playlists I am sure if they paid some of these streaming sites they could get higher up playlists and added etc

Except that would potentially constitute as chart-rigging and might be very murky legal grounds? Plus, if it was just about "pushing some money towards streaming sites" then all labels would do it.

I really wish half of this topic wouldn't be made up of posts like "she needs to do this show or needs more streams or her label isn't doing anything". BMG doesn't care about a hit single and financially it would just be a stupid decision to put a lot of money to get some extra streams or sales, when the label knows damn well Kylie's days of getting a chart hit are over, just like all her peers. The album and tour, that's what it will be about and rightly so.

But they do. They want it to do well and have longevity. They have released 4 YouTube videos, Acoustic versions and remixes. Course they want a hit and success for single and albums.

We are only offering and predicting what can/could happen.

Anyone can have a hit if they have the right song and connect with music lovers. ANYONE.

BMG wanted Dancing to be a top 40 hit no doubt about it and they even released a new Kylie Store bundle mid week to make sure they did.

It's a Kylie chat page, we are happily chatting away about possibilities and wishes. We are causing no harm. We have been doing this for 32 years why stop now

So it's just a couple of Spotify people who Decide what goes on the playlists....? Can't see it. And it cannot be popularity because some songs are on every playlist going even before anyone has heard them on day one, so there must be something going on

A lead single needs some level of success as it kick starts a new campaign and we have seen in the past how the wrong choice of lead single can negatively impact the album.

BMG know Kylie is no longer a singles act but they would at least aim for a Top 75 lead single.

My only hope of a physical release still is that they didn't package the bundles with a CD single like they did with Golden which was a big selling point for the bundles....

So if it had been packaged it would mean the physical release date would have to be 6th November too which is too long away.

Lets see 🙄😉

Eh, that's the thing that happens with playlists on radio stations. A couple of people who decide what gets played and what does not. Why would Spotify be different?

But IT IS doing well, just look at the airplay charts. That matters a lot more for an artist like Kylie, the kids who stream honestly would never buy or stream a Kylie record. She needs "older" people on board, aka the people who listen to the radio, so with Say Something doing so well over there, a lot of people here it and think it's success or are just introduced to a new Kylie era.

Those three downloads on iTunes or payed streams (which is absurd to even start with) to make top 75 would not make a single different.

We cannot compare the charts these days to 10, 15 years ago. Even five years ago everything was different.

I don’t think it will make a big difference whether Kylie reaches the T75 with say something. The album will still do okay based on a solid fan base and strong ore-orders.

But Record Companies do have influence over playlists....

Kylie Darenote won't

Influencer curated playlists on Spotify: This is where big money can be spent. There are hundreds of promotional companies that promise Spotify spins by securing song placements in highly followed playlists that aren’t directly curated by Spotify but, rather influencers on the platform. It isn’t ironic that the three top promotional streaming companies are owned by major labels. Digmark is owned by Universal. Filtr is owned by Sony. Topsify is owned by Warner. While major label artists have direct access to these services, indie artists pay an average of $2,500 a song to be pitched and placed into influencer playlists on Spotify. This is a quick and easy way to rack up targeted streams and playlist adds which are both numbers that Spotify curators look at.

The whole ‘Kylie’s team should get her a hit’ thing has been done to death now, BMG, Kylie’s management and probably Kylie herself either don’t care or realize the days of big hit singles are over.

In the way the charts work now it makes zero difference to an act like Kylie if ‘Say Something’ charts at #32 or #72 - it’s getting radio exposure etc., and her target audience will be aware of its existence and the fact a new album is coming, from a fan point of view I’d love a physical for my collection but it would do nothing for it chart wise other than inflate its chart position a few extra places which the general public don’t care about (Most probably believe ‘Dancing’ is one of her biggest hits rather than just scraping the Top 40).

But what’s the benefit of that investment to an established artist like Kylie? As has been discussed to death it would make no difference if ‘Say Something’ gets to #38, #58 or #98 - She is such an established artist that there is always TV opportunities for her regardless of singles chart positions and she is getting radio support from the stations that target her demographic.

Even if she does end up high on a playlist that they pay for it’s not going to add thousands of sales to the album and will likely result in SS just hanging around the lower end of the singles chart - literally zero benefit for an established act but of course majorly important to an act just starting out.

No I am just trying to say that there are influencers that work for/with the big record labels and Kylie doesn't get supported by this.

She has to work at it with her Kylie brand and while that works for TV appearances but not for streaming purposes

The chart placement is irrelevant to almost everyone apart from the fans who keep a close eye on the charts.

For most, if they hear a song on radio they assume it's a hit.

Most would believe Dancing to be a bigger hit than songs such as Chocolate which won a top 10 place.

Dancing would be more familiar to the public than the 3 Impossible Princess singles all of which won higher chart placements.
