111 Johnny Orlando - Adelaide

112 HRVY - Out Loud

113 GRACEY feat. Ruel - Empty Love

114 JC Stewart - Lying That You Love Me

115 Justin Bieber & benny blanco - Lonely

116 Blake Rose - Rest of Us

117 Trevor Daniel & Selena Gomez - Past Life

118 Charlie Puth - Girlfriend

119 Shawn Mendes - Look Up at the Stars

120 Amy MacDonald - Fire

A pop twink heavy section here, headed up by Johnny Orlando and the second 'single' from his It's Never Really Over EP, Adelaide. While not as good as Everybody Wants You, Adelaide has become a favourite of mine by Johnny - he keeps getting better and better and I can't wait for a full-length album from him. HRVY's Out Loud is a song that dates back to before 2020, from the film Four Weddings and a Funeral, but it's a great song that I discovered this year so it makes the cut. GRACEY collaborated with Ruel on Empty Love, and this is an amazing song - I really need to hear Ruel collaborating with more women because his voice and GRACEY's sound sublime together. JC Stewart's Lying That You Love Me was an instant favourite when I heard it, and he's another that I can't wait to hear a full album by; here's hoping it's coming in 2021. Justin Bieber and benny blanco's Lonely isn't quite as great as Holy for me, but it's still a great song, and quite emotional too. Blake Rose, Trevor Daniel and Selena Gomez are here with Rest of Us and Past Life, respectively. The latter took a while to grow, but I absolutely love it now. Charlie Puth came back with Girlfriend (and then disappeared again soon after x), and it's another amazing track by him - I just wish we'd get more regular output from him but it does seem he's having a bit of an identity crisis at the moment with releases here, there and everywhere, throwing mud at a wall and seeing what sticks. Look Up at the Stars is another stunning track from Wonder by Shawn Mendes, while Fire, one of the singles from Amy MacDonald's latest album The Human Demands, is another one that took a while to grow that I'm so in love with now.

Nice to see Fire make it in! Unfortunately it never grabbed me as much as The Hudson or Crazy Shade of Blue but it's still a great song in itself. I think I've heard Quarantini on my Discover Weekly somewhat bizarrely, I never charted it but I can still remember how it goes so it's got that going for it!

101 Cameron Dallas - Would You

102 Lauv - Tattoos Together

103 Matteo Markus Bok - Háblale Claro

104 Kylie Minogue - Real Groove

105 Jacob Whitesides - Hold Me Down

106 Callum Beattie - Easter Road

107 Shawn Mendes - Piece of You

108 Lady Gaga & Elton John - Sine From Above

109 5 Seconds of Summer - No Shame

110 Conan Gray - Heather

Approaching the top 100 now, and just outside it we have some amazing songs - Would You has probably become my favourite from Cameron Dallas' album Dear Scarlett, while Tattoos Together is another album highlight, but from Lauv's ~how i'm feeling~; it was definitely wise to release this when he did, it's a cute bop and the video was great too. Matteo Markus Bok's Háblale Claro didn't make a great impact in my chart despite being a top 5 hit, but going back to it over the year has helped me love it more and has me waiting patiently for new music from him. Kylie Minogue's Real Groove - the third single from DISCO - was very instant for me, while Hold Me Down is Jacob Whitesides' best song in a long while after a string of EPs that didn't really grab my attention. Hopefully this is a permanent return to form now. Easter Road is my favourite album track from People Like Us by Callum Beattie; a stunning track. Piece of You is another album highlight from Wonder, among a section of what seems like all album highs. Such a seductive, sexy track that with the right music video (Shawn shirtless, being sexy as hell) would be a perfect single. Lady Gaga and Elton John's collaboration on Sine From Above is still such a moment, and slotted in perfectly alongside everything else on Chromatica, and No Shame is one of the better songs from 5 Seconds of Summer's album CALM. Finally, Heather is simply a stunning track from Conan Gray - quite haunting but beautiful at the same time, and (despite how weird they may seem to others) it's just a very well written song with a clever music video too.

