  • To me, it's kinda like let's choose the worst picture and see if our brand can just sell on its own (apparently, not!). It's like how??? Did they not see the picture?? None of them looked any good, Em

  • Omg how much i love how Victoria and Emma looked on Holler vídeo and performances! They were HOT !!

FOREVER UK charts

Vinyl album chart - #22

Sales album chart - #47

Physical album chart - #45

Scottish album chart - #92

Estimated at roughly 500 copies without counting streaming units. Only sales info so far is K-pop Demon Hunters did 382 vinyl sales to be #37 on the vinyl album chart.

For a release that was essentially a new variant of a 5 year-old vinyl with no new songs, no other accompanying CD, cassette, digital release or variant, and got literally 0 promo, it did well I think!!!

If the label had done more and released a picture disc, CD and download - with even just a couple of bonus tracks on it - then perhaps it could have charted! It usually takes about 1300 sales to make the Top 200.

do we remember how it charted in 2020 for the 20th anniversary?

EDIT: Just found out:

#15 Vinyl charts,

#78 on physical charts

#66 on download charts

#73 on Album Sales Charts

#83 on Scottish Charts

#77 on the Album Charts

So, really not that bad considering it all actually! Could have done wonders with a better release for sure!

I just got around to watching this, and it's good!

I like these retrospective videos that examine the era from several angles. Too often, Forever's commercial failure gets blamed firstly on the change in musical direction...and secondly, on the absence of Geri. This video hits those angles...but it also takes on what is (to me) the most important factor; the group's lack of support for the project. The group's reinvention was a gamble...so if there was any chance of pulling it off, it was going to take the group's full commitment. And...

Anyway. This video's honest about it. And I also liked how it used the physical releases. A few things showed up in there I hadn't seen before. They were mostly press materials/promotional items...but cool to see anything with the FOREVER logo, really, since the era was so neglected.

That was the main issue with Forever and I agree. People often blame it on the r-n-b flavour of the album and how bad the press around it was (and it was, to be fair to them) but the change of image and sound really needed them to back it up and they didn't.

We know by the girls themselves (and Mel C's own admission) that she said she wasn't going to be promoting the album as much. That definitely took a toll. Of course, she had her health reasons but she was also very clearly over the band. Her lack of 'availability' and attitude towards both the band and the album really cemented how they were over-over, because the others also took the time to do their solo projects since Mel C's demands meant they were not going to be so busy anymore with the group. So Emma, Victoria and Mel B took on solo projects full-on as well. HELL, by the time Holler was released, Emma was still doing TV presenting and already talking about her album being out in Spring 2001, Mel B was releasing and promoting her solo album during Forever's campaign, and Victoria was busy all summer with Out of Your Mind and also working on her own album. Mel C did a solo show at WEMBLEY ARENA, her biggest ever, the night before the Forever launch party...

A mess... For a group that made their name about being a close unit and friends to the end, they showed up really not united. The very promo of the album was done in pairs of two, or even one, even when they were in the same building. How crazy is that?....

Being hated by the press and public isn't new for them. They had fought against that and won many times since Fuller was fired and Geri leaving, consistently getting #1s, selling out tours, winning the Outstanding Brit Award... They could have turned it around if they really focused.

The 25th anniversary vinyl came today and it is literally the same vinyl package from 20th anniversary design just with the red and black marble vinyl inside and the new postcards...

What a wasted opportunity... I bought it out of pity/collection purposes and now I feel somewhat scammed lol

Happy anniversary to Goodbye, my favourite of the Christmas singles and their second best ballad ❤️

Saturday night reflection: How amazing the pop version of Right Back At Ya is, and what a shame they decided to leave it in a drawer :( There’s just no comparison — the pop version is a HIT.

and the original version would have fitted much better in the album too! What a shame...

I often play it like this:

  1. Right Back At Ya (Pop)

  2. Holler

  3. Tell Me Why

  4. Let Love Lead The Way

  5. Get Down With Me

  6. Wasting My Time

  7. Goodbye

  8. WOMAN (live - cos we dont have another version!!)

  9. Weekend Love

  10. Time Goes By (though I pretend it is a piano-led ballad lol)

  11. If You Wanna Have Some Fun

  12. Oxygen

Mine would be:

1) Right Back At Ya (Pop Version)

2) Give U What U Want

3) A Day In Your Life

4) Pain Proof

5) W.O.M.A.N.

6) Weekend Love

7) Holler

8) Tell Me Why

9) Get Down With Me

10) If You Wanna Have Some Fun

11) Oxygen

12) Goodbye

Haha I consider A Day In The Life & Let Love Lead The Way as the same song (I mean the meaning behind of them is practically the same) so I went with A Day In In The Life as it’s more soulful to me.

Wasting My Time - I love it actually but it’s just too similar sound to Get Down With Me and it didn’t have Mel B’s vocals so I would keep it as a B-side instead (like Baby Come Round).

Pain Proof and Give U What U Want - well back in 1999, this would fit right in the Pop world at the time and still their spice sound and lyrically they were better then what they girls worked with Rodney so I would keep them in.
