Next up it's Why Did You Do That? which is one of the key pop-Ally songs. Firstly it's the song that she performs on Saturday Night Live while Jackson watches on and then it becomes the song that Jackson grows to show disdain for as it represents a departure from her earlier music. It's overtly pop, with many seeing it as a critique of pop music, but in the film Ally defends the song and so interpretation of it is left ambigious. In the film it represents the rise in Ally's career and Jackson's begins to falter, perhaps signifying the shift in what people want from their pop stars.
