10. Blackpink - Playing With Fire

 

 

 

 

Does it hold up?: We begin with a song that's not actually from 2019 but I was listening to all year after seeing Blackpink live in May (remember watching live music ) :o Playing With Fire is easily still one of their very best and is one of the highest non-Ariana tracks in my Last.fm most played list.

Blackpink are a band I've heard sporadically but from what I've heard I do enjoy their music

I have evidently forgotton Playing With Fire completely although it does sound familiar giving a listen now! Still a decent song.

Playing With Fire was from 2016 before they really got any popularity here which I admit is a weird way to start a top 10 songs of 2019 list :lol:

9. Little Mix - Bounce Back

 

 

 

 

Does it hold up?: From one girlband track straight into another. Little Mix have had another great year for me but this song hasn't been one I've found myself going back to all that often. However today is probably the one day in 2020 where I've been loving it most, having watched the LM5 Tour Film in the cinema earlier this morning and being reminded just how fun this song was to hear live.

Does it hold up?: Yeah. The interplay between the two here is off the charts and I would happily listen to them going back and forth for a whole album. 4 minutes is just too short and flies by. Still got this one on heavy rotation.

7. Y2K & bbno$ - Lalala

 

 

 

 

Does it hold up?: I haven't gone back to this one much at all this year. The song is still such a massive earworm (seriously, how did he forget that melody) and remains one of the best songs that TikTok brought to light but it's lost some of its charm over time. One of my favourite videos of recent time though.

6. AJ Tracey - Psych Out

 

 

 

 

Does it hold up?: Not really. It was lucky to reach #6 last year and would probably only just about remain in the top 20 if I were to re-rank. It's still a great chilled track with a flow you don't often hear from British artists but I prefer Butterflies and this wouldn't be the track I'd go to when I want to listen to AJ.

Ah so THAT's what the other Dave album track was called :magic: Certainly not as memorable as the other two but it is going round in my head now I've seen the title.

 

I quite liked Psych Out when it came out but it's definitely been overshadowed by his more famous stuff, unlike you I find Butterflies even more forgettable though whoops.

Does it hold up?: Yes! It's only an interlude that just about runs 2 minutes in length but it's just so joyful. It just sounds like some friends having fun because that's exactly what it is. It's rare to find a song like this on any recent rap album.

Does it hold up?: This is probably the 2019 Ariana track that I've went back to most this year :kink: In some ways this is very similar to the previous song as it's just friends having fun rather than a great song and isn't that a brilliant thing to be listening to in the year 2020? :)

Monopoly is another song that has completely vanished from my memory unfortunately!

Does it hold up?: Yeah. This has re-overtaken '7 Rings' again for me now. The song is just so fun and catchy and was an instant favourite from my first listen of the album. It's a shame it seems to be largely forgotten about now for a UK #1 single.

Does it hold up?: Yeah but I've listened to it less than both Monopoly & BUWYGIM this year. It did really go off on tour though so today is the perfect time for the documentary to debut on Netflix. Also a very suitable day to talk about a song about engagement rings. Congrats Ari :heart:

Does it hold up?: Yes! Very deserving of it's #1 position last year. This is really beginning to establish itself as one of my all-time favourites and even with their debut album finally being released this year, this remains the best Blackpink song. It ends on such a great note that makes me want to start it all over again instantly.
