Adele will no doubt come back with a big album but it won’t come close to matching the sales of any of her previous albums. It may not even sell 1 million units. The market has changed dramatically since her last album and a million selling album will now become a rarity rather than common place!

Definitely, I would be happy if she sold over 100k in the first week!
I personally have no doubts that she can still move sales like no other, especially if music is as good as RITD or Hello!!!

Shane Codd will release a single featuring an estabilished dance vocalist (like Becky Hill or Raye) a rapper or both.

Some other song from Lithuania HQ will become big.

Calvin Harris will release a Love Regenerator collab with Solardo.

A track by British rapper featuring an American one will be a top 3 hit in the UK and scrapes Billboard Hot 100 (ie. AJ Tracey feat. DaBaby).

Tones and I releases several singles which will all fail miserably everywhere except Australia.

An Australian drill act will get an UK top 40 hit (most probably Onefour, possibly a collab with a british or american artist)

Let's see how well we did...

Adele is more likely than Rihanna I think but both are well overdue.

sure Rihanna is coming in 2021 and Adele sure too

I think we will get an Adele album in Q4 next year (we would've this year if it weren't for that pesky covid) but Rihanna probably not sadly.

Adele did indeed comeback, Rihanna did not.

Billie, Ariana, 24kGLDN will continue to have a great year and I'd like Paolo Nutini to return even if he is past the days of getting close to top 40 again.

Good year for Billie. Quiet year for Ariana after 34+35 died down besides remixing Save Your Tears. 24kGoldn follow-ups did nothing. Paolo Nutini still MIA.

was just reading about Taylor's 3rd album apparently titled Woodvale ohmy.gif

I've read theories that Taylor has been hinting at a 3rd surprise album too so I think that'll probably be happening to complete a trilogy of folky albums.

- Taylor Swift will release a 3rd folksy album of diminishing quality and returns

new studio album from her yet to appear.

Kylie Minogue to have a top 40 single again

Barely scraped top 100 with Dua Lipa remix of Real Groove. Helped Y&Y somewhat climb up the chart remixing Starstruck but that doesn't really count.

Disco to return to number 1 with a remixed version on a quiet week

- Kylie will have a no.1 disco album

Disco re-issue definitely won't be going to #1

I'll bet that Ariana will release another album before either of [Rihanna/Adele].

She put out a deluxe re-release of Positions but no sign of a new album

I agree that this should be another good year for Ariana - with '34+35' re-peaking in the top 3 somewhere and perhaps 'pov' becoming a top 5 hit too with a proper push. She stuck to a 3 single run for both 'sweetener' and 'thank u, next' so I won't be surprised if she stops at that again.

34+35 peaked at #3. pov did nothing on single push.

Manifesting a Lorde return in 2021 also

New album was released

Blinding Lights will probably stay in the chart all year. Christmas most likely won't get cancelled despite the mass takeover this year.

Blinding Lights still in the chart. No new rules to ban Christmas songs from the chart.

Rihanna could come back collaborating with Justin Bieber or someone else, hmm.... Ariana Grande.... Taylor Swift. biggrin.gif laugh.gif

Rihanna still not back

Hoping an Indie band will make a big comeback. I love to see more Indie music back in the singles chart realistically at #1

JLS return and have a #39 single.

They returned but only scraped top 75.

I predict an Ed vs Adele Q4 battle next November, the music industry would have a melt down

Both are set to release

I really think Rihanna will come back in Q1 2021

Still no sign of her

another one that should come back is George Ezra, he cannot leave it too long

no sign of him

and I guess Lewis Capaldi will come back with all the guns probably with a new single in Q2/Q3 I guess, would be extra interesting if he clashes with Ed Sheeran

he's kept quiet too

Ed Sheeran and Adele the obvious big comebacks I suppose, maybe Rihanna? Nobody knows with her laugh.gif

Yes yes and no

Taylor's re-recordings are probably happening at some point in the year, it'll be interesting to see how they do.

Two of them will have been released by year-end

and I saw someone mention ABBA's singles, let's hope they're finally coming cheeseblock.png

They are

- Foo Fighters will have the highest first week sales of Q1 in the album chart with 'Medicine At Midnight'

Sold 42,486 to do so

- You Me At Six to score an easy Number 1 album on low sales

Sold 14,298 to make #1

- Joel Corry to score an easy Top 5 hit with a January release of his next single, maybe Number 1 depending on the feature

'Bed' released in March and made #3

- Tiesto to have another random Top 10 hit in the summer

Yet to follow up The Business with another hit

- Calvin Harris gives in and puts out some commercial bangers under his own name which will get him at least 1 Number 1 single

He put one out and made #9

Joel x Jess coming for 10 weeks at #1

No Joel x Jess collab

Jess Glynne to comeback with a new album

- Jess Glynne will release her new album mid way through the year that will have moderate success, but unlike her first album.

