I already know there are going to be so many unpopular choices (and gags when you realise your fave isn't here x) in this :melb:, but I found myself sitting compiling a list of my favourite queens so thought I'd do a countdown of my top 50 queens from Drag Race (with some international representation of favourite/most promising queens too)!

Top lot predix? Missing out predix?

Mariah Paris Balenciaga

Wsi4rrM.png

Appeared in: Season 3, All Stars 5

"In a room full of 10s, I'm always grand prize!"

First up is Mariah Paris Balenciaga (also known as simply Mariah), who first appeared on Drag Race way back in Season 3. Gone far too soon, but anticipated too given her poor performance in Snatch Game as Joan Crawford. Coming back being and looking just as fierce in the most recent season of All Stars, Mariah suffered a similar fate. Her performance in the first challenge of AS5 though - the Variety Show - was one of the best on offer and she really should have placed high for that.

Chad Michaels

Appeared in: Season 4, All Stars 1

"I'm Cher, bitch!"

Next is the very first queen to be inducted into the Drag Race Hall of Fame - Chad Michaels. After pairing up with old friend Shannel for the entirety of All Stars 1, Chad sashayed all the way to the top after a bumpy start landing in the bottom in the first challenge. I've only just recently finished making my way through All Stars 1, 2 and 3, but certainly understand the comments about All Stars 1 and how dirty it did some queens. Should Rujubee have won? Yes. Chad's still a fantastic seasoned queen though. His Snatch Game performance as Cher in season 4 will always be funny, even if the times when his Cher impersonation seeped into practically every other part of the show became grating.

Ivy Winters

4oASvbx.png

Appeared in: Season 5

"Ivyyyyyyyy Winters!"

Ivy Winters managed to turn some really great looks during her stint in season 5 before being sent home against Alyssa Edwards - being the only queen in the history of the show to have walked the runway in stilts (a great look too, harking back to her circus roots). Despite other queens cementing themselves as fan favourites since appearing in the season, Ivy was named Miss Congeniality and is one of only three not to have competed in more than one season. Even All Stars 6 seems unlikely now considering the rumoured cast. Ivy's Snatch Game performance wasn't the best, but she managed to perform well in a number of challenges and was one of the most loveable personalities throughout her season.

Kennedy Davenport

YOKxOk0.png

Appeared in: Season 7, All Stars 3

"f*** my drag, right?"

Kennedy Davenport next, and for some of season 7 she didn't really wow me, but Snatch Game was the turning point. Her portrayal of Little Richard was the best thing about season 7's edition of the game; even saying very little her mannerisms and sounds paid off massively. Move onto All Stars 3, and Kennedy's entrance look is up there with the best of them, but as it got closer to the final and she continued to stay, I found myself not loving her as much as I should have. Despite that, Kennedy knows how to turn a good look when she wants to, and can do a killer lip-sync and dance routine when she really has to.
Kennedy's AS3 entrance look might genuinely be my worst entrance look ever. Love love love her though- although she only really had one good week in AS3 her presence in the werkroom was always very appreciated.

Lemon

4ngaMz7.png

Appeared in: Season 1 (Canada)

"I hope everyone thought I looked like Groot's sexy mother."

The only queen in the countdown that will be representing Canada's Drag Race, I had to include Lemon because for all four episodes of Canada's Drag Race we've seen, she's been my firm favourite, and to me seems like a queen that will go on to do great things with her career. Despite having a dodgy start in the competition landing in the bottom two (resulting in an epic lip-sync to I Really Like You), Lemon bounced back and won the following challenge and has since been consistently great. Her citrus fruit aesthetic is great, and I'm hoping she'll finish the season with a medal position at least.

Milk

LcuYHPs.png

Appeared in: Season 6, All Stars 3

"I would've picked Thorgy to stay..."

