well at least Keisha & Becky and Options aren't in the bottom 10, that's a result somewhat.

Memories getting nothing but -5s from me *.* I thought I Don't Care would've been the same but I must have decided I disliked If I Can't Have You/No Guidance even more, which isn't the case now (as well as SeƱorita towards the end of IDC's run, but both of those songs I dislike about equally).

Surprised to not be in the top 3 fans of 'Options' as that was one of my favourite UK rap hits of the year! And me not being in the top 3 haters of a Maroon 5 song either :o A very non impaktful section there with me not being in the biggest fans or haters of any of the songs B-) Mostly makes sense as I am pretty ambivalent to most of those songs - 'Memories' is extremely sleep inducing but as with other recent M5 hits I'm not finding Adam Levine nearly as irritating as I used to so I'll take it over their earlier songs. Didn't realise that Maroon 5's run of Reshuffle #10s was pretty much rivalling Ed Sheeran's  'Moves Like Jagger' deserves the #10 more than nearly any of the others but ah well ~ and I don't really have anything against 'Keisha & Becky' but it's not a song I'd ever choose to listen to when the very similar but much better 'Gun Lean' exists (and I don't really care for most of the additional verses in the remix).

Ā

The saga of Russ' name changes has been quite amusing to watch but I'm glad he seems to have settled on 'RussMB' on all platforms now (except YouTube where he continues to be called just Russ, but as a consequence I believe all of his music is blocked on YouTube in the US )

Ā

They actually did release a new orchestral version of 'Bruises' for its re-push as a single but it was of course the original that continued to attract most of the sales and streams.

Ā

I'd forgotten just how slow-burning a hit 'Options' was, there may yet be an opportunity for 'Gangsta' by Darkoo to eventually go top 10 then as that's showing similar signs of slow-burning longevity... (albeit a bit further down the chart).

Omg, I think I've noticed a member named Risen before but lmao at us both being two of Bruises' biggest fans here *_* Not an alias I swear

Ā

Oh and 'I Don't Care' would have got more than one +5 from me but of course 'Cross Me' debuted the following week which I ranked higher every following week!

I was surprised at that too! You were one off with 14 points (+5, +3, +4, +2); I think I recall you saying it had already peaked for you before it hit the top 10 :P

Impressively Aitch debuted straight into the top 10 with his first notable solo single 'Taste (Make It Shake)', and spent 4 weeks at #1 on Spotify but kept missing out on the official #1 due to 'Take Me Back To London's remix pulling it ahead. Apart from Lewis Capaldi's 2 longest runners, it received more +5s than any other song below #60 in this countdown.

'Rewrite The Stars' is the first 2018 carryover to appear, and a memento of the week where 2 James Arthur songs (the other one being Dalton Harris' 'The Power Of Love' X Factor winner's single featuring him) and 6ix9ine entered the top 10 at once. Without that competition, it was able to do worse in its 2019 weeks, actually lifting 'ZEZE' to #9 after it spent its first 6 weeks at #10, but then climbing back to #9 ahead of '18HUNNA'. It has the 4th worst average vote of 2019, ahead of 2 upcoming one-weekers and 'No Guidance'.

I'm still not sure what happened with 'Ransom' stalling then getting a sudden boost on all the Spotify charts, but that carried it into the top 10 for a while and it did pretty well here for rap song standards. Arizona Zervas, meanwhile, came out of nowhere so fast that I first heard of him from Spotify tweeting that he was on Today's Top Hits and 'about to blow', which was both strange and suspicious as they usually wait until songs are at least slightly established before throwing them into the biggest playlist. And the suspicion doesn't end there. Maybe 'ROXANNE' was already huge on TikTok though (whether or not that was just industry-planted). Unfortunately for it, it has since become the first reshuffle #10 of the new decade. 'Outnumbered' also... exists, and got a lot of mid-range votes. I appreciate it for feeling reminiscent of this obscure Australian song I love (in the talk-sung verses).

