Speed of Sound is one of the worst Coldplay songs ever,

after a string of 5 amazing singles (Yellow-Trouble-In my Place-The scientist-Clocks) and 2 incredible albums

Chris Martin decided he wanted to be Bono and ruined everything :/

88. Don McLean - American Pie

Average score - 6.071

Stopped by : Chicory Tip - Son Of My Father, Nilsson - Without You

Top scores : 11 - Jamie Barkley, 10 - Dobbo,Dexton,West

Low scores : 0 - Jester,Mark223, 0.5 - Jason,jszmiles

With a length of eight and a half minutes, this song started on the A side of the single and finished on the B side. Don McLean went on to have two more top 30 hits, both of which reached no.1. A re-issue of 'American Pie' also got to no.12 in 1991 while a shorter version of the song was a no.1 single for Madonna in 2000.

Oh yes! 2 songs I really hate being eliminated in a row.

EDIT: American Pie was number 2 in 1972. So, I can't understand why this video was released in 1989. According to Polyhex, it wasn't even top 100 in 1989. Also couln't find this #12 peak in 1991 doing a search on Polyhex.

No video was made for the song when it was released so I'm guessing someone decided to make a video for it in 1989 to show on MTV. I'm not sure if that video is made up of clips from a movie or if it was specially made but the scenes in it seem to fit the lyrics very well. The wiki page for the song and my Guiness Book Of Hit Singles are both showing it as reaching no.12 in 1991.

I did a search using its tittle American Pie (whole field) and couldn't find a result in 1991 but discovered now that if you do a 'Any part of field' or 'Start of field' it appears that result in 1991. Also, doing a Don Mclean search it really appears at #12 in 1991. Sorry.

This was the first song written by the group after the disappearance of Richey Edwards. It was one of four top 10 hits from their album 'Everything Must Go'.

A Design for Life is a 10/10 song

Seriously I think childish voting like this guy that gave everything a 0 shouldn't be allowed, seriously

These results are so disappointing! Really hoped the Manics could do better but after seeing how early Your Love Alone Is Not Enough dropped out I shouldn't be surprised at A Design For Life falling early too. Disappointing to see Speed of Sound, Hey Brother and American Pie out already as well.
Massively disappointed with the results so far. The first three songs out all scored 10s from me. Sad to see so much Britpop out already when that's probably my favourite era of music. Probably shouldn't have expected anything less from Buzzjack though!

My fave era too, I feel your annoyance.

84. The Beatles - Penny Lane/Strawberry Fields Forever

Average score - 6.153

Stopped by : Engelbert Humperdinck - Release Me

Top scores : 10 - marcinjaro,SamJudd,StoneDragon,M4NGO,Jade

Low scores : 0 - Nick F1,girlsaloudjunkie, 0.5 - jszmiles

Prior to this release, the Beatles had eleven consecutive no.1 singles stretching back four years to 1963. This one actually outsold 'Release Me' for three weeks but the chart rules at the time only counted sales of the best selling side of a double A side single. Penny Lane is located in the Mossley Hill suburb of Liverpool while Strawberry Field was a Salvation Army children's home.
