Unfortunately, I agree with most of you. The vocal take genuinely sounds unmastered and the entire thing sounds like it was ripped in low-quality from some website in 2007. Beyond that, the song itself isn't particularly great. A misstep.

I appreciate that Let's Be Friends is far from being a Carly masterpiece, but I'm pretty surprised by the overly negative reception to it here. Can people expand on what specifically it is about it that is 'so bad' (if it's not just about the mixing)? To my ears it's cute/catchy/uncomplicated, and that's enough for a random release that doesn't appear to be attached to a studio album.

Pitchfork echoes my thoughts on the song: https://pitchfork.com/reviews/tracks/carly-...ets-be-friends/ "Detailed like a brightly colored comic strip, “Let’s Be Friends” doesn’t reach the potent highs of her other work, but as an upbeat one-off that takes pleasure in excising dirtbags from your life, it nails its specific mood. Carly is virtually peerless in finding a silver lining in heartbreak and adds a wry sneer with a light touch to her catalog."

I'm still wondering if there's an odd problem with the song quality on Spotify (I've heard it on there and there is certainly a muffled quality to it). I've listened a fair few times on Tidal, on my loudspeakers, and it sounds normal/clear. Maybe that helps my view of it.

I read your comments before I listened to the song for the first time and it's not as bad as I had expected. I just hope her next material will be good again.