Only 2 weeks ago, in the shadows beneath the 'River' saga, Alexa also managed to push John Legend into the top 10 with his John Lennon cover, an 'Amazon original' tacked onto in the middle of a 'super deluxe' re-release of his 2018 Christmas album. Unlike 'River', which certainly had fans, John Legend managed to have the majority of his votes be -5s, and not a single one above +1. That week having a below-average amount of voters saved it from exceeding the -99 'No Guidance' scored in one of its weeks, but otherwise, it scored the lowest points of any week in the last 2 years. Average-wise, that score was easily the worst of the last 2 years, with -3.92 compared to -3.54 for 'No Guidance' at its worst, and -3.55 for 'Perfect' in the first week of 2018. (There are worse scores and averages in the deep archives though, the worst ones I currently know of being -129 for Enrique Iglesias' 'I'm A Freak' [with 39 voters] in March 2014, and a -4.63 average for 'Leeds, Leeds, Leeds (Marching On Together)' in May 2010.) Unlike 'River' which got a music video, John Legend's cover isn't even on YouTube, and the only place I could find to hear it without having Amazon Music (I'm not sure if it's even available in Australia if I wanted it) was the chart show replay, a level of restricted availability you never see anymore. By saying 'happy Christmas daddy & mommy' in the intro, John Legend's daughter Luna (at least I presume it's her) might be the first person born in the 2010s to have contributed vocals to a top 10 hit? I cannot say the song deserved better than this, though in fairness I think 'All Of Me' has ruined John Legend's voice for me forever (at least on ballads; I still love his 2008 single 'Green Light').

Otherwise we have a bunch of short-lived hip hop top 10 hits. 'Fashion Week' debuted ahead of 'Options' then fell to #10 when it dropped out, while 'Disaster' climbed to #9 when 'Location' entered. '18HUNNA' has the 3rd worst average vote of 2019, ahead of only 'No Guidance' and John Legend, seemingly not even managing to benefit much from the top 10 that week being full of aging songs. There is also Sam Smith who didn't inspire the same negativity as some of their older ballads, but not a lot of high votes either. The follow-up, on the other hand, is far ahead.

Wow, incredible stats for John Legend there, -5s across the board!

Ā

Average-wise, that score was easily the worst of the last 2 years, with -3.92 compared to -3.54 for 'No Guidance' at its worst, and -3.55 for 'Perfect' in the first week of 2018. And deservedly so! It was years before I joined the site but I remember being so frustrated at that denying Muse's Neutron Star Collision (Love Is Forever) a place in the top ten!

I remember that '18HUNNA' took a couple of weeks to properly click with me so I guess I'm not surprised that I didn't contribute to it positively in its one week in the top 10 but yeah, definitely deserved much better in retrospect, Headie One went on to be one of the most consistently good UK rap acts of 2019 for me. Made up for it with 'Audacity' I guess! Hooray for being the biggest fan of 'Disaster' and 'Fashion Week' at least to back up my 'UK rap hits defender' status x 'Ransom' is another song that had been and gone in my personal chart before it hit the top 10 in the UK but I see in this case I did manage to be in the top 3 fans anyway :magic: That John Legend cover of 'Happy Xmas (War Is Over)' was really painful to listen to (and I actually normally like John Legend...), I pray we don't end up seeing a repeat of Amazon smuggling such pointless garbage into the charts this Christmas.

Ā

A distinct 'meh' to most of the other songs in these two sections ('Dancing With A Stranger' is quite good tho).

Ā

And deservedly so! It was years before I joined the site but I remember being so frustrated at that denying Muse's Neutron Star Collision (Love Is Forever) a place in the top ten!

Ā

Wow, that's a repressed memory! :drama: ('Leeds, Leeds, Leeds' was kind of fun tho lol)

Ā

~

Ā

By the way: my brain is finding it a little hard to understand what exactly you mean by 'total weekly points per voters'? The rankings for that statistic seem to be only very subtly different to the main rankings and I can't figure out where those numbers are coming from. Am I just dumb ~

(edit: is it meant to be the average value of the average score the song achieved in each week? I guess meaning that it corrects slightly for the differing number of voters per week?)

