Giving 'betty' a listen since you mentioned it in my chart, sounding quite nice although not grabbing me completely. No Body No Crime was probably my favourite I've heard from Evermore though!

 

Ego Death was one of the better rap songs to come out of America this year, on first listen Mood Swings was my favourite of the Pop Smoke songs but certainly has some less-than-savoury lyrics in it. Loading is one of the better rap songs from last year as well.

 

Betty grabbed me on first listen but it might be a grower for you. No Body is certainly my fave from Evermore too. :D

 

Ego Death is pretty fun. I certainly wouldn't expect you to be a fan of the lyrical content of Mood Swings :lol: Glad to see your not too down on 'Loading', it gets too much hate on here.

The first of five times Megan will appear in this countdown and aside from WAP, it's all with tracks that were never hits in the UK. I wasn't a fan of Savage, Don't Stop nor Body but this track she released in between was a killer. A reworking of Eazy-E's non-NWA debut 'Boyz-n-the-Hood', the song does have an old-skool style that isn't present in the rest of her songs. The song is very brash with rockier elements, reminiscent of Eminem's Berzerk, and a slew of direct one-liners that demand your ear and keep the song punching.

Landing at 34+35 this year is Little Mix's summer jam Holiday. I found this so underwhelming during it's release but it has really grown on me since Confetti's release. However I would still say it's Little Mix's weakest single since the double-punch of Little Me and Word Up. The cover art is the best area of the single and I had to buy the t-shirt with the design on. We've got much better Little Mix songs still to come.

This is one that I've loved so much more than it's chart run suggests. I've ranked it 68th but it could honestly be so much higher. I've not got bored of this one bit. All three verses synergise together beautifully and whole song is just a vibe, perfect for when you just want to sit back and get lost in some music and the story the lyrics tell. It's really making me wish more labels would just put all their artist together and tell them to have fun because Revenge of the Dreamers III is slowly working it's way up to be considered an absolute all-timer for me. The chorus features some back-up vocals from Ari Lennox, who will definitely get her chance to shine in this countdown later on.

Another song where the beat completely makes it. This is another hard-hitting, socially-conscience song from the duo. El-P's verse focuses on the environment while Mike spits about the role of the media on the world. El-P's great but Killer Mike completely steals this whole album and this is another tour-de-force verse from with with intricate flows and uncompromising bars. Weirdly, El-P had said on Twitter than the hook was originally written for Elton John which I couldn't imagine at all.

This was released as Juice's first solo-release since his tragic death and it a really difficult song to listen to. With the lyrics mainly focussing on his anxiety and his addiction to drugs that he uses to cope with it, Righteous is certainly emotional. But it's also beautiful and the same time and let's Juice shine through with why he was one of most influential, creative and versatile artists of this generation. Rest in peace :heart:

British hip-hop has a wonderful tradition of these types of songs where rappers just go back-and-forth interchangeably during the song and it always works so well, see last year's 'Disaster' by Dave & J Hus for another brilliant recent example. This style means that the trick lives and dies on the chemistry and interplay between the two artists and the two work together beautifully here. The video is a delight too and really plays in to the fun nature of the song.

The highest placed album track from 'The Album' is Love To Hate Me at #64 leaving the 3 singles (and the Lady Gaga collab) still to come for Blackpink. It's quite the typical Blackpink dance-pop track with and heavy-bass beat a big chorus, but it's a style that works for them so well. Jisoo's verse is obviously my favourite but Lisa's rap is great too.

This is still in my top 10 and it's just unlucky that it's December release has really affected it's position here. This is easily the cream of the crop from the Secure the Bag! 2 EP. It has that chilled beat that made Butterflies such a massive tune and an absolute killer chorus that stays with you after you've listened to it. Proper old-skool AJ, which might be why it didn't catch on officially.

Completing this section of album-tracks is 'Love Language'. This was the instant favourite of the album tracks but it has been overtaken by another in this countdown. This one of the most upbeat, and certainly the funkiest effort from Positions that worms it's way in your in head from first listen. The outro just gives you one final little kick to make the song just that little bit better.

Giving Yumeko a listen now, the vocals sound very reminiscent of similar rap songs in the chart but the backing track puts a bit of a refreshing twist on it which is nice.

Holiday deserves more love than it often gets, it's not their very best single and definitely the least good of the three Confetti singles but a strong song nonetheless, that double chorus is so infectious!

This might not be the pinnacle of rap this year with some slightly cringy lyrics but it's just so fun you can ignore its faults. Largely based around a sample of Minnie Riperton's 'Lovin' You', this is very light and breezy which contrasts perfectly with the darker sounds of the drill that has dominated the UK hip-hop scene this year. I really enjoy SL's verse, like a 21 Savage that never left England, he has the same half-asleep style that makes his so divisive. It was the perfect song to start the summer season.

This is one that has finished higher than it's chart run would suggest because it hasn't got old for at all and is still picking up plenty of listens. This did nothing me for the first few times I heard it and then the original start to grew on me. But in the end it is the remix that I can't stop listening to. It's absolutely epic, RV's verse kicks off the remix perfectly and OFB provide decent verses too. The original video has been deleted off YouTube for reasons unknown but was obviously a diss to Tion Wayne with the unsubtle references to 'I Dunno'. However, this song has lost the war in terms of the songs because Tion is still to come. I could easily see me ranking this above 'I Dunno' this time next year though.

Another song that needed a remix to get it a position in this chart. When I first heard the original of this I thought it was pretty rubbish. 'Just joshing' felt like such a weird phrase to use in the chorus of a rap song. But all four verses in the remix are fire and the chorus started to get irritatingly catchy like a rash . Good on Jack for not being lazy and writing a whole new verse for the remix. It's a shame that Tory's verse is so good seeming what he done this year. At least Megan still has multiple entries still to come (as lead artist).

I'd never listened to any of Chloe x Halle's music before this year but they have really been such an amazing discovery this year. The whole album is jam-packed with great tracks and is well worth a listen but this was the stand-out of the album tracks. A really playful R&B bop with cheeky, gossipy verses and a chorus with that you can't help but sing along. The two singles will be seen much higher up.
