Stan culture originated in rap music, Gaga transferred the culture to pop music, both are of equal worth and weighting.

Lady Gaga did not transfer Stan culture to pop music. Before Lady Gaga existed, people like Madonna and especially Britney Spears had VERY obsessive fans. Even the likes of Kelly Clarkson and Leona Lewis and the various girl groups before her did. Certainly people like Kylie.

If you saw what Avril Lavigne stans were doing on YouTube back in 2007 and 2008... Or even Britney stans for that matter lol (LEAVE BRITNEY ALONE!!!).

I don't know why Lady Gaga keeps getting credited for things that happened before she existed? It's ridiculous.

Your post makes other good points though.

The lack of actual knowledge and understanding in this post is quite embarrassing. Travis Scott, a rapper, has got 2 recent #1s in the US by selling bundles and encouraging multi-buy purchases from his obsessive stans. Stan culture originated in rap music, Gaga transferred the culture to pop music, both are of equal worth and weighting.

The desperation you talk of is also most notable in rap music or R&B music (see Beyoncé's feature on Savage, Nicki appearing everywhere). But when pop stars do it, it is desperate? And if you had any ounce of knowledge on the background of this song, and the deep depression that it was borne out of from the two artists involved who have used the song to channel the pain and wash it away, you'd know it IS desperate: but desperate to recover and mend their minds, not desperate for success.

Music is subjective so your comments on "only listening to it because of curiosity or the names" shows just how small minded your outlook is. How sad.

Pop music will never be low brow, no matter how hard people try to make it.

Well said!! Shut that hater down.

actually something I read the other day, not even sure if it's possible

Drake has had something like 125 hits in the US that are collaborations,

either him as lead including a feature or him as featured

And Travis Scott's latest hit under his name was a solo song.

True but Gaga was influential when it came to naming fanbases. Before Monsters I don't think the likes of Army, Navy, Beyhive, Katy Cats, Lambs etc existed officially but correct me if I'm wrong. :kink:

Yeah I definitely get Eric's points but this was mainly what I was referring to. The shift to online stan culture that we see now on Twitter etc. Obviously stans have existed long before but there was a definite shift with the birth of the "monsters".

This article explains it really well and is worth a read in my opinion: https://www.vice.com/en_uk/article/pakq59/l...urce=reddit.com

I know it's not the main point being made, but I'd just like to say: Lambs pre-date Monsters by at least 10 years

That article is so worth reading!

I’ve watched so many live performances from before Gaga was famous, I have several dvd collections of artists from before her time too and not once have I ever seen or heard anyone name their fans anything other than “my incredible fans” until Gaga had her little monsters and that’s not just an opinion of mine I’d say it’s a borderline fact we were the fast fanbase with our own name

looks like KSI are big dropping on Apple, all tracks down at least 20 places, same for the 1975

Expected drops for KSI and 1975. KSI still has 3 songs top 20 though

Gaga and Ari hold at #2 with strong numbers still.