091 Isaac Dunbar - God, This Feels Good

092 Johnny Orlando - Flaws

093 Jonas Brothers - Five More Minutes

094 Chris Burton feat. Zophia - Young

095 Kayden - BEND

096 220 KID & JC Stewart - Too Many Nights

097 Ruben - Burn Down This Room

098 Kylie Minogue - Celebrate You

099 Tyler Glenn - Somebody to Tell Me

100 Justin Bieber feat. Quavo - Intentions

Into the top 100 now, and we have not one but two appearances from the Love, Victor soundtrack. Isaac Dunbar's God, This Feels Good is my favourite of the songs - a beautiful one (and, pointless trivia but, the only song of Isaac's to be capitalised x), while Tyler Glenn's Somebody to Tell Me grew on me massively and also became a BJSC entry - a great soundtrack song for the show in general. Johnny Orlando's Flaws is a beautiful, emotional track that is fast becoming my favourite from his recent EP, while Jonas Brothers' Five More Minutes is a cute bop, but not quite up there with their absolute best. Chris Burton and Zophia's Young was a PFSC entry for me that... didn't do so well oops, but still remains such an infectious bop. Kayden's BEND was a massive surprise for me, becoming a big hit and staying around for a while, and Too Many Nights was a fantastic collaboration by 220 KID and JC Stewart; glad he had some success prior to Break My Heart's release. Ruben's Burn Down This Room was a major discovery for me, leading me to the rest of his music, thanks to Jafet in BJSC, while Kylie Minogue's Celebrate You is by far my favourite album track on DISCO. Finally, Justin Bieber's collaboration with Quavo on Intentions is one of very few songs that I go back to on his album Changes; a great song that is sadly lumped with a lot of mediocre ones.

81 Ava Max feat. Lauv & Saweetie - Kings & Queens, Pt. 2

82 Jack Gilinsky & iann dior - Lose Somebody

83 Callum Beattie - Don't Walk Alone

84 Conan Gray - Wish You Were Sober

85 Cory Asbury feat. Tori Kelly - Reckless Love

86 Ronan Keating & Emeli Sandé - One of a Kind

87 renforshort - i drive me mad

88 Marshmello & Halsey - Be Kind

89 Tom Gregory - Fingertips

90 MARINA - About Love

I've never been a fan of Ava Max and her countless re-imaginings of Sweet But Psycho, but the version of Kings & Queens with Lauv and Saweetie added into the mix was just amazing for me - Lauv being there at all instantly made it better, but his verse is good, and the whole song just became kind of iconic for me. Jack Gilinsky collaborated with iann dior on his second solo single Lose Somebody, which I absolutely adore. Him and iann together is a dream, and the song is just so catchy too. Callum Beattie appears again with Don't Walk Alone - his last release of 2020 from the Scottish Edition of his album People Like Us, while Conan Gray's Wish You Were Sober has a strong showing here. Enter more Sandénia BJSC entries as Reckless Love by Cory Asbury and Tori Kelly, as well as i drive me mad by renforshort, both appear here. The former is a beautiful ballad, while i drive me mad is an angsty teen song that really hits the mark. Ronan Keating and Emeli Sandé teamed up for One of a Kind, a beautiful song that I still go back to a lot and it still sounds as great as the first listen. A song for the mums though, I must admit. Marshmello's mental health kick continued with Be Kind, his collaboration with Halsey, and while generally not being a fan of Halsey, this coupled with her album MANIC, was amazing. Tom Gregory's Fingertips was a #1 in my chart, and was a great introduction to him for me, with his album arriving at the tail-end of the year, while MARINA's About Love is a gorgeous song that I still can't get enough of - it's actually just come on shuffle as I'm typing this! I need to watch To All the Boys... on Netflix because the song is really tempting me, but there's so much on my to-watch list already.

