August 31, 20204 yr Spotify has a Playlist about Britpop with lots of subscribers, nearly 500K, and funnily track #2 is The La's - There she goes, which is not even from the 90s lol Though it’s the fourth best song of the 90’s according to Radio X’s countdown this afternoon. Sorry I couldn’t be here, but glad to see some great tunes being played.
August 31, 20204 yr it's from 1988, got re-released in 1990 but I mean, sure it's not Britpop Edited August 31, 20204 yr by Bjork
August 31, 20204 yr it's from 1988, got re-released in 1990 but I mean, sure it's not Britpop Yes, but it charted in 1990. It may have been released before the term was coined but the band are from Liverpool and therefore 'British' and it sounds quite 'pop' to my ears too, so quit complaining!
August 31, 20204 yr You're Gorgeous by Babybird definitely should have been in this. I think my favourite is probably Wake Up Boo!, followed by Live Forever and Slight Return. I bought a good vinyl compilation the other week called Loaded which has many of these on it.
August 31, 20204 yr You're Gorgeous vastly outsold Trash in 1996. Is it likely that Trash would have made up the difference on downloads since? It also outsold A Design For Life. Edited August 31, 20204 yr by Colm
September 2, 20204 yr I can't help but think they just failed to include You're Gorgeous and A Girl Like You. Would be interesting to see what other big sellers are missing - Tubthumping is the one that is springing to mind, but I guess that wasn't strictly Britpop - although neither was a few others!
September 3, 20204 yr Tubthumping certainly sold enough to be included so I assume they decided it didn't count as Britpop.
September 4, 20204 yr You're Gorgeous is as Britpop as Shampoo. No, really, if we're going for slushy ballads there is absolutely no reason not to include Back For Good, it's British, written by a band member who's British, who came on the scene during that period, and way better :P