(edit2: I get it now following jimwatts' post, I am just dumb :magic:)

^ It's the sum of the song's average scores from each week. Rush explains it (better than I could) in the first post after the OP of the 2018 Reshuffle EOY (link in this thread's OP). On this metric, I Don't Care finishes bottom with -22.24
  • Author

Yep, correct. Admittedly though, the number of voters was consistent enough in 2019 that the difference is very minor throughout, so perhaps I could've done without them - I'm only including them because I'm following the same format as last year, where there was enough variance that I found them useful (for example 'All The Stars' being #11 by points but #4 by points per voters - though that can also be called into question, as the amount of voters in the catchup weeks it landed in were low enough that it may have just been inflated by luck).

Ā

They're also useful in the archives where significant variance exists over time, for example:

Ā

'On The Floor': average vote of +2.38, charted 8 weeks - but those weeks averaged only 14 voters each, so it got only 271 points

'Nobody To Love': average vote of +1.23, charted 6 weeks - and those weeks averaged 38 voters each, so it got 280 points (more than 'On The Floor' despite having half the average, and charting less weeks)

Ā

'Total weekly Points Per Voters' adjusts their totals to +19.16 and +7.38 respectively - from ranking #30 and #29 of ~2009-2014 by points, to ranking #11 and #63 by points per voters.

Edited by Rush

It feels wrong that I'm not in the top 3 voters for either Options or Disaster seeming that I'm into the top 20 in my EOY chart and they are both yet to come. They're both just unlucky they were in the top 10 at the same time as Ariana because they both would have been my '+5' in literally any of the other weeks of the year. :(

5gcWKJM.png

Talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, show stopping, spectacular, never the same, totally unique etc!

Ā

Great start *.* Shame to see Wow. (?!), Keisha & Becky (omg the Rush thing), Options, Taste, Ransom (in particular! :( ), ROXANNE, Fashion Week, Dancing with a Stranger & 18HUNNA so low or at least among company like Rewrite the Stars and Memories :P I'm very appreciative of the stats (as always!) exposing me as a priority Just You and I/Beautiful People/Take Me Back to London/Bruises (*.*) hater. I think I've warmed to Outnumbered now though so that's a shame I guess :P

Ā

Edit: did not expect the image to reappear so huge but I'm happy to re-expose it to everyone

Stormzy's current UK #1 'Own It' is his first non-feature to appear, though the upcoming 'Lessons' (but not 'Audacity' or the other 2 proper singles) has a worse average.

'Strike A Pose' had an impressively long climb, reaching the top 10 in its 13th week of charting, possibly helped by Aitch leapfrogging it with his own solo hit. The title may have nothing to do with Madonna, but I think it spent longer in the top 40 than every Madonna song ever except '4 Minutes'. By average, it's Aitch's most popular top 10 hit, and definitely one of the better-rated UK rap hits of 2019.

The massive long-term success of 'SICKO MODE', probably one of the defining hip hop songs of the decade, only barely registered with reshuffle through a lucky top 10 debut, but it provided an easy platform for 'HIGHEST IN THE ROOM', his first (non-feature) new release since, to debut as high as #2 in the UK. I was surprised it didn't fare better here as I thought it would have wider appeal than most trap entries, although, despite my +5s, I don't think it's as great as the similarly-styled 'STARGAZING', let alone 'SICKO MODE', which did get a better placing and average when it charted.

'ZEZE' smashed out the #10s in its original 2018 run and it seemed like it was finished, but it got a surprise re-entry in the first week of 2019, by virtue of being one of the songs not yet on ACR in the transition week before the resets applied (like 'Lose You To Love Me' and 'This Is Real' this year). Due to being accompanied by 'Rewrite The Stars', it actually managed to hit #9 (by 4 points), and also received a +5 from someone other than me for the first time.

Khalid's only first-artist-credited top 10 hit so far is 'Talk', with sometimes-credited production from Disclosure. A shame because it's among his most boring singles to me (my favourite outside of features/collabs is 'Saved' from 2017, and from his more recent ones I really like 'Up All Night'). Few voters had high interest in it either.

