Ew. No. Absolutely not. Olly Murs is not an actor. He is a Cowell singer.

We need our first female doctor anyway. This era will be retconned to have never happened oe to have been a strange dream, hence the thumb-sucking anf other strangeness.

Agreed Olly Murs isn't an actor :) and has nothing to do with my post x

If previous appearances are not considered an obstacle, there is also Russell Tovey who has also worked with Davies more than once.

I'm honestly not sure RTD coming back is brilliant news.

If it works great, if it doesn't that's probably the show gone. Think about how heavily RTD leaned on the introduction of old monsters in his first series, something he can't do now which means plot arcs and spectacle are going to need to be through the roof to recapture the public's imagination.

I'd be interested to see if RTD's first episode gets higher viewing figures than Jodie's first episode as Doctor, depending on which actor they get the combined hype could be insane.

^ old monsters only accounted for four episodes out of thirteen in RTD's first series (three of which were the Daleks who are pretty much a given anyway)!

Yeah, let’s not forget all the great episodes that didn’t rely on old monsters.

Back then they knew how to pace episodes and write a decent story. This is what I hope to see again.

But the second and third series were the more hyped weren't they, Tennant was when it was a smash hit.

Average ratings of the RTD era:

Series 1 - 7.95m (4 episodes of classic monsters - 1x Autons, 3x Daleks)

Series 2 - 7.71m (4 episodes of classic monsters - 2x Cybermen, 2x Cybermen & Daleks)

Series 3 - 7.55m

Series 4 - 8.05m

So series 1 was actually bigger than the two that followed on average. The whole era was huge regardless and that's surely largely down to how well series 1 set it up.

Time shifting over the course of the later series really makes series by series comparisons more and more difficult on a show running this long but it's interesting to see those figures, it's certainly felt like Tennant's era was much more event TV from memory.

Either way the pattern is fairly obvious with Series 12 being down to 5.4m.

omg finally, i keep forgetting that we’re actually getting a series by the end of the year

now release the trailer if we’re only three weeks away :frankie:

  • 2 weeks later...
Episode 1 is called The Halloween Apocalypse, and episode 2's title has just been confirmed as War of the Sontarans!
  • 1 month later...
Doctor Who was the seventh most streamed boxset on iPlayer this year with 41.8m streams. The figures don’t include December so I’m sure this will miss out a significant proportion of streams for Flux!
