Back to Black is the second and final studio album by English singer and songwriter Amy Winehouse, released on 27 October 2006 by Island Records. Winehouse predominantly based the album on her tumultuous relationship with then-ex-boyfriend and future husband Blake Fielder-Civil, who temporarily left her to pursue his previous ex-girlfriend. Their short-lived separation spurred her to create an album that explores themes of guilt, grief, infidelity and heartbreak in a relationship.

Hands down one of the most influential albums of our time!!!

If it wasn't for Amy's sound in Back To Black I don't think there would have been Duffy, Adele, Florence etc. etc.

The best pop album of the 21st century released on my 12th birthday *.*

Back To Black is such a rich tapestry of both catchy and memorable pop music and devastatingly emotional poetry of the lyrics (especially knowing what would happen to her afterwards). Brava!

I couldn’t stand Amy Winehouse initially but she quickly won me over!

Michael please do a review if you want to! I’ll be doing another shortly!

Maroon 5's Songs About Jane is by far their best piece of work. Harder To Breathe, This Love and She Will Be Loved was a flawless run of singles. It was great to see M5 revive their commercial success in 2011 but their music has never met the quality of their debut for me.

Back To Black... what an album! There is not a single track that I skip. All of the singles are incredible but also 'Me and Mr Jones' and 'Wake Up Alone' deserve recognition. I agree with the comment on how she basically paved the way for Adele, Duffy and other artists. Even girl groups like GA and SB releasing The Promise and Girls respectively was indirectly because of BTB's success.

I never knew the age lie with Anastacia. :o Is that really why her career went to s***?

Amazing thread btw! I look forward to seeing what's to come.

Back To Black is brilliant and the title track is my favourite. Love the haunting B&W video.

Back To Black is classic, and Life For Rent and Ta Dah are both fab. Both had very underperforming brilliant follow-ups to a monster hit. Ta dah especially had some of the best things Scissor Sisters ever did on it, not least Land Of A Thousand Words, I Can't Decide, and others.

best tracks for me

1 You know Im no good

2 Love is a losing game

A very good time to revisit this album (and Frank) with the release of the Black To Black biopic this week. Singles aside, Wake Up Alone has always been the standout track for me.

Valerie is now Top 40 on Spotify and Back To Black has re-entered at #122.

Will need to check out the album which I've never done in full.

My ranking of the singles..

Back to Black (hard to believe this only peaked at #25 originally and spent only a few weeks top 40!)

Tears Dry On Their Own

Love Is a Losing Game

You Know I'm No Good

Rehab (was never huge on this but of course a relatable track for people nonetheless. does sound greater now than then for me though).

Back to Black (the single) was criminally underrated at the time. Glad it achieved a top 10 peak in the end.
