30k additional sales for the album was great when you consider the original wasnt a huge seller. I know they prob expected more but what we now know of dannii,s sales that was a good outcome for her.

The re-issue shifted 12k more copies than her ICONIC ‘Girl’ album has managed in total :drama:

Love and Kisses benefited from Dannii having a much higher profile during that period.

Girl was lost and overlooked which in theory is unusual, as it houses her biggest hit that received much exposure.

i struggle to see how kylie fans from the start dislike this but love her debut ?

I guess if you don't enjoy this sort of early 90s R&B/New Jack Swing/House vibe you won't enjoy most of this record. Personally I love that sort of sound and while the lyrics border on cringe at times it's not really worse than most teen pop albums of that era (yes, including Kylie). In a way I miss the way teenagers back then were allowed to be suitably cringey instead of being forced to be "old souls" a la Billie Eilish.

Yes teenagers were def allowed be more cringy back then, today its all about trying to stay popular and like what is popular, that applies to clothing and music for many of todays teenagers but not all. There was alot more innocense back then though in society as it was the days before the internet.

I dont remember too much hype about dannii back when love and kisses was released, there was loads of the dannii copying kylie and all that sort of stuff but i dont really remember a stage when dannii would be grabbing headlines or constantly doing interviews etc. There was loads of kylie mercahndise etc but i dont ever remember seeing any for dannii.

Love and Kisses was released today June the 3rd back in 1991. 29 years ago !! Can you believe it?

We had 5 Dannii singles in one year !! Back in the days where Dannii danced her arse off with her jack swing american sound. The most successful Dannii album in terms of sales.

Lets rank/order the album :)

1. Baby Love (written by Stephen Bray who wrote many Madonna hits including Into The Groove) The album mix and single mix are different but both are jams!!!

2. $ucce$$ (was stuck at #11 for three frustrating weeks)

3. So Hard To Forget (this was my track at the time of release)

4. Jump To The Beat (do you prefer the album version or the 7 inch single release ? I can never decide, they are quite similar)

5. I Don't Wanna Take This Pain

6. Love & Kisses

7. True Lovers

8. Call To Your Heart

9. Attitude

10. Work

11. Party Jam (The Japanese release was titled Party Jam and did not include JTTB or BL)

12 Love Traffic - Did you know that Kylie sings backing vocals on this track?

The length of the album cuts are really long !!

I have really fond memories of this album, i know every song by heart and still enjoy listening to all the songs.

Party Jam remix by Bruce Forest was far superior i wonder if it was considered as a single at some point?

Also i want to point out that Baby Love was the only single off this album that was not released in the UK on CD Single. I dont understand this , this surely affected sales. Maybe it would have gone top 10?

Ah such an iconic album - I remember rushing out to get the vinyl with my pocket money. Definitely one of those albums that you had to appreciate at the time to appreciate it now.

I love Dannii back then as much as I did Kylie - such a great time for pop music too

Yesterday marked 30 years since the original release of this album, which was then a self-titled release only in Australia and with a slightly different tracking list.

Albumism have published an anniversary article on the album to celebrate: https://www.albumism.com/features/dannii-mi...y-retrospective

Dannii is one of those albums that could easily be parked at the back of any collection if you haven’t listened to it since its release. However doing so would be a mistake, as with a fresh set of ears and a more mature and clearer understanding of music, it’s clear that Minogue went out on a limb to experiment with a sound that didn’t fit the stock standard pop music mold of an up-and-coming female singer from Australia at the time. Like a fine bottle of wine, this album has bettered itself with time, or maybe it has simply grown into itself, finally.

30 years.

Tbh I really do prefer the updated track list / remixes that came with the UK album.

It’s a Dannii-versary.

Today marks 32 (!!) years since the UK release of the album.

Fun fact - I won a signed copy of the album on vinyl from the children’s TV show ‘Ghosttrain’ - I still remember the question I had to answer! It was ‘What number did the Love & Kisses’ single reach in the UK’ - guess I’ve always been a chart geek!

UK Chart Run:

8-21-27-29-40-36-38-28-28-30-32-35-38-52.

(RE) 62-65-66-68-64-51.

I believe the re-entry was due to the expanded edition being released called ‘Love & Kisses and…’ which was quite an unusual tactic back then?

Love & Kisses - TOTP

Jump To The Beat - TOTP

Baby Love - Live Vocals TOTP

A great album at the time, but it has aged poorly since.
