Yes the decline happened a few weeks into the lockdown, not immediately as Dua and 5SOS proved, with the fact Amazon and HMV have exclusive vinyl and the recent signed CDs will lessen the potential lost sales impact as people have already ordered online (2 of my friends picked up the signed CD who were planning to stream to see if they liked it to buy it).

Let's hope all stores can re open on 2nd Dec and get Xmas sales still.

Problem is I have a horrid feeling they won't be able too...

Lick down eyyyy

Imagine the day before you release your long awaited album your main market goes into lockdown.

Oh Kylie!

I do feel a lot more sorry and worried for the millions of people who may lose their job because of another lockdown, then for the album release of a popstar. Ofcourse I want her to do very well, and get a #1, but it means nothing when you put things in perspective. Kylie will be alright, even when she doesn't sell a single album from now onwards, so while I do feel the worry fans have, it also feels a bit out of place.

I suspect the lockdown will go on longer than 4 weeks. Last time in spring, we were in lockdown for about 8-9 weeks and cases are now higher although testing has increased. If this happens, it will have a devastating impact on the music industry Q4 sales. I just hope people continue to buy albums online and these sales are included in the sales figures.

Yup. Hopefully people will flock to Amazon to buy CDs for Xmas.

I hope Kylie and BMG continue to sell signed stuff this week or from Friday.

I also hope that Disco gets into supermarkets.

How much do people think disco will sell in first week now? I reckon 35-40k but after first week her sales will drop quickly during lockdown. I can’t see disco selling as well as golden first week sadly. She will lose a lot of casual fan sales.

Well it is Q4 though.....

People will be sat at home buying Xmas gifts....

She has some big promo slots coming up, bigger than Golden ....

If she can get in supermarkets would be good.

If shops reopen on 2nd she will be ok but like you said earleir, it's unlikely...

Has she got any more formats? We know the deluxe vinyl is coming later in November so that will sell well.....

Signed stuff sells well.

Will they have to do the 2 for £15 offers etc in HMV before Xmas rather than in sales...

Its possible the Infinite Disco Livestream could be shown on TV at some point? Or attached to an album reissue.

She has good promo for release week and then on Friday 13th she already had children in Need which will help with longevity into week two and avoid a huge drop.

There are lots and lots of albums coming out in November so anything staying in top 40/75 would be good up to Xmas.

But agree casual fans sales will be impacted.

Totally this - if I lose my job then she can release whatever formats, special editions and concerts she likes because there will be no money from people like me to buy them. At the end of the day Kylie will be fine if she enters at #1 or #51 - of course I want nothing more than for her to get #1 but there are slightly more pressing issues at the moment.

But we are talking of a pop album of escapism. This is a Kylie Disco thread. I am worried about Covid-19 too and am not complaining that shops are shut, I am just starting it will hit sales.

Gosh. Next we will be discussing political views in here.

We are just discussing the album and its sales, promo, strategies. I am not worried where Kylie charts as in its a matter of life or death. It's just chit chat to pass time and hear people's takes.

People need other things to discuss and this is for Disco

I think since the arrival of covid people are more cautious with money and really only spending on things they really want. For people they can stream the album for essentially free if they are paying a monthly subscription so I can understand why someone might opt to save money on buying the actual cd for now.

Yes, music is one of a few things we can really enjoy right now and I'm loving having kylie back but unlike many of us kylie has no financial worries and will be fine whether disco succeeds or not.

It’s also a forum where people respond to one another - I was responding to a comment.

Me too.

Me too.

Absolutely but nobody is complaining about that are they - your response to something which generated 1 post and 1 response was OTT.

Great news for Kylie and other established artists are sure to benefit too.

Here's the article for those who have ad block:

The launch on Friday of Disco, Minogue’s 15th studio album, is a media moment because it points the way to a potential pathway for UK commercial radio, which has taken a financial battering from the pandemic.

Bauer Radio, which owns a stable of well-known brands including Kiss, Absolute and Jazz FM, is partnering with Minogue to promote the Australian singer’s album across its portfolio. By happy coincidence, one of its tracks is called “Magic”, the name of one of Bauer’s biggest brands.

This approach, which could become a new model for album launches, has been planned by Ben Cooper, the man who transformed BBC Radio 1 for the millennial generation by dropping Chris Moyles, revamping the line-up of presenters and making it the world’s biggest radio station on YouTube.

Minogue will be offered opportunities on stations including Magic and Greatest Hits Radio. “If we had as much time as possible I would look to get Kylie across the whole portfolio,” says Cooper. “There’s no reason why she couldn’t do interviews with Simon Mayo on [classical station]Scala, talking about the use of classical strings in disco songs, or talking to Jordan and Perri on Kiss about being an icon.”

I am now wondering if she will be on Magic on Friday instead of Radio 2?

Can she be on both?

Just a bit worried she isn't mentioned on Zoe Ball 6/11 schedule. But her two singles have premiered on radio 2 so I am sure she must have the slot on there?
