#1 in the UK!

Her 8th number one here, moving her ahead of her tied second position with Barbra Streisand for females with the most number ones. Just need to beat Madonna's 12!

From the OCC:

Congratulations to Kylie Minogue, who claims this week’s Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart with her new collection DISCO, setting an incredible new Official Chart record in the process.

Kylie’s 15th studio album debuts at the top with 55,000 chart sales – the biggest opening week of 2020 so far. DISCO is the star’s eighth UK Number 1 album and Kylie’s biggest opening week in 10 years, since 2010’s Aphrodite.

This week's result means Kylie sets a new Official Chart record, becoming the first female artist to score a Number 1 on the UK’s Official Albums Chart in five consecutive decades - in the ‘80s, ‘90s, ‘00s, ‘10s and ‘20s. See where all of Kylie’s hit singles and albums have charted.

"Official Charts Company, thank you so much!" Kylie told OfficialCharts.com. "DISCO has entered the charts at Number 1! I don’t know what to say, I’m lost for words, thank you to everyone who has supported this album and this campaign, it means the world to me. I’m so touched that it’s made it’s way to your hearts. I love it!”

Kylie’s DISCO was the best-seller of the week both physically and on digital downloads, plus also claims one of the fastest-selling vinyl albums of the year, with 13,500 copies sold on wax.

An eighth Number 1 means Kylie also now surpasses the likes of Sir Elton John, Sir Cliff Richard and George Michael in the all-time league of acts with the most UK Number 1 albums.

Now we just need Australian to do their job... how's it looking over there?

A dead cert

Such wonderful UK news confirming Number 1.

6th Studio Number 1 in addition to her 2 Greatest Hits sets.

I wonder how many (female) artists achieve three number ones in as many years as well? There can't be that many.

So nice seeing the UK #1 finally official too

I wonder how many (female) artists achieve three number ones in as many years as well? There can't be that many.

I can only think of Ariana Grande, who’s had 3 in such a short amount of time.

It really is such an amazing result, not just the position and making history but also just look at those sales! And people were scared lockdown would have a negative effect on them, she has really done so well and it's amazing to see. An true pop icon <3

Kylie will be having a bottle of her wine to celebrate to night.

I am sure Tesco will send her a bottle to congratulate her success

From Music Week:

It is a tale of two albums. One from a veteran star of over 30 years standing, who still inspires as much excitement as she did at the height of her career. The other from four women who continue to defy assumptions and expectations of the shelf life of both pop bands and talent show discoveries.

The winner of what remained throughout the week an absorbing chart battle is Disco by Kylie Minogue. The Australian singer's 15th studio album surges to the top with a quite phenomenal sale of 54,905, the highest weekly tally of 2020 so far. It is her eighth No.1, Madonna (12) the only solo female with more chart-topping albums. Kylie becomes the latest addition to a growing list of acts who can boast No.1 albums in five consecutive decades, chart-toppers in the 80s, 90s, 00s, 10s and now 20s making her the first female solo artist to achieve such a run.

Runners up then are Little Mix, who by no means disgrace themselves with a chart sale of 49,887 for Confetti, the highest total for a No.2 album since Week 51 last year. Assuming it climbs no further Confetti will be their second album to peak in the runners-up position. But they still deserve accolades, the first all-female act to release six studio albums with an unchanged line-up. They lost the chart race thanks to fewer physical sales (35,646 vs 45,497) and fewer downloads (3,981 vs 6,368), their superior streaming numbers (10,260 vs 3,040) not enough to close the ensuing deficit.