Still MIA

Major Lazer score another #1

Didn't get any chart success this year

George Ezra's heavily hinted towards new music next year which is good. Lewis Capaldi's confirmed, as did Ed Sheeran's manager a few months ago

Only Ed actually released

- Ed Sheeran and Adele return at the same time, and Adele's new era is MUCH smaller than her first two. She will be around Ellie Goulding, Burn era, size rather than Adeling or Beyonceing up the charts. Thete will be a lot of jealousy about her weight loss, ala Victoria Beckham, cauisng a massive sales decline, coupled with people having moved on from her music AND not wanting ballads in a year after a pandemic. Ed will officially become the biggest (and shittest/ most contrived) act in the world.

Adele still big as ever

- People might finally accept that Rihanna has retired from music

We still live in hope

- Britney will be forced to release morw robotic dance by her father, but the fans will FINALLY be wise to the fact that she has not been a singer since 2007 and will not buy into it.

No new music from Britney

- GaGa will release an awful song from Chromatica instead of Alice

Nothing more pushed from Chromatica

- Ariana G will get the first post-Xmas no.1

She didn't

- LadBaby will release another awful Christmas no.1

Hopefully he won't

- Alexa will continue to stomp around like Caesar at Christmas

She probably will

- Sophie Ellis Bexter will continue with her iamspamspamamidisco-style Instagram concerts and maybe start charging for online 1 hour-long concerts

She's currently flogging a book

-Men will continue to dominate the charts and streaming

And they still do

- Talentless "rapper" Drake will already have sweatshopped his producers and writers in their studio tents to create "his" next album. People will hammer his maudlin beats.

Album was put out and it dominated streaming.

- Pop Brat Justin Bibber will continue to struggle to stay relevant, even coming off his victory over LadBaby with thr NHs Choir song.

He's done rather well for himself this year

- Adele will have the biggest album of the year by an absolute mile.

Looking that way

- Ed Sheeran will release an album, but will be less successful than his previous releases.

Will still be very successful no matter what

- Gaga will release a reissue of Chromatica, with a few new songs that will have moderate success.

Remix album was put out, none of its tracks were hits

- Little Mix will announce they are splitting up for good early next year, followed by a solo single from Perrie towards the end of the year that will flop hard.

Still haven't split yet, no Perrie solo single

- Taylor will release a 3rd album that will continue from Folklore & Evermore and it will give Taylor her 7th number one album, however she will still be unable to secure a second #1 single.

She got another #1 album but not with a Folklore/Evermore continuation

- Ariana Grande will be involved in a surprise collaboration, which will be huge and give Ari her 8th/9th number one.

does the Save Your Tears remix count here? although it didn't go #1.

- Cardi B will release her second album and it will be one of the biggest albums of the year.

No album from her

- Rihanna won't release anything and her fans will have a meltdown.

Correct

- Beyonce will release a surprise visual album towards the end of 2021 and it will be a big seller towards Xmas.

Beyonce will Beyonce a album

Nothing from her

Kendrick Lamar will come back and have one of the biggest rap albums of the year getting a us number one hit but only managing low top 10 in the uk.

Nothing from him

we may finally get something from Bruno Mars again although I wouldn’t be mad if he continued to stay on hiatus.

he came back although under the Silk Sonic project rather than as a soloiist

Jesy ends up missing Little Mix too much by the end of the year and announces her comeback in December with a brand new Little Mix single in January 2022

Lol

Hope studio killers get top 40 in January

No

a new Drake single in Jan featuring Ariana wouldn't surprise me, Drake really needs to step up the game after this year's fiasco releases

No Ariana collab or Jan single

Hope little mix at least release an album as a trio

does a Greatest Hits album count?

There be now 108 now 109 now 110 and now 8 now 9 now 10

Yes

There will be multiple Eurovision songs in the top 40, now that the songs are being promoted on the big playlists.

Only one made the top 40

Ariana achieves a further 4 number 1 singles

She didn't have one

RAYE has a big year as a feature

She had 'Bed' and 'Ferrari Horses' both get big

after the JLS reunion tour, The Saturdays will announce a reunion for Summer 2022... let me manifest this.

Nothing announced

Little Mix will fly to #1 if they release a new single as a trio

They didn't

- 2021 will be closer to 2019 in terms of #1 turnover, with one big song getting to the top just as the last one hits ACR.

#1 turnover has been very slow

- Shane Codd will follow the paths of Joel Corry/Nathan Dawe by releasing another song around March time which outpeaks Get Out My Head, which will get into the Top 10 in January.

Shane Codd's follow-up bombed

- If there is a song for Euro 2021 it will be by someone we've never heard of and will thus fail to chart Whoops, so much has happened this year that I'd completely forgotten that he was actually confirmed! In that case I'll revert to my 2020 prediction that it will feature Anne-Marie/someone equally bland and soar into the Top 10.

