Posted April 13, 20205 yr https://ibb.co/5G0ZqSV So today we go with Whatever People Say I Am That’s What I’m Not by Arctic Monkeys! Their debut album was released on January 23rd 2006 and quickly became the fastest selling debut album of all time (up to that point.) The Sheffield band had become a bit of a cult phenomenon and when they released their debut single I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor in October the 2005 it stormed straight to no.1 and dethroned Sugababes and blocked McFly in an unprecedented move. What a chart moment that was! The album also house no.1 When The Sun Goes Down and non charting single View From The Afternoon (was released as an EP so ineligible to chart) and the hit single that never was, Mardy Bum. I just loved this era, even though I think their second album was better. Arctic Monkeys at the time definitely felt like the Oasis moment of the 00s. I was in my first year of sixth form and this was played all the time on our common room at break and lunch and when ever I hear Fake Tales Of San Francisco kick in it takes me right back to that time. Even getting the vinyl last year took be back because the artwork is so ‘night out in Northern Britain in the 00s’ literally every image being a version of something I remember from that time. I’m not sure when teenagers of the 10s got to be their equivalent but Arctic Monkeys often feel like the last of their kind. The singles: pK7egZaT3hs EqkBRVukQmE PeQAZsyucbQ Lp1fQ51YZMM
April 13, 20205 yr such a landmark album and an incredible moment in British pop culture! Of course the #1 singles are massive highs but the whole album is the band at their best!
