I think this is the only non-2020 song that has made my countdown this year. Originally released in December 2018, this is from her Tina Snow alter ego and is much more airy and less in-your-face than the huge hits that have defined her recently as an artist, even if the highly sexualised-lyrics remain. This feels ripe for TikTok to jump on it and make it a massive hit.

Come & Go is by far my favourite thing to come from Juice WRLD, a brilliant song and really glad it made the Top 10 officially!

 

It really does feel the song of his that feels the most wide-appealing so I'm not too surprised to see it be your favourite of his. :)

One of those songs where every line hits. The album was released just days after the protests broke out all across America in reaction to the tragic murder of George Floyd and hearing the entirety of Mike's first verse and in particular the line "And you so numb, you watch the cops choke out a man like me until my voice goes from a shriek to whisper, I can't breathe", made it impossible not to feel both despairing and angry. It's extraordinary that the verse was already written months before. This song is never any less effective, no matter how many times you hear it. One of the most important songs of 2020.

Itzy had a breakthrough year in my charts in 2020, bagging themselves two #1 singles and becoming only the 2nd K-Pop group to reach those heights. It's the 2nd of which that ends up at #42, the very brash and energetic 'Not Shy'. This was one of the flukiest chart-toppers of the year and only managed to debut at the top on a very quiet week. This is my 2nd favourite song anyone else has entered to BJSC since I've been taking part, only behind another K-Pop entry that was in the very same contest.

Pop Smoke is unlucky to land at both #76 & #41 this year. The Woo was the song that had the most instant success after his album was released even if it eventually ended up being overshadowed by 3 TikTok related mega-hits. It still remains my favourite song he's released. 50 ended up getting his first hit since the forgettable Eminem/Adam Levine collaboration in 2012 after he took on the responsibility producing the album due to Pop naming him as his biggest inspiration. After recording the hook, Pop never got the chance to record any verses before his untimely death so 50 got the help of Roddy Ricch to turn this into a fully fledged song. The verses are alright but it's the chorus the worms its way into your brain.

Kicking off the top 40 is the all-star collaboration between three of the biggest names in UK rap. Headie wisely chose this as his first time to feature with AJ Tracey & got Stormzy to return the favour from 'Audacity' to create a song that was guaranteed to be a hit just from those names. The song features samples from garage classic 'Bump n Grind' by M-Dubs & Lady Saw and Red Hot Chili Pepper's 'Pretty Little Ditty' which is of course best known for its usage in Crazy Town's Butterfly. I think the sample does a lot of the heavy lifting here as AJ & Stormzy provide solid if unspectacular verses and are capable of much better.

I'm so glad this managed to scrape a top 10 peak in the official chart,

I've got to be honest, with so many songs called Boyfriend recently I had kinda forgotten how this one went. The song is uber-generic but that's not always a bad thing, trends become trends for a reason. It's a bop and easily to enjoy when it's on but she is capable of better. 'Music To Be Murdered By' does have some pretty weak tracks, especially on the recently released Side B, but it also has some incredibly strong highs. No other album has managed to get two album tracks in my EOY top 40 this year! All the guest features really turn up here with crazy wordplay and brilliant punchlines, in fact Eminem probably has the weakest verse on the joint, even if his diss to Lord Jamar really stings in the most hilarious way. The chorus sounds simple but it's multi-syllabic rhyme scheme just flows so well that it's hard to resist. Poor Joe Budden being left out of this Slaughterhouse reunion track though.

This is one of those examples where a remix just takes a song to a whole other level. The song was already an earworm but then Doja provides with one of the verses of the year. Lyrically, her verse is nothing special but her delivery where she fits about 200 different flows in 13 bars (even including some singing) is just wonderful and helms cement her as one hottest artists in the world right now. This song really deserved a lot more attention, the two voices go together so well the song radiates proper old-school vibes and not just because of Doja singing "this is the reeeeemix". This is not the last we'll see of either artist.

I was never that much of a Pussycat Dolls fan back in the day but there was something about the hype surrounding their comeback that got me excited and the song (and especially the video) did not disappoint. I'd never seen the X Factor performance so this was completely new to me on release day and I was sold within seconds. The only criticism would be that it is essentially another Nicole Scherzinger solo effort. I'm surprised the rest of the group agreed to come back to just be mostly glorified back-up singers and dancers again. The song is just a really solid pop song and I'm delighted it managed to get a top 40 peak and hang around well. I'm not quite sure why I got bored of this so quickly before because I'm loving this again now.

I was a little underwhelmed by this when it was first release but then it completely hit me out of nowhere and I've had it in full rotation ever since. On such a highly-politicised album like RTJ4, it was a refreshing change of pace for this throwback to 90's hip-hop with DJ Premier's marvellous production that includes some nostalgic scratches at the end.

I've never really been a fan of Lady Gaga, but 'A Star Is Born' has really seemed to turn her career around and by collaborating with two of my favourite artists, she managed to bag herself back-to-back #1's in my chart. Sour Candy is the first of which to appear. The song features a beat very reminiscent of Truffle Butter and Gaga speak-rapping but the standout, of course, is Blackpink. Opening with them was a great idea as it gets the song off to such a great start. 2:37 is too short though, we needed an extra verse. I've warmed to most of Lady Gaga's old stuff too now although Bad Romance remains borderline unlistenable.

Nostalgia is a key-term you will see me associate with plenty of entries in this year countdown and you don't get more nostalgic than rappers from legendary Hip-Hop groups all coming together to pay homage to some of their favourite artists. Eminem's verse is great with strong punchlines and humorous references (and of course a MGK diss) but Black Thought completely steals the song with his smooth rhymes that are making me feel like I need to go back and check out some of The Roots's albums.

Giving Ooh La La a listen now, the beat is quite nice although as usual a bit of language in there. Sour Candy was a decent charting song, and I was one of the few who didn't mind Boyfriend as well!

Hi Lewis, favourites from the last few are Gloves Up, safety net, Boyfriend and Ain't It Different, all amazing songs :wub: Gloves Up definitely one of the best album tracks from Confetti, although I think I'm a Mess (Happy 4 U) is becoming my favourite of them all :heart:
