November 3, 20204 yr Think Green Light will be the #1 - potentially Royals to miss the top five? :o not everyone likes it considering how significant it is! I think Ribs/Supercut/Team will be top 5 and Sober & Homemade Dynamite to be the next two out.
November 4, 20204 yr Tennis Court #11 is a shock! I'm pretty indifferent to it though so not disappointed. That's a solid top 10. Only 3 left from Pure Heroine! Maybe the top 3 or 4 (maybe 5?) will be a Melodrama sweep.
November 4, 20204 yr 1 Green Light 2 Team 3 Royals 4 Supercut 5 Perfect Places 6 The Louvre 7 Liability 8 Ribs 9 Homemade Dynamite 10 Sober I’d love for Team to win but I think this is Green Lights #1
November 5, 20204 yr Tennis Court is fine but I'd say that's about right. I'd definitely replace Team with it in the top 10 but I think that's a generally great top 10 and the 7-3 split certainly sums up how I feel about the two albums
November 5, 20204 yr I always preferred Tennis Court to Royals or Team but I guess Im the minority both here and in the real world as Tennis Court flopped while Royals was a UK - US #1 :o
November 7, 20204 yr Author nlcIKh6sBtc 10. Royals ~ 8.58 We crave a different kind of buzz The debut single and the highest selling song in this countdown, kicks off our top 10. A shock? Exposing Lorde's disapproval of the luxorious lifestyle presented by music stars in their songs and music videos, it went on to become a global smash both critically and commercially. One of the best selling singles of all-time, 'Royals' hit the #1 in the UK and the US (remaining there for 9 weeks!) and has cemented itself as a stone-cold classic. Winning awards for Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance at the 2014 Grammys, there is little that the song hasn't been able to achieve. Written in half an hour during a school holiday, it helped to pave the way for a new generation of artists breaking the mould. Criticising consumerism and ridiculing the lifestyles hip hop songs, it gave birth to her career in the most explosive ways possible. And yet, only #10 here? :o
November 8, 20204 yr That's unfortunate for Royals considering it's the song that started it all for her, but also such a testament to how strong her discography has been ever since
November 9, 20204 yr Author UvgigkaSCZA 09. Sober ~ 8.68 I'm clean out of air in my lungs Released as the album's second promotional single, Sober is the first part of two on the album. In this song, Lorde contemplates her desire to tell someone how she feels about them, while also wondering how these feelings will be once sobrierty kicks in. With a very minimalist production, the song deals with heartache and using alcohol as a means of dealing with this. The constant reminder that the buzz of the party will wear off and reality will kick in is represented through the refrain "what will we do when we're sober?" and it's a vivid contrast to the dreamlike landscape that the rest of the song creates. Featuring a roaring tiger, the song is an experimental insight into the world of a teenager partying her angst away, but never quite being able to reliquish it.
November 9, 20204 yr Wait whaaaaat at 'Tennis Court' missing the top 10??? I thought that would have (deservedly) been a winning contender or like top 5 absolute minimum! :( I'm not as surprised at 'Royals' being this low (I know there are some people who got sick of it after a while etc.) - it isn't my absolute favourite from her any more as it was for some time, so I guess it did very slightly tire on me too, but I'd still put it up there in her top 5 probably. Think there is only one song left now that I gave a score lower than 9.5 and that's just my one spicy hot take in her discog (I expect it'll still be top 5 despite me dragging it down slightly x). Very pleased that 'The Louvre' is still in the running <3
November 10, 20204 yr Author 4qaeoz_7cyE 08. Ribs ~ 8.81 I've never felt more alone A promotional single released for the debut, Ribs is a beautiful, haunting song about Lorde's fear of aging. Inspired by a big party she threw when her parents were away, and her fear of getting older, the song grows increasingly more frantic as Lorde realises the stress she is undergoing as time passes. A critical success, with some noting how it was her strongest song to date, the song merges club, techno sounds, with a heartbeat that beats and intensifies as the song progresses. An incredibly vulnerable song with an intricate structure, for me this is Lorde at her absolute best: combining heartfelt, daring lyrics, with divine production and haunting vocals. As she sings of feeling alone, being scared of getting old, having that one friend like no other, laughing through the pain and heartache, and knowing that life will never be enough, she tells of an entire lifetime in 4 glorious minutes.
November 10, 20204 yr Author This has become my favourite Lorde song  I find it so painfully relatable, vulnerable and heartbreaking. The production is sublime, her frantic vocals are incredible and the lyrics are perfect and poetic. My 11 and deserved to do even better here but this is really turning into one of the most hard-fought rates I have ever hosted! :drama:
November 10, 20204 yr Another one that's surprisingly low, that seems to be the song I most often see cited as the best album track from 'Pure Heroine'! (Although I guess it is still the highest 'Pure Heroine' album track here and only behind 'Team' including the singles so it's moreso that the 'Melodrama' tracks have just dominated this). Definitely another song I've only appreciated more over time, and probably one of her best songs lyrically.
November 15, 20204 yr Author 'Ribs' definitely deserved more. I know it doesn't count for much, but it's consistently her most listened to track on last.fm globally - clearly has a huge following, especially given it wasn't a single!
