Posted July 17, 20204 yr :hi: So this thread will be a place to discuss entries for the rounds. I have a rough idea for the categories (having seen them all) but obviously, I'm open to your suggestions too! Particularly with the album tracks as I'm not sure if people have any particularly favourites they'd like to send. We have quite a lot to choose from as you can see and a lot of recognisable big hits so I reckon we can defy the haters and smash this, let's go~
July 17, 20204 yr Author Reserved post for entries/record of scores ROUND 1 / FREE CHOICE: Yellow (4th/16) ROUND 2 / ALBUM CLOSER: Up With The Birds (15th/16) ROUND 3 / COLLABORATIONS/REMIXES: Princess of China (1st/16) ROUND 4 / FREE CHOICE: The Scientist (9th/16) ROUND 5 / FREE CHOICE ALBUM TRACK: Lovers in Japan (7th/16) ROUND 6 / FIRST SINGLE OF AN ERA: Violet Hill (10th/16) ROUND 7 / UPTEMPO ALBUM TRACK/NON TOP 40: Major Minus (6th/16) ROUND 8 / LAST SINGLE OF AN ERA: Talk (6th/16) ROUND 9 / DOWNTEMPO NON TOP 40/ALBUM TRACK: Daddy (11th/16) ROUND 10 / FREE CHOICE: Fix You (5th/16) ROUND 11 / SHOULD'VE BEEN A SINGLE: Fun (feat. Tove Lo) (4th/16)
July 17, 20204 yr Author Round 1 is Free Choice so anything goes really, but I reckon we should start with a classic. I feel Viva la Vida. The Scientist and Fix You are the big ones that could do the best here just based on their performance in various polls, so I may save them for later rounds. Any suggestions welcome, but I was thinking Yellow just because it's the twenty year anniversary so would feel fitting!
July 17, 20204 yr I would include Paradise in the big hits for the end, Hymn for The Weekend and Princess of China would also do well considering who features on them. Yellow would be good, or maybe Clocks? Or some left-field choices could be Charlie Brown or Magic? I reckon they could get through round 1.
July 17, 20204 yr Author There's no eliminations so no need to worry about getting through! It's more about getting a mixture in, but starting with a classic feels right. Ah yes, those are all good shouts for the big hits as well. I was mainly going by the Survivor results I did earlier this year. I'm not the biggest fan of sellout 2010s Coldplay :kink: but I think I'll be willing to compromise at some point x
July 17, 20204 yr Ah I see then yes an oldie would be good to showcase Coldplay! I prefer Clocks a bit to Yellow but both are good choices in that department.
July 17, 20204 yr I agree that Yellow would be a good choice right now with the attention it's getting at the moment through the 20th anniversary of Parachutes!
July 18, 20204 yr Yellow or Clocks to start off would be a good choice I’d love for Everglow to get a chance to shine too it’s one of my absolute favourite songs
July 18, 20204 yr Yellow sounds like a great starting track, I mean, it was for the career and all some 2010s sellout Coldplay would definitely be fine to delve into at some point x
July 18, 20204 yr Author Thanks very much all, Yellow seems a consensus pick so I'll go with that, it'll just be like the start of their top 10 journey *.*
July 20, 20204 yr Author We finished 4th, a great start! :cheer: Round 2 is ALBUM CLOSERS but the closing track cannot have been a single (though I've checked and promotional/radio singles can be counted as album tracks, so I'm just going by wikipedia's definitions) Our options: (from Parachutes) (from A Rush of Blood to the Head) (from X&Y) (from Viva la Vida...) (from Mylo Xyloto, this was just a limited 7" single so I believe it would count, if not, it's Don't Let It Break Your Heart) O/Fly On (from Ghost Stories) (from A Head Full of Dreams, Colour Spectrum is just an interlude I think) (from Everyday Life, that's made my keyboard go wonky) I need to relisten as I'm not really over-familiar with ANY  but if anyone has any favourites, then shout!
July 20, 20204 yr Everything's not Lost is amazing! The only one I remember to be honest... but doesn't X&Y end with Til Kingdom Come?
July 20, 20204 yr My favourite is probably Everything's Not Lost but I'm not sure whether that would translate as well to everyone else...
July 20, 20204 yr you're probably right, Everything's not Lost is great but mostly for fans of indie/singer-songwriter stuff maybe Up with the Birds, that's a nice one if I remember it well Edited July 20, 20204 yr by Bjork
