No idea where this has come from but found a different edit of Dark Ballet. I prefer this cut , it features more Madonna and the joan of arc character says the Tchaikovsky section.

I will get round to doing a track by track review of this album very soon, like I've done for all her other albums, which you can find in their respective album discussion topics.

Where to begin with this album? So much to love so much to just say meh to....I was so excited for this era, looking forward to the World Music vibes that were coming from the recording sessions. I loved Medellin (but the video was such a missed opportunity). The album promo was just awful, culminating in the disaster of Eurovision. Some great tracks though, and ranking this album is pretty easy for me.

1. Medellín (with Maluma)

2. God Control

3. Come Alive

4. Crazy

5. Looking For Mercy

6. I Don't Search I Find

7. Crave

8. Dark Ballet

9. Killers Who Are Partying

10.Batuka

11.Ciao Bella

12.Extreme Occident

Sadly, I don't like the below tracks at all... and skip them.

13. Funana

14. Back That Up to the Beat

15. Future (with Quavo)

16. I Rise

17. Faz Gostoso (featuring Anitta)

18. Bitch I'm Loca (with Maluma)

This album was released 2 years ago - how time flies!

It's a great listen although it contains a fair bit more filler than I initially thought looking back on it. Still it has some of her absolute best songs imo in Crave, I Don't Search I Find and God Control

^ they really missed a trick not releasing or making a video for Faz Gostoso

They really did! I remember Madonna saying she wanted to do a video but she kinda joked there wasn't enough in the budget and asked Anitta to fund it. Not sure how true that is but it would have been worth pushing 'Faz Gostoso' given the way it was showing signs of being a streaming hit.

I think the singles run was pretty decent as it was (although could have done with being a bit tighter) but pushing 'Fas Gostoso' in Latin America/Spain/Portugal etc. at the same time 'Crave' was a single elsewhere would have really worked.

Batuka Video did not need to happen, its nice but no one cared.

We also never ever got any God Control remixes released !

Yeah, Batuka was obviously a key part in Madonna’s Portuguese journey and the video was a nice insight into that, but it’s not a fan favourite and the budget could have been spent on Faz Gostoso.

Wasn’t there a court case regarding the writing credits of God Control which prevented them from releasing the remixes? I think it was solved and went in Madonna’s favour so it’s a shame they just seem to be sitting in the vault.

On the topic of God Control, it’s only featuring on Now That’s What I Call Pride! :o

and we are delighted to close disc one with an epic track, ‘God Control’, rarely compiled from Madonna.

I have had a ~heavy~ weekend tbh and my listen through of 'Crave' earlier hit me hard. It's easily my favourite song on this album and I rank it very well in terms of her discography as a whole. I can't describe the vibes it gives me. I'm glad we got this album for that song alone! I'd love her to explore that sound further moving forward.

I’ve seen on Twitter that those who live in New Zealand and Australia have seen that the deluxe version of this is now on streaming sites there. So it should go on streaming sites whenever it hits Friday in your country

Interesting! So the 'official' version of 'Back That Up to the Beat' is going to be available as well as the demo and sped-up demo.

Will be nice to have 'Ciao Bella' on Spotify.

Spotify streams for the bonus tracks after a day of release:

Funana - 6,404

Back That Up To The Beat - 8,618

Ciao Bella - 9,823

Not great at all but not promoted at all on social media or on Spotify (no focus track to appear on people's Release Radar playlists and the album wasn't highlighted as a new release).

I still find the lyrics a bit clunky on 'Funana' with the artist name-checks but I quite like the music itself in all its autotuned glory and I do appreciate the sentiment of the song.

maybe they dont want to take away from BTUTTB demo!