71 Ruel feat. Cautious Clay - say it over

72 New Hope Club & R3HAB - Let Me Down Slow

73 Lauv - Changes

74 ZAYN - Better

75 Ariana Grande - positions

76 Mabel - Boyfriend

77 Jonas Brothers & KAROL G - X

78 Kylie Minogue - Magic

79 Troye Sivan - Rager teenager!

80 Shawn Mendes & Justin Bieber - Monster

Shock moment out of the way first - Monster, the collaboration between Shawn Mendes and Justin Bieber, finishes perhaps a lot lower than you'd expect at #80. While still a great song in isolation, alongside the rest of the songs on Shawn's fourth album Wonder, it doesn't really hold up sadly. Still managed two weeks atop my chart though, but did fall out pretty quickly. Ruel and Cautious Clay's collaboration say it over recently had a rebound in my chart, becoming a top 10 hit after not really clicking with me before, but now I love it so much. New Hope Club teamed up with R3HAB for a more dance-sounding version of their song Let Me Down Slow, and it remains such an amazing bop. I did go back to the 'solo' version recently and it sounds just as great. Lauv's Changes and ZAYN's Better both appear - the former being a #1 hit at the very beginning of the year, while ZAYN didn't quite manage to grab the top spot, but still a top 5 hit for him. Both great songs. Ariana Grande's positions kick-started a new era for her, and while it's not my absolute favourite Ariana single, it's a decent song (however much its official success continues to perplex me). Mabel's Boyfriend got a bit of stick for being 'basic' and a bit pop-by-numbers, but I love it so much and the video was great too! Jonas Brothers and KAROL G's X was coupled with Five More Minutes for 'XV' (sadly it didn't amount to a second album from them since their reunion), but here's hoping it'll be coming in 2021! Kylie Minogue and Troye Sivan give us double Australian trouble here; Magic being the second single from DISCO and Rager teenager! an amazing song from Troye's In a Dream project.

61 New Rules - Emily

62 Scott Helman - Wait No More

63 Olivia Rodrigo & Julia Lester - Wondering

64 Foxes - Friends in the Corner

65 Will Callan - Out of Your Life

66 Dua Lipa - Break My Heart

67 Shawn Mendes - Dream

68 Ruel - as long as you care

69 Ariana Grande & Justin Bieber - Stuck With U

70 Reuben Gray - IDWBC

New Rules continued their trend of amazing singles with Emily, another up-tempo one that proved they just keep getting better and better with each release. Scott Helman did the same with his song Wait No More, a real surprise hit taken from his album Nonsuch Park (sa). Olivia Rodrigo and Julia Lester's collaboration, Wondering, from High School Musical: The Musical: The Series' first season shook me when I was watching the episode it features in. It's such a beautiful song, and one that I've had on repeat for a lot of the year. I can't wait to see if we get another song like this for the show's second season because this is truly remarkable; a marvel for both. Foxes came back to us with some new releases in 2020, but so far it's not led to a new album. Friends in the Corner is now firmly up there with her best releases for me. Will Callan's Out of Your Life became another in his collection of #1 hits in my chart - a groovy bop, while Dua Lipa's Break My Heart took a little longer to gel with me. It's a great single, but didn't quite reach the same heights as Don't Start Now, Future Nostalgia or Levitating. Now though, after its commercial success, the music video, etc, it's firmly clicked and I keep going back to it. Shawn Mendes' Dream is quite literally dreamy - for Shawn a perfect summary of Wonder, and I'd agree with that. It builds up to a beautiful climax and has become one of my favourites from the album, while Ruel's lead single from his latest EP, as long as you care, remains a solid bop. Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber's collaboration Stuck With U... did not chart at all for me... but now I absolutely love it! It's the highest non-charting song in the countdown, and with each listen it grows more and more. Finally, another #1 for Reuben Gray in my personal chart, IDWBC (or 'I don't wanna be cool') was another moment for him - much like New Rules, just getting better and better with each new release.

