10th place: The Righteous Brothers - Unchained Melody

UK Chart Run: 3-1-1-1-1-2-2-5-9-12-13-31-44-72 (14 weeks)

Thanks to everyone who voted in round one, it was a close run thing throughout but ultimately it was the year's biggest selling single, Unchained Melody, that has been eliminated first. The track belatedly found itself hitting number one after being used in the film Ghost and soundtracking 'pottery sessions' all over the UK that year. The song has never been a buzzjack favourite, probably tainted by the pretty awful cover versions by Robson & Jerome and Gareth Gates that also hit the top of the charts, it sort of feels like the track has been done to death and back.

Just one vote behind last time were both Elton John and EnglandNewOrder with Vanilla Ice also gaining a high percentage of the vote, it looks like round 2 could go any way...

Get voting! ^_^

'Unchained Melody' is so overdone now but I really like The Righteous Brothers' version :(

Going for Elton again!

Yeah the Righteous Brothers version is by far the best, I was surprised it was first out tbh!

Also gone for Elton again

The Righteous Brothers version is really good, granted it was a tough round, but I don't think that deserved to the the first out D:

World in Motion again~

What? That version of Unchained Melody is a true classic. The subsequent chart-topping versions just serve to emphasise how good the Righteous Brothers version is.

I agree! There will never be a version as good as The Righteous Brothers version - I'd go so far as to say the only good version.

Englandneworder. Sorry, but John Barnes rapping & footballers singing doesnt disguise that it is just a novelty record stuffed on top of a decent backing track. 3rd best football song ever. That's not much of a compliment..... :P

Shame about Unchained Melody out first. That's by far my favourite version of it, that falsetto at the end! *_* Didn't realise that was the highest selling song of the year I would have thought it was Sinead or Elton...

Still going for Elton.
