was checking last years River's sales and it really makes no sense, it did 78K when it reached #1, based on Amazon streams alone. it's paid so 1:100 rate applies, so that's 7,800,000 streams total, an average of 1,112,000 streams a day. That's huge and you cannot even have a flop day cos that would ruin your average... but that week included Dec 26th, where no one streams Xmas songs anymore and for instance Mariah did just 250K on Spotify...

 

looking at the week averages on Spotify, Mariah did an average of 782K per day (unless Im miscalculating), Wham did 769K

 

so I find it kinda unbelievable that River did on average 1,112K per day

on Amazon which is an outlet that sure does not have the same market share than Spotify...

 

You could also download ‘River’ from Amazon so that would have contributed some sales especially as it was the only place to download it, plus the 3 video versions on YouTube would have contributed

Would there not be you tube data also?

youtube counts translate into very very few sales

and River wasn't a youtube hit either

 

 

YouTube is free sales only so at a ratio of 600:1 - River is currently only on 2.6M views after being out for a year. Even if all those views were from the UK (which they are definitely not) that's still only around 4,300 sales after a whole year of being out.

 

Edit: Just found out she only did 245 sales from youtube - so that's only 398 sales that aren't from Amazon streams.

I remeber looking at those figures last year. Based on them Ellie had over 2 million streams more on Amazon during the week than Mariah on Spotify. Like... HOW? I still can't imagine that being possible.

The Christmas songs beginning their climb back up Spotify on a Wednesday is a sight to see especially in November, Mariah could have this number one spot before xmas week imo!