It featured Bono & The Edge of U2 and did nothing.

- There will be a few more campaign songs which reach the lower echelons of the Top 40 but nothing which will crack the Top 5.

Nothing of that sort so far

- There will be loads of rumours in January/the summer of an overhaul of the OCCs rules only for nothing to happen.

We only ended up getting a minor rule change regarding SCR resets

- Central Cee will be the next big thing in the rap world and easily get a Top 20 with his next single

He's had a very big year

- And to throw a few more names out there, we'll get Top 10s from Post Malone, Stormzy, Jess Glynne and Dave. Tom Walker will also release new music but won't match the success of his first era.

Post Malone song flopped, Stormzy/Dave got a hit by collabing and Dave had 2 additional top 10s. Jess Glynne and Tom Walker MIA.

Songs increasing in BPM because of America’s political shift

I don't think this has happened

Little Mix, will probably do another TV show of the The Search to find a 4th member biggrin.gif

They didn't

• The song that goes #1 after ge Xmas #1 will be the #1 song that everyone forgets about in 3 months

Everyone forgot about Wham - Last Christmas way sooner than 3 months but it will inevitably come back again

• probably a major Joel Corry collab? Maybe with Mabel or something

A Mabel collab is rumoured, meanwhile we got him collabing with Raye/David Guetta and Jax Jones/Raye/Saweetie

• Adele will FINALLY release something

She did

• Ed releases something that doesn’t smash as hard as his previous leads

He's big as ever

• Little Mix solo projects? Maybe Jade pulls an Ally Brooke and does EDM collabs?

Jesy put out a solo single

• We’ll see another K-pop act/idol group follow in the footsteps of BTS/BLACKPINK and crack the top 40. Kinda manifesting one of ITZY or NCT to do this?

Yet to happen

- Joel Corry feat Becky Hill that peaks lower than the rest of his singles so far but still has good longevity. 15+ weeks top 40, low debut Becky style...

They didn't collab

- Dave returns with another #1 album or EP and a top 5 single but with no longevity, spending only 8 weeks or so Top 40. Will probably feature a singer like Dermot Kennedy or perhaps someone like J Hus...

He had a #1 album. The lead single spent 13 weeks top 40 and featured Stormzy.

- Lewis Capaldi to hop on a dance track like James Arthur and Rag'n'bone Man have in recent years, a potential number one. Could be with Calvin Harris too?

He gave us a break from him this year thankfully.

- Ariana to achieve two number one singles and potentially drop another album in Q4 of 2021, however this album doesn't spawn a #1 single.

No new album from her.

- Drake to dominate next year like 2018, with a big collab to drop and go #1 alongside a second number one off the back of a TikTok trend. 2-3 top 40 drake features too.

Not quite 2018 levels of domination from him and notably no #1 single

- Ed Sheeran to return, Adele to return, George Ezra to return (all been mentioned)

yes, yes, no

- Two charity singles to hit #1 in 2021, one will be backed by a big radio station

Nothing yet

- Big changes to how the OCC is broadcast on Radio 1, perhaps a new slot or new presenter overall and a few format changes.

still business as usual

- Big year for dance music

has been

- AJ Tracey fails to reach #1 again, same with Mabel...

neither had #1s

- 11 week #1 single

Bad Habits did just that

Artists who will reach #1:

- Ed Sheeran (x2)

- Drake (x2)

- Lewis Capaldi (x2 - one feat one solo)

- Ariana Grande (x2)

- Stormzy (x1)

- Headie One (x1)

- An unexpected legacy act (x1)

- Calvin Harris (x1)

- Joel Corry (x1)

- Nathan Dawe (x1)

yes [though he could get a 3rd], no, no, no, no, no, yes [WD on 'unexpected legacy act' ie Elton John], no, no, no

Dua Lipa will have a #1 single off FN-B Side

no

Rita Ora will release a single around March/April and will flop

Almost, 'Big' came out in Feb and flopped

Little Mix will release GH by the end of the 2021 and call it quits/hiatus!!

GH is coming. Hiatus rumoured.

Ed Sheeran and Adele will release the same week for a fierce #1 album competition

As if this was ever going to happen

I suspect a new Kylie album. She's so hardworking, she likes to keep busy and now, no tour to distract her!

Disco re-issue only.

I think Rihanna is/was the best pop star ever. At least since I can remember. But I think she will underperform, maybe full-on flop if she releases anything now. It's been too long I think. I guess that's my prediction for next year. Rihanna will release music but none of it will go top 10 (unless she collaborates with Drake, Eminem or Calvin Harris again, then maybe).

She's still missing.

- Little Mix will have a seventh album and it will hit #1. They will also go from strength to strength and have a big hit single that is a ballad.

