It is the UK's biggest radio station though by a comfortable margin and A list means you will chart on the airplay chart as it is that influential.

It is obviously nice for Mel but cant help feel she should have an album pre-order up to take advantage. In a few months a lot of artists holding back releases right now will be releasing and taking up the airplay and pre-orders especially radio 2 album acts.

Coronavirus has done her a favour of it being a quiet time right now for album selling radio 2 artists she really should be taking advantage of it. Steps, Sam Smith etc aren't going to be delaying their albums forever and will no doubt be eyeing those Q3/Q4 sales, airplay, promo spots.

I totally agree re should have had the album ready to go, she could easily have charted top 10 these last few weeks such a shame, but if it's not ready then it's not ready I guess.

I have a feeling Steps will delay their album until next year or maybe even later as they will rely in their tour for the main money.

She doesn't need it to be ready just up for pre-order, I remember when Claire pushed her album back a lot of people in the Feb when it was released had forgotten they even pre-ordered it. It just gets those casual sales she might be missing now done.
After falling to 100-something on Sunday (due to the weekend effect?), this has seemingly rebounded and is now again at #62 on iTunes.
Stan a bit iTunes GP :o I adore them both but it's weird that this is performing so much better longterm than 'Who I Am' on sales, I thought they received similar airplay? Not complaining at any exposure for Melanie though

Blame It on Me is continuing to climb on iTunes UK. It's at #42 right now. :cheer:

Cute and well deserved.

Her Spotify numbers are bad though. It's not getting a lot of attention there, and on Youtube it really has slown down since hitting 1million, so I am not sure it is that successful but it certainly deserves it!

The thing with iTunes is you have to remember that's like 25 sales a day being 50ish and millions a day will be hearing Blame it on me.

An uptick in streaming would be much more beneficial and is where she needs to make improvements.

On the other hand, Radio 2 airplay doesn't generally see much iTunes impact at all. The boost for Blame It On Me is way above what is usually expected, regardless of current sales levels! It's a positive sign for sure.
Well normally radio 2 airplay boosts album sales and she has got one up for pre-order. I feel it cant be stressed enough how much of a mistake it is to not have something up for pre-order now.

I agree with this completely, it's such a rookie error not to have a pre-order up.

I have seen a few cases where A-listing on Radio 2 has boosted songs into the iTunes Top 40, but it's definitely a reflection of how well the song's been received because it's not the norm.

I see 'Who I Am' was B-listed for three weeks and I only recall seeing it reach as far as something like #192 (could have got higher but that's what I noticed), so 'Blame It On Me' going Top 40, even bearing in mind it's receiving higher plays, is a really good sign!

There seems to be decent momentum building (for Mel C's standards) this year, which makes it all the more a shame that there isn't a pre-order for the album yet! Hopefully one can be put up soon and we can receive at least another single during that pre-order time. I do think she could be challenging for Top 10 if everything is timed right.

Sadly she keeps saying later this year so I get the impression she is going for a 4th quarter release... in which case she won't go top 10, so annoying it wasn't all ready to release off the back of Who I am with Blame it on me keeping it selling somewhat...
Fingers crossed, but there's bound to be a lot of competition as all those who have held off releasing will be releasing  If she can go top 20 I'll be happy, top 10 would be the dream

Up to #23 in the Radio Airplay chart. Surely her biggest radio hit since On the Horizon?

It is Melanie's most played song on Radio 2 (information dating back to 2006) https://www.last.fm/user/bbcradio2/library/...lanie+C/+tracks

(Side note but I had no idea that they were more supportive of Dear Life than Anymore. I also didn't realise that they snubbed I Know Him So Well)

Wow who knew Dear Life got that much support, such a dull song. At least Blame it on me has some energy to it.
