Anastacia released her self titled third album on March 29th 2004. It was have first release after being diagnosed with breast cancer in January 2003 and this period of her life was the inspiration for this album. Proof that some good can come out of the worst situations this album became her biggest sell and first no.1 album selling well over a million copies in the UK. It was preceded by a Monster hit in the form of Left Outside Alone, her biggest single, which peaked at no.3 and spent 11 weeks in the top 10. She also got a second top 10 single in the form of the no.4 Sick & Tired.

I was obsessed with this album in Summer 2004. The brilliant Sprock (soul, pop, rock) sound was really refreshing following a 2003 of mainly rnb or dance tracks and this was just bang on what I was into. This album is said to have inspired albums from Pink and Kelly Clarkson that came later. Anastacia has one of the most unique voices in pop and this album contains some of my favourite songs with highlights being Left Outside Alone, Welcome To My Truth and Rearview. She was really on top of he game here, it’s such a shame what happened afterwards and she’s never recovered from her decline in success.

The singles:

Leave me Alone (I'm Lonely) and Dear Mr President remain THOSE songs. I still listen to them quit frequently.

Controversial opinion here. I never liked this album very much oops

Her best album, for sure.

Stupid Girls feel like such an anomaly though. Like, sometimes there are songs and you think "I don't rate it much but I get why it's the lead single" but I just never got that with SG and I don't think it fits on the album. Has she stopped performing this btw? I can't imagine 2020 P!nk approves of this song nowadays aha.

But yeah every song otherwise is brill and for sure one of my fave albums of all time.

I think that Pink would stand by the principles of the song but I don’t think she’d record anything like it anymore.

I absolutely loved the track and still do tbh.

I can see why she went with it as a lead because it’s was a bit like Eminem’s leads used to be in terms of taking the piss. Cuz I Can would probably have been better though as an ‘I’m back!’ moment.

One of my 00's fave album.

It was crafted to perfection and Sick And Tired remains best Anastacia song

Thanks for bringing this up <3

The first 3 singles are literal perfection. Welcome To My Truth is ridiculously underrated!
She was still lying about her age at that point yes?

Yes, she was.

Thread has been merged guys so some of the comments might seem a bit all over the place above. I’m going to keep posting all my reviews in here and, of course, anyone else is welcome to post their own reviews themselves!

That Anastacia album is fantastic all the singles were utterly amazing Left outside alone I mean WHAT a comeback! Welcome to my truth is just sensational too!

lol I didn't know the age thing lol

Someone enlighten me!!!

At the start of her career she said she was 5 years younger than she was. I think she was too old to be on some show she did so she lied and tried to keep it up. She revealed the truth shortly before her 40th birthday and then that’s when everything went wrong for her :(

Well I think part of Anastacia’s problem was following a four year gap with Heavy Rotation. I love it, but no one was asking for it. Also I think her Botox obsession weirded people out.

Just been listening to some of these songs again, what an ALBUM.

Yeah, I think moving from Epic to Mercury also did nothing for her. I don't think it had anything to do with her finally revealing that she had lied about her age - if anything, her greatest hits sort of performed disappointingly in an era where greatest hits were big sellers. It sort of signalled that interest was waning tbh and she needed to do something to recapture the public's attention and Heavy Rotation just wasn't it.
