Baby Please Don't Stop not even breaking 10k and featuring at the end of this list is tragic.

Maybe not being huge is a crime !!!
'Maybe' is the only song of hers that I could hum a note of. That is pretty shockingly low sales for it even with the context of how low sales generally were at the time??

Believe it or not 68,000 in 2003 is fairly good for a Number 6 hit. It's just a shame it hasn't trickle sold more since then.

I quite like Free Me but as a lead single it is relatively bland, and I think that led to Maybe getting less attention than it deserved.

What Took You So Long is very melodic and catchy, get humming x

Maybe outperformed a few Top 5 hits from 2003. One example I have is Dannii Minogue - Don't Wanna Lose This Feeling (#5), but it had sold less than 37,000 in total by 2009. Sales really were in the doldrums!

As for Maybe's sales/streams in the years since, I suppose it is a slightly niche and mostly forgotten hit. Radio tends to stick with What Took You So Long if they're going to play an Emma song. Radio 2 played that 11 times last year (and already twice this year), but Maybe only once in 2020.

Most of Emma's catalogue has been hampered by awful representations on download and streaming sites. A lot of it was missing for a long time and what was there was at ridiculous prices. Even now half her music isn't on streaming sites around the world.

It is only very recently her totals have started to creep up in the UK thanks to properly being online.

I've just heard 'Free Me' (the song) for possibly the first time in 10-15 years and my god it's AWFUL.

I actually used to like it back then.

I guess you can't teach taste :teresa:

Free Me, the song, is gorgeous. Yes, it is left-field for a pop star like Emma, but it is a stunning song. Very sensual and inviting, with the strings really giving a 60s feel to it but with a modern tone. It's very well produced, written and beautifully sang.

It still stands today and her live version at the Royal Albert Hall was pure magic

Plus, an iconic video :w00t:

Facts!

I’d be interested to see Mel C’s singles sales. Liked some of Emma B’s singles particularly during the free me era.

I hated Free Me back then, but I've grown to like it a lot more these days. Maybe is still the best single from the album.

My favorite single of hers is TMBA though, airy breezy songs are where she shines best. I also love All I Need To Know which was a major flop

does anyone have her album sales?
All sales are in the spice forum, group and solo.
Relistened to Free Me and the vocals sound awful!! The solo Spices were huge for a couple years and then it all just fell off a cliff suddenly???
There can be many criticism of Emma, boring, safe but to ever call her vocals awful is not one of them. I don't think there are many artists with such a sweet and smooth voice. It's not the best or biggest voice but it's like butter.

I think Free Me is one of her strongest vocal performances ha, I didn't realise it was quite divisive.

If any of you are interested in knowing Spice group/solo album/singles sales, as vibe pointed out there is a chart and sales thread in the Spice Girls forum. Check it out here: http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=203971
