This has got me back into Wonderwall. I went off this song after hearing a terrible drunken version of this at a karaoke night over 20 years ago..

Well I’m glad the thread has helped erase that memory :P

5. The Masterplan

Please brother let it be

All hail the best B-side ever. I am still gobsmacked that this was not a main single, or on a studio album. One of the B-Sides of Wonderwall (itself one of THE songs of the 90s) goes to show what a high point Oasis were on at this point in their career. Even Noel Gallagher cannot believe that this was now only a B-Side!

Over time this has become my favourite Oasis song just ahead of Champagne Supernova, it's truly brilliant and I loved the video they made for it. Amazing that this, Round Are Way and Swamp Song were all b-sides to Wonderwall, what a great collection of songs.

2. Slide Away

Hold me down, all the world's asleep, Need you now, you knocked me off my feet

My favourite song from Definitely Maybe, I think I truly fell in love with Slide Away while away for a Uni field trip in Norfolk back in 1996. Very happy times!

1. Cast No Shadow

As they took his soul they stole his pride

I think Cast No Shadow has been my favourite Oasis song since pretty much October/November 1995 when I first heard it. I didn't know until after 1997 that the song was dedicated to Richard Ashcroft of the Verve, and it is so fitting. An utterly beautiful ballad.

(What's The Story) Morning Glory? wins out in the end!

Great winner! I don't actually know what my favourite would be but Cast No Shadow would definitely be up there
woh! at that 4-some of Dont Look Back, Wonderwall, Live Forever and Whatever..... :o My top 4 tracks plus Idle. The Masterplan and Champagne Supernova are fab though, but Hey Now is not one I recall at all (and I bought the album that year!), it just didn't sink into my brain cells at all :o

Hey Now for me is the worst track on the album. Sorry Jester but just my opinion.

Some great less obvious choices of favourites here, Cast No Shadow's a great choice of number 1, one of my favourite non singles  Champagne Supernova is also iconic, doesn't seem right that that wasn't a single here!
I really need to dig out Morning Glory then - I bought the CD in Florida and it's in a separate CD filing rack of records I bought abroad, and which I tend not to notice. I almost certainly haven't played it since the 90's oops! Thanks for the push Jester :)

was just reading this about Cast No Shadow the other day:

I don’t believe people can go into a studio and record B-sides. It’s either a good song or a bad song. And I never intend to write a bad song! The only time I’ve really sat down to write a B-side I wrote “Cast No Shadow”, which was supposed to be a B-side but it ended up really good. There’s a bit at the end of “Cast No Shadow” when someone says down the mic really quietly, ‘Tha’ll do for a B-side’. So we had to take that out when it came to put it on the album.

Haven't heard this no1 much, thanks for giving me the incentive to have another listen!