Very true! Unless you count Madonna's 3 separate releases of Holiday which spent 21 weeks in the Top 40 combined (the same as 4 Minutes and one more than Strike A Pose).

For 3 weeks in a row in January/February, the #10 was a one-weeker that scored exactly -61 points; those 3 songs appear together here, with thankfully differing amounts of +5s to not require a deeper tiebreaker. Coincidentally I'm the only person who's a top voter for all 3, and I particularly love 'MIDDLE CHILD', which managed to coincide quality and timing enough to become easily his biggest chart hit, though it's far from having outsold his slow-burning classic 'No Role Modelz'.

Following 2 collabs on The Weeknd's 2018 EP, Gesaffelstein flipped around the credit roles with his own single 'Lost In The Fire', seemingly taking on the job of building upon the sound of 'Starboy' since The Weeknd wasn't really doing it himself (apart from 'Pray For Me', and now 'Blinding Lights'). Yet, it plummeted off the charts so fast that it already feels forgotten, likely in part due to the unfortunate tone-deaf lyrics, and the album did nothing despite a few more half-notable collabs (HAIM, Pharrell) and being, I thought, pretty good. (And no, there's not an issue with the image; the cover art is literally a black square )

Before 'Keisha & Becky', Russ( splash/MB) got 'Gun Lean' into the top 10, also helped by a remix being released that week. I think it was the first drill top 10 hit apart from 'Man's Not Hot' (if that counts). Despite being about a dance move, it doesn't seem like it was a big thing on TikTok. At the other end of the year, YouTuber/rapper KSI, who made the top 40 once back in 2015, managed to get 2 big features on board for a single released in tandem with his boxing match with Logan Paul (no idea of the backstory of that). It matched Chris Brown's 'New Flame' as Rick Ross' highest charter, which definitely deserves to be a trivia question.

And to have one song that isn't a one-week #10, there is 'Crown', with a mid-range run roughly mirroring its chart success.

LadBaby had a better reshuffle reception the second time around - both songs scored precisely -46 points, but 'I Love Sausage Rolls' did so with more voters, so it had a much better average (-1.77 vs. -2.56), and it ends up 3 places higher on the EOY than 'We Built This City' last year. 61% of its votes were either +5 or -5 and only 8% were between +2 and -2 (inclusive), which in both cases is the most/least of any song in 2019, either in total or in a single week.

'needy' feels to me like a song that only charted because of being early in the album tracklist, but it's still the 2nd most played non-single on the album on Spotify ('NASA' is a little ahead), so maybe it's warranted. Still, I would much sooner choose 'bloodline' or 'bad idea' to have charted over this very forgettable song, and it's easily Ariana's worst reshuffle performance within the last 2 years, with only 'Wow.' keeping it above #10.

Stormzy's 'Lessons' has the feat of being the only song in 2019 to never receive either a +5 or -5.

I completely forgot that 'Walk Me Home' made the UK top 10 until I was compiling this. It did only peak at #22 on the streaming chart, but even then, it feels hard to believe in 'retrospect' that it actually made it onto playlists teenagers would listen to, because it's the living embodiment of Hot AC, and when it came out it really sounded like a soundtrack single to me (like the follow-up to 'Just Like Fire'), not a proper serious lead single. I grew to like it but it goes without saying that P!nk has countless far better songs.

'Without Me' fell out of the top 10 in December 2018 due to ACR, and unlike 'Someone You Loved' & co. this year, it didn't manage to get a reset, but it still returned to #10 for 2 weeks while on ACR. It placed in slight positive points at #43 on the 2018 EOY, but degraded over time and ends up in negatives for 2019, and a slight negative total overall if you combined them. Ironically I was glad it re-entered because it took a while to grow on me, though I prefer

. Then she completely blew it out of the water with her masterpiece 'Nightmare', which unfortunately the album sounds nothing like.
Surprised I'm the highest voter for Strike a Pose *.* Sad to see it, MIDDLE CHILD, Lost in the Fire, needy & Without Me (!) fall before Walk Me Home but interesting to see how the latter three rank amongst fellow 1-2 week reshuffle hits.
