Wow. Both teams with over 20 goal attempts. This must have been quite an entertaining game between Newcastle United and Everton.

Probably not our best performance. But it’s satisfying to see the team actually grind out a win for once. Very important for getting into those higher positions. Hopefully more success to come for Man United.

We finally kept a clean sheet after so many league matches without one! Two wins on the bounce in the league now after beating Burnley, if we beat Arsenal on New Years Day then will manage to win more than two league matches consecutively for the first time this season. Watford are now looking like a team that will stay up now that Nigel Pearson is working his magic there.

Maybe he will save them from the drop and then they'll start again in the summer?
He'll save them from the drop without question. Far too good a squad to go down. But he wasn't in their long-term plans the last time he did that so why give a 2 and a half year contract this time?

If you find a partner who loves you the way VAR loves Liverpool then you'll be sorted for life!

The fans are to blame though imo. Collectively the majority called for it so people should be careful what they wish for!

From a personal standpoint I think it's more good than bad. It's no different to when referees made stupid decisions that went against your club or benefitted the opposition. Yes it's seemingly favouring LiVARpool a lot (that does amuse me it must be said) but that's no different to when the big teams always got the refereeing decisions. The offside one in particular is frustrating because how can a part of the body that can't legally score a goal count as offside? But overall I hope it stays myself (unpopular opinion I'm sure).

If it prevents mistakes like Henry's handball vs Ireland in 2009 or Drogba's offside vs United in 2010 (that cost us the league remember) then it can only be a positive.

I'm just enjoying how rival fans love the fact VAR is helping Liverpool. Infact I'm pretty sure we were the first team to have a perfectlu good goal disallowed for a bloody armpit being offside and some shite sqiggly lines!

City on the opening weekend surely?

David Moyes has been appointed as West Ham manager and will return for a second spell at the club.

The 55-year-old Scot has signed an 18-month deal and will take charge of the New Year's Day home game against Bournemouth at London Stadium.

That was one decision that went against Liverpool but you still ended up winning that match against Aston Villa in the last minute. What happened today was worse, the guy's finger nail was the only part of his body that was ruled offside and in the end that made the difference between losing a match and avoiding defeat. And it was never in doubt that the goal would be awarded once the VAR review for Liverpool's goal was taking place. There always has to be a VAR review whenever someone scores against Liverpool

West Ham are crazy to take David Moyes back as manager, he didn't do that well the first time around and I doubt he will make positive difference now. Didn't they learn from Watford re-hiring old managers this season?

Wow didn't realise it was a long contract, maybe they'll give him a decent shot this time.

Eh there's a var review after all goals now is there not?

Today's game and ydays disallowed goal for Pukki are the worst examples of the offside nonsense but that's not Liverpools fault that's the rules now(which need changed to only being offside if the foot is ahead of the defender) not parts of the body like today with the guys finger. I mean big Akinfenwa in league one would always be offside for Wycombe lol.

So are Liverpool 13 clear at the top with a game in hand because of var Houdini?

A few have gone against us, but just looking at offsides specifically with the freeze frames he was offside. That’s the rule- you can score with a toe, you can’t with an armpit! The issue isn’t with VAR (although maybe the technology isn’t 100%) it’s with the interpretation of the offside law and then how referees are using the technology to justify the decision.

Technically you are because VAR got you an extra 2 points today

Well let's go through all the decisions and see where points were won and lost because of it then, maybe united would be top!

Another thing I didn't like was with the Mane goal. Goal it was yes (wasn't a handball by VVD or Lallana) but the fact the ref blew the whistle. The old adage has always been "play to the whistle" so if the ref blows that should be the end of play regardless of what happens next. If the ref isn't sure they simply shouldn't blow. It may have not made a difference specifically to the goal yesterday but it's setting a dangerous precedent going forward.

In contrast, the Newcastle goal vs Sheff United certainly was fair because the defence gave up themselves assuming it was offside when it ultimately wasn't. Difference there? No whistle. No problem.