No ballad hit yet, album yet to be released.

- Adele will come back, in the Q2 season. Will have a big hit album but not a #1 single.

Q4 return. #1 single and big hit album guaranteed.

- Taylor Swift will have a collab with a big female singer, bets on Katy Perry. This could be from the new album or a stand-alone single.

Didn't happen

- Justin Bieber will release another album, will get panned both critically and commercially.

Album released which did better than his previous one.

- Spice Girls mark 25th anniversary with new Wannabe remixes and a deluxe album of "Spice" in November with new/unreleased tracks.

Spice re-release coming soon.

- Eurovision will be bigger than ever this year, we will see a Top 40 hit in May for one of the songs. Another song in the contest (which won't do so well in our charts) will also get the highest points ever in a Eurovision show.

One song made the top 40 which was the winner and didn't get quite that many points.

- Mariah Carey gets another Number 1 next December. This will in turn spur the OCC to compile charts differently from 2022.

Yet to be determined

I will come back to assess these predictions partway through the year and wonder why I still never get around to posting any actual predictions in these threads.

Nope, I will. But I can't speak for if you're wondering that.

I hope Sunflower Bean have a big album in 2021!

Who

There will be a rock #1 single

Didn't happen

Next month will be FIVE years since Rihanna released her last album Anti. I think anything Rihanna releases will be a commercial success because she is still such a huge name. I think she will release in Q4 next year with some sort of lead released around August.

No lead single in August. Still no sign of her releasing anytime soon.

Apparently Adele will be starting the campaign for her fourth studio album at next months Grammys. The album is ostensibly expected to drop in Spring.

Album not out until November

My prediction: this won't happen, just like it didn't happen the last 500 times people have said 'apparently Adele is releasing in [x month]'.

It didn't happen.

Shane Codd will release a single featuring an estabilished dance vocalist (like Becky Hill or Raye) a rapper or both.

Didn't happen

Some other song from Lithuania HQ will become big.

Hvme - Goosebumps got big

Calvin Harris will release a Love Regenerator collab with Solardo.

He released two

A track by British rapper featuring an American one will be a top 3 hit in the UK and scrapes Billboard Hot 100 (ie. AJ Tracey feat. DaBaby).

Almost happened with Body Remix (one of the guest list was American) but that only made Bubblin Under

Tones and I releases several singles which will all fail miserably everywhere except Australia.

Most of them did but we did get Fly Away belatedly being a hit

An Australian drill act will get an UK top 40 hit (most probably Onefour, possibly a collab with a british or american artist)

Didn't happen

Hey you stole my thing!

(I do indeed wonder why I still never posted any real predictions xox)

Thanks for writing this up though, it is fun to look back on.

Adele actually releasing something was a buzzkill, at least we still have Rihanna for me to relentlessly meme about how she will never release anything again. Quite surprising we got nothing from George Ezra this year actually.

Interesting. Nobody predicted a sea shanty getting to #1, an Italian Eurovision act spawning two Top 10 hits or Elton John getting a new Number 1 single then.

Hope 2022 is the year of the RiRi comeback.

Also we did get a song by a British rapper featuring an American rapper which scraped into the Hot 100 - although it was one that only made the low top 20 in the UK. (That being KSI/Lil Wayne)
Interesting. Nobody predicted a sea shanty getting to #1, an Italian Eurovision act spawning two Top 10 hits or Elton John getting a new Number 1 single then.

Hope 2022 is the year of the RiRi comeback.

His new #1 should have been Sine From Above and not a mashup of his old songs

From the comments mostpeople are looking forward to a new Rihanna album

Im actually glad Taylor didnt do a 3rd folklore, 2was enough

Surprised Ezra has been so quiet

Love that someone actually predicted ABBA’s comeback - I would have put that down as one of the crazier ones!
Love that someone actually predicted ABBA’s comeback - I would have put that down as one of the crazier ones!

We've known about the two brand new songs since 2018 and there were rumours they were going to announce the tour in 2020 before covid happened, so it's not as out of the blue as it might seem.

But number 1 on the year end charts will be a song that topped the charts in Feb. I wonder which song could beat Driver's Licence to that!

Ed Sheeran and Adele return at the same time, and Adele's new era is MUCH smaller than her first two.

People have basically accepted Rihanna has retieed, people FIIINALLY realsied that Britney hasn't controlled her music - or anything dor that matter - since 2006, and there was a massive Free Britney movement, and now she has probably bern allowed to retire.

Adele came back much smaller than before, and Ed is the far bigger act.

All true!

Omg at that Salty Mixer replying to those of us who KNEW the Cowell band would split with, ThEy'Ll Go StReNgTh To StrEnGtH and have their biggest no.1s ever  I can't!! The salt, it threatens ma electrolyte levels!!
