April 1, 20205 yr So happy for Mabel. 3 top ten hits from a debut album is great in this streaming age. Her and her label really know how to play the pop game.
April 1, 20205 yr Donating money to the NHS when it is about to face its biggest test it has ever faced, the bast*rds. Seriously some people need to get some perspective, number 1 or not them putting money into the NHS right now should be applauded. I wish people wouldn't let their bias cloud the bigger picture, any money going into the NHS right now is desperately needed to save lives. Then donate. Don't use the NHS as a tactic to bolster your sales and snag the #1 position on the chart.
April 1, 20205 yr as I said above it's about 1k, but Joseph's also right that it'll likely get overtaken by the two songs directly below it. Ah, now that's frustrating
April 1, 20205 yr Yes Dua :cheer: I actually was worried that she'll have trouble catching up with 5SOS...9k is a huge gap but she comfortably did just that. I think all those reviews and word of mouth (and Jess Glyne :kink:) is helping album streaming numbers!!!
April 1, 20205 yr Then donate. Don't use the NHS as a tactic to bolster your sales and snag the #1 position on the chart. But they were doing this before the album was released and they are doing it worldwide - they haven’t even promoted the fact they are donating to the NHS, it’s literally listed halfway down the album order page. I’m happy that my purchases which I would have bought anyway will now support the NHS - given their fan base I doubt anyone has parted money on the album due to the NHS donation, I’ve literally not seen it mentioned anywhere else apart from the salty Dua stans here
April 1, 20205 yr Then donate. Don't use the NHS as a tactic to bolster your sales and snag the #1 position on the chart. To be fair, they're going to be using these same tactics whether money went to the NHS or not. Might as well send some money to a good cause in a tricky situation. I don't really see the issue about it, the NHS will be getting more funds as a result and that's never a bad thing, especially during a pandemic.
April 1, 20205 yr Dua would have sold nowhere near 50k. Over 30k perhaps but I don't see where ~25k more copies would come from even in normal circumstances. Other than that, I do agree that it's wrong to say Dua is underperforming. Her debut only sold 16k and this looks like it'll debut a good 10k higher which is great all things considered. I think FN will open with 28k-29k and under "normal" circumstances would probably have done 35k-37k. But not 50k that's too ambitious.

I am not a Dua Lipa stan, I just think it's morally gross to be using the pandemic as a sales tactic here. But hey, if you're comfortable with it I guess that's all that matters.

April 1, 20205 yr I think Little Mix will debut at #8 on the charts on Friday, which would be a great result for them with all things considered.

If the money from their album saves 1 life by helping the NHS that is more important than any chart position. Just get a bit of perspective for God sake.

That's a self made mind trap - people thinking they must donate to charities - even though if politicians did everything right there wouldn't actually be a need for that at all. Or not to the extent it's happening nowadays. That is if we're digging deeper. Like Lovett said, just donate yourself instead of preaching about how this cash out stunt should be applauded.
April 1, 20205 yr What is morally gross is you thinking the charts are more important than saving people's lives. What a Trump thing to do. Jump to outrageous conclusions and completely disregard 80% of the comments.

April 1, 20205 yr Get your 20 CD bundle + a lock of hair and a stool sample from a random 5SOS member for 3.99 + shipping!!!1 Underrated post.

Why are people missing the point, you are getting your product (the album) and a portion goes to the NHS. Let's say 1 pound for each album goes to the NHS (I'm using that figure as it is nice and round) and the album is £7 if they didn't donate the pound to the NHS and you wanted the album and to donate a pound that would be 8 pound out your pocket not 7. You are essentially donating a pound of the labels profits to the NHS and getting the CD. It is absolutely amazing people cant see that or don't want to see it.

Having an opposing point of view ≠ missing the point.

But their intent was for chart purposes. It's like 'If you want us to donate to NHS and save lives then you better buy our CD's and cassettes'

Everyone understands how percentages work. The timing to use this tactic is shady as hell. Especially as they are not disclosing what exact percentage will be donated. I doubt it's more than 5% in all honesty.
