyrics too. I'd say it's certainly more on the inspired side of dance covers/samples being chucked around at the moment.
I've been aware of this song for months but haven't heard it in full until now - it's actually sounding pretty nice! Would definitely be here for this cracking the Top 40 this week.