51 HRVY - ME BECAUSE OF YOU

52 Lauv & Conan Gray - Fake

53 Johnny Orlando - See You

54 iann dior - Holding On

55 Little Mix - Not a Pop Song

56 Lauv feat. Alessia Cara - Canada

57 Dua Lipa - Hallucinate

58 Isaac Dunbar - comme des garçons (like the boys)

59 The Vamps - Married in Vegas

60 Little Mix - Holiday

Two doubles in this section - the first of those being Lauv and two collaborations. He teamed up with Conan Gray for Fake, a good 'f*** you' song that they both sound sublime on, and the second being Canada from his album ~how i'm feeling~ featuring Alessia Cara. Canada is a beautiful track, and by far my favourite album track; a top five hit too. Then we have two entries from Little Mix - instant grat Not a Pop Song that got some flack but I just cannot deny how much of a perfect BOP it is, and Holiday, the second single from their sixth album Confetti. My personal favourite of the two that preceded the album (Break Up Song is not it). HRVY's song ME BECAUSE OF YOU was a great start to the year, serving us another solid pop song, although ultimately not the best of the year as there's still more to come from him in the countdown. Johnny Orlando appears again with his single See You, a lockdown tune that is more chilled than his other songs, but still lovely. iann dior swept me away with Holding On when he released it at the very end of the year, and it's done well to reach this high at such short notice. A great song, and I'm so excited to follow him as I'm sure he's going to have a great 2021 too! More from Dua Lipa, Isaac Dunbar and The Vamps here as Hallucinate, comme des garçons (like the boys) and Married in Vegas all appear, proving that pop is still the ultimate genre in 2020 for me; two #1 hits and Hallucinate took a while to take off, but eventually made it into my chart, albeit not for a long time compared to other songs from Future Nostalgia.

41 Blake Rose - Gone

42 Katy Perry - Daisies

43 MEDUZA feat. Dermot Kennedy - Paradise

44 JC Stewart - I Need You to Hate Me

45 Isaac Dunbar - love, or the lack thereof

46 Why Don't We - Lotus Inn

47 Grace Davies - Just a Girl

48 Callum Beattie - Fuckers

49 Little Mix - A Mess (Happy 4 U)

50 Captain Cuts feat. AJ Mitchell - Stuck in My Head

Blake Rose had a good 2020 in my chart, and Gone was his biggest hit - a beautiful track that really hit me and stuck around for some time. Katy Perry's Daisies was a massive return to form following a few singles that just didn't hit the mark. If this had came straight after Never Really Over, who knows, maybe we would have had a slightly more successful era in Smile? Sadly though it wasn't meant to be, but this is still up there with the best of her discography in my opinion. MEDUZA teamed up with Dermot Kennedy for dance track Paradise, and it immediately became a favourite for me - by far the most enjoyable song from MEDUZA to date for me, and one of Dermot's very best. JC Stewart continued his trend of smash hits in my chart with I Need You to Hate Me (another BJSC entry), while Isaac Dunbar had yet another hit with love, or the lack thereof. Why Don't We's Lotus Inn is one song that I regret not having a better run than it does. It's still charting, but it failed to reach the same heights as Fallin' (Adrenaline), purely because other new releases at the time pushed it down a bit. It's an incredible song though, and I still have so much love for it. Grace Davies' Just a Girl is by far her best song since her days on The X Factor, after a string of releases that were good but not quite amazing. Callum Beattie's politically-charged song Fuckers is such an anthem, commenting on the difference between letting 'fuckers' run the world and letting 'lovers' run the world. Callum is such an exciting artist that I can't wait for more like this in the future. By far the best album track on Confetti, Little Mix's A Mess (Happy 4 U) shoots up into the top 50, while AJ Mitchell's collaboration with relatively unknown artist Captain Cuts, Stuck in My Head, was another BJSC entry for me and a brilliant song that has, quite literally, been stuck in my head since it was released.

Lots of good songs in this section! Reckless Love, i drive me mad, Burn Down This Room, Emily and Paradise in particular

Giving Lotus Inn a listen, giving me a real throwback to when boybands were the latest trend!

  • Author

Thanks for commenting both

I get the same kinda vibe from Lotus Inn, Pete, definitely like a throwback to the more traditional boyband sound *.*