Next up is Milk - known for her more out-there drag interpretations, i.e. walking the runway in a prosthetic nose likely the same size as his dick. Despite all of the unconventional looks, it didn't propel Milk much further than she might have anticipated; she finished 9th in both appearances on the show in both season 6 and All Stars 3. Second time around, Milk was a less interesting character and more of a plain bitch, but still with a lot to offer and certainly a fishy queen without any of the gimmicks. One thing that definitely seems most off-putting about Milk though is Nico Tortorella being her drag daughter. How unfortunate.
In love with everything so far except Milk...I just can't stand her and especially during All Stars 3 where she bitched that she deserved to be on the top every challenge lmao!!!

Yeah she was really annoying in All Stars 3 with all the bitching and comments, but I still liked her!

Monét X Change

RLWBrKQ.png

Appeared in: Season 10, All Stars 4

"Soak it up, bitches!"

This was probably my biggest will-I-won't-I inclusion here - on one hand I think Monét is really basic and unpolished, but on the other hand I think she's such a down to earth queen who has given us many iconic moments in Drag Race herstory (the sponge dress says hello). Monét was the first Miss Congeniality to go on and win a season of All Stars, coming back moments after appearing in Season 10. I think she plays into the idea, quite perfectly, of not allowing enough time between a queen's first appearance to going on to appear in All Stars - where was the progression or development? Sadly Monét definitely wouldn't have been among my top picks for the crown in All Stars 4, but fair play to her for going all the way!
I love Monet and everything but I just wish she was more polished (as u mentioned) and also it feels from time to time like a copy/cat of Bob The Drag Queen. I don't know if she does that purposely or she just can't really help detach herself from coming across as Bob!!!
I've never thought about my top 50 queens...however none of these yet are my faves :P except Lemon who has potential. I soured (ha) on Milk after All Stars.

Vanessa Vanjie Mateo

lfjNZLL.png

Appeared in: Season 10, Season 11

"Burn the wigs! Burn those f***ing wigs!"

Fan favourite Vanessa Vanjie Mateo, known more affectionately as Miss Vanjie, didn't fare so well when she first appeared on Drag Race in season 10 - she was eliminated in the first episode. But, she was thrown a lifeline when she was invited back for season 11, and she ended up finishing in 5th place! Despite placing high three times in season 11 though, she also ended up in the bottom the same number of times. Much like Milk, her affiliations are the most offputting things about her for me - having Alexis Mateo as a drag mother is not it. There's absolutely no denying Vanjie has buckets full of personality and was one of the most entertaining things about season 11, and any other appearances she's made since, too.

Detox

tg5U833.png

Appeared in: Season 5, All Stars 2

"So many things fit inside my box."

I wasn't a fan of Detox in season 5 at all, mainly because of the 'Rolaskatox' nonsense that dominated. She's definitely a talented queen, but it was all tainted by that for me. Flash forward to All Stars 2, and Rolaskatox is still very much alive, but with the girls trying to pretend it doesn't exist, or actively trying to distance themselves from it to progress individually. All Stars 2 was a step in the right direction for me with Detox. She had some messy moments, but she turned some properly amazing looks (particularly her read leather look). I'll never forgive her though for saving Roxxxy for the 9 millionth time - having just watched All Stars 2 very recently, my blood is still boiling x

Plastique Tiara

JULCp7Y.png

Appeared in: Season 11

"She looks like a Teletubby trying to strut for the first time!"

Plastique Tiara completes 41-50, being one of my favourite queens from season 11 (although that's not exactly a mission considering we had some... choice queens in said season). Plastique ended up finishing eighth, and I feel like she had it in her to go a little further, so hopefully seeing her in a future edition of All Stars (6?) isn't out of the equation. She's such a great presence on social media - she lives up to the 'fishy queen' tag well, and looks incredible both in and out of drag. She's got so much charisma too, and seems like a really lovely personality. Here's hoping if she were to come back to the show she'd be a fierce queen with something to prove. Hailing from the Haus of Edwards works in her favour too, tbh.
