It was a really close finish for 2nd place with 'Torn' having a total of 396 points and this song 396.5. Both of them are from 1997. Last year,Richard Ashcroft was re-instated as the sole writer of the song after a long running dispute with the manager of the Rolling Stones. The song samples Andrew Loog Oldham's orchestral cover version of the Stones' song 'The Last Time'.

And so Buzzjack's favourite number 2 single is this classic from 1985. It finished with a total score of 405.5. The song was recorded several times,finally becoming a hit in the UK and the USA after an expensive video was made for it. The iconic video won six awards at the 1986 MTV Video Music Awards.

'Take On Me' is a fabulous winner! I had forgotten what songs were in the running by this point but I'm not too surprised at that taking the top spot. Although it managing to do it by quite a big margin even with a -1...!

 

'Bitter Sweet Symphony' also a deserved song to be so high up and again a little surprising it wasn't dragged down like certain other songs of a similar style / era!

I would have predicted Torn to win on Buzzjack but very glad it’s a-ha. Take On Me is an absolute classic :wub:

Oh wow, given how much I was complaining earlier, those results are EXCELLENT. That whole top 5 are wonderful, One More Time and Bittersweet Symphony are all time favourites of mine, and Take on Me is certainly one of the most iconic number 2s ever so near perfect winner :wub:

Absolutely love 'Torn', one of my favourite number twos ever!

 

'Bittersweet Symphony' finishing that high is a bit, well, bittersweet for me - it's great to see The Verve so high but I always thought the song was a bit over-rated, unlike 'The Drugs Don't Work' which is legit one of my absolute favourite songs of all time :wub:

A well deserving winner in A-ha and wonderful to see 'Torn', 'Murder On The Dancefloor' and 'One More Time' in the top 10! A shame for the Verve to end up at number 2 on a number 2s poll!