36 Harry Styles - Falling

37 Isac Elliot - Weekend

38 Katy Perry - Only Love

39 Will Callan - Waste of You

40 Emeli Sandé - I'll Get There (The Other Side)

Down to the top 40 songs of the year now, and the top of this crop is Harry Styles' single Falling, from his second album Fine Line. Falling was immediately my favourite song from the album, so when it finally became a single it was such a great moment. From his performance at the BRITs to the music video - everything about this release was perfect. It's such a stunning song that I'm so glad had a moment to shine. Isac Elliot managed a relatively big hit in my chart with his single Weekend, undoubtedly one of his best songs to date for me, while Katy Perry's Only Love was immediately my favourite album track from Smile. It manages to perform better than Daisies in this countdown, despite only managing #2 in my chart compared to Daisies' peak of #1. It's a beautiful track and its lyrics are the best thing about it - a love letter to those closest to you and how you only need love. Will Callan continued to release single after single in 2020, and Waste of You saw him dip more into the ballad side of things; a gorgeous song his voice sounds incredible on. Finally, Emeli Sandé released I'll Get There (The Other Side) some time after her third album REAL LIFE was released in 2019, and it continued the trend of kind of touching on mental health (in the same vein as Shine, You Are Not Alone, Free as a Bird, etc). A beautiful song, but sadly it didn't stick around in my chart for long, declining quickly mostly due to other new songs pushing it down.

31 Little Mix - Happiness

32 Will Callan - Forgiving & Forgetting

33 Joshua Bassett - Anyone Else

34 Dua Lipa feat. DaBaby - Levitating

35 Shawn Mendes - Teach Me How to Love

Little Mix really brought it with the grats released before Confetti - the best of them all being Happiness. Happiness is probably my favourite song from the album now just after A Mess (Happy 4 U), and I was obsessed with it when it was released. It managed to stick around for a while in my chart, and became another hit for them in what's been a massively successful era for them (Break Up Song aside because that just did not click at all). More Will Callan, and now it's his highest song in the countdown. Forgiving & Forgetting was another PFSC entry for me and it managed to do relatively well; as well as in my chart too. It's a very groovy number from Will, and with the announcement that he's releasing a new song at midnight too, I'm hyped and hoping for something similar to this. Joshua Bassett's Anyone Else was pretty similar to Common Sense in that it was the same kinda vibe, but I feel like Anyone Else takes the sound and elevates it. This song is so good, and it's been great to see Joshua starting to break out - now with two #1s under his belt in my chart! Dua Lipa teamed up with DaBaby for the remix of Levitating, and like some other fan-fave songs from Future Nostalgia, this wasn't an immediate favourite for me, but now - particularly the remix - it's amazing! Such a bop, and continuing a trend of non-stop 10/10 singles from her. Finally, undoubtedly THE best song on Wonder, Shawn Mendes' Teach Me How to Love manages to make it all the way to #35 despite only having a month to make any impact before the EOY countdown - it went straight to #1 the week after Wonder's release in my chart, and has enjoyed a long run in the top 10 into 2021 - a massive bop that really needs to be a single at some point, although with the radio silence on the Wonder era now, maybe it's never going to happen.

26 Justin Bieber feat. Chance the Rapper - Holy

27 The Vamps - Better

28 The Pussycat Dolls - React

29 Flynn - One of Us

30 Troye Sivan - Easy

After Yummy and Intentions (more particularly the former) failed to set things alight during the Changes era, Justin took some time out then came back to us with Holy, featuring Chance the Rapper. This, for me, is definitely up there with some of his best singles. It's a beautiful song, has a catchy as hell chorus and is just overall pretty feel good. He's had a good year, and that's only continuing into 2021 with Anyone. The Vamps returned with their new era kicking things off with Married in Vegas, and it was a hit in my chart, however second single Better has since become my favourite of the era - I've only just watched the music video as I've typed up this commentary and omg I love it (Brad give us the legs and the general S E X). The song is just amazing though and I can't get enough of it. Everything that's good about The Vamps, but continues to develop their sound and style too. I'd never been a *massive* fan of PCD before their reunion in 2020 - obviously I knew of all their singles, but hadn't delved into their full discography, but React was a great re-introduction; a great song that I just wish had led to more new music from them. Hopefully it's just on hold for now and not off the cards completely. Flynn's One of Us was a surprise for me at the beginning of the year - introducing me to his fantastic voice and later in the year his EP which was a great way to kick-start his career. One of Us is just so epic and grand sounding, becoming a #1 hit in my chart. Finally, Troye Sivan's Easy is another chilled, breezy bop that was a great way to open the In a Dream era, and the Kacey Musgraves and Mark Ronson remix just elevated it even further.
