You can also debunk it because no reverse image search pulls up any results, and no wayback machine results have that avatar of his so it'd have to be some really, really old screen caps that for some reason have been kept undercover until now, and for some reason the original tweets were deleted but not any of those other dodgy tweets of his that still exist, implying everyone here is playing 5D chess and definitely not stan twitter trying again to cancel someone for outselling their faves. They still call Tones and I a racist (when not fat-shaming because they're classy like that) because of extremely obvious doctored images so it's just another strike against Twitter's cesspool.

wow wasn't expecting that, at least it should give it a good boost

it's kinda worrisome seeing one of the biggest stars with a song being track #1 on all playlist and only doing 400K a day

It has had a bit of a “meh” reception to be fair. It’s more reminiscent of boyfriend than thank u, next

I think the days of big number 1’s on Spotify are over. The biggest week for a #1 this year is 4.5 million streams for No Time to Die. Last year there were 9 separate occasions where a song exceeded 5 million in a week (7 rings (x3), Vossi Bop (x2), buwygib, I Don’t Care, AIWFCIY and Last Christmas). Plus Old Town Road exceeded 5 million on 5 separate occasions if combined.

Not to mention if we go back to 2017, Ed Sheeran exceeded 7 million streams a week (1 mil a day) on 5 separate occasions (Shape of You (x3)[4 times if combined with Stormzy remix], Castle on the Hill & Galway Girl).

In fact Shape of You exceeded 9 million in its first week and exceeded it again at a later date when combined with the Stormzy remix.

These numbers seem unachievable these days and I’d be surprised to see songs exceed 5 mil a week with the exception of Christmas songs

but will christmas songs even do that much in the weekly chart this year considering covid restrictions, spotify getting less market share and christmas day being a friday?

I suppose it nearly is time for my annual christmas chart predictions thread too.

so whats the biggest daily figure of the year in the UK? No Time to Die, I guess? It's the only instance of daily streams > 1 million that I can recall

I looked at this a few weeks ago, but stupidly didn't note it down. It was "Last Christmas" in 2018, I *think*?? No Time to Die was 3rd behind Mariah in 2019 too, i think!

Christmas Day 2018, the 2 biggest daily days ever I think (#1 and #2): https://spotifycharts.com/regional/gb/daily/2018-12-25

You’d think it would increase as older people start streaming going forward?

Spotify don’t have such a monopoly on the streaming market these days so it is spread out. With the Alexa units, that has helped amazon take a good share from Spotify/Apple, as shown with river going #1 despite being amazon exclusive. Other than that current chart music isn’t the most accessible to all demographics and will still mostly be made up from the younger age groups.

Apple Music

 100. Harry Styles - Golden

Video's out at 4pm! Could be in for a good boost, Watermelon Sugar's video had a gigantic effect so even anything slightly as big would be amazing.

but actually I don't think Spotify has lost its market share... it did during the pre-Xmas months last year and you could see the Alexa effect

but don't think Amazon has that effect anymore. Many times there are tracks that go super high on Amazon but don't even go top 100 overall

and it's the same with Apple. Still it's Spotify what rules what's a big hit...

I think the Spotify figures aren't higher cos people are streaming songs that are not current. Specially older people. I see it all the time with my coworkers, everybody is like listening to Crowded House Greatest Hits or some 2005 Fiona Apple album, nobody listens to Hot Hits...

You’d think it would increase as older people start streaming going forward?

I think if/when vinyl dies there will be a big boost for acts that sell a lot of those on streaming, I know loads of people who pretty much exclusively purchase and listen to vinyl records.

I expect it will be a very big year for Christmas songs, even if they don’t quite have as big a week officially due to the chart dates. I think people will more than ever be looking to them for comfort, joy and nostalgia after such a hard year, in the same sort of way that Strictly ratings are up. They’re familiar and heartwarming, and that’s what people quite understandably want.

Saying that, are Radio 1 broadcasting a chart show on Xmas Day  I can't remember the last time that happened, and what they did, I think Christmas TOTP just announced the #1 track.
