At #5 we have the infectious A Mess (Happy 4 U). This is such an earworm. It was instant enough to place it top half of the album, but it really creeps up your affections.
A mid-tempo, carefree, empowering banger. Jesy's middle-8 is an album highlight followed by Jade's soaring ad-libs through to the end of the song.
We stan.

Those ‘be fine’ type harmonies after the chorus are genuinely my favourite parts of the album.

I would have put it a place 1 or 2 places higher and had 'Confetti' lower... even 'Break Up Song' sorry not sorry.

a mess just gives me such "no more sad songs" teas and i LOOOOVE it. might not be as good but it echoes those v tears on the dancefloor moments that they are SO good at

At #4 is the title track from the album, Confetti. A song that many thought would be single worthy, however, due to it's instant add to Hot Hits UK on album release, releasing it as a single now would be pointless.
Even with a remixed feature, as it's VERY rare that Spotify re-adds songs to that playlist. It gives me slight Tinashe vibes in all honesty. It's got that dark, grungy, r&b feel to it and it works for them!
I hope they explore that side more and delve a bit further into that side of things on future projects. Not 00's r&b-pop (Salute/LM5), dark and grungey r&b please!

"Confetti" is way too high. I honestly don't see what other people see in it tbh, for me it's very weak, one of the worst on the album.

Confetti was a let down. It should have been more pop and colourful (like Power) with a better breakdown considering it’s imagery of confetti and celebrating, instead we got a rather laid back sexy club vibe instead.

 

 

I love Confetti's vibe - I don't think it was meant to be anything like Power? An easy Little Mix highlight for me. The top 4 songs in this rate are head and shoulders ahead of everything else on the album.

I like confetti but some of the lyrics make me cringe

 

'So DJ say my name like it's my birthday' in particular i've seen two youtubers laugh and wince at that line on their album reviews, and i don't watch many

03. BREAK UP SONG

At #3 we have the lead single from the era Break Up Song. The song went on to be a big hit for the girls and exactly the sort of hit they needed after the singles before it.
It kept up the very popular trend of 80's pop synths, with an underrated (and creative!) video. The chorus is the poppiest chorus they've not had since the 'Glory Days' era, which is why I think it resonated with the public. Insanely catchy and the melody is gorgeous!
The bridge is that euphoric kinda pop they used in 'Nothing Else Matters' & 'The Cure'. Just stunning. Such a fantastic single for the girls and I'm pleased to see that the fans all seemingly love it too! That jump in average from #4 is insane!

There we have it Happiness fails to topple the UK #1 smash. This track was made an instant grat the week after they released their first IG track 'Not A Pop Song'...

this one seemed to become an INSTANT highlight right off the bat, with comparisons being made to Ariana Grande - no tears left to cry and having a more British, very minor garage influence under it's typical pop structure.

What an absolute ANTHEM this is! A career highlight, let alone an era highlight. It's a shame the campaign likely won't continue because I could see this being a hit for the girls if given the push. Amazing song.

 

Sweet Melody is the 3rd single from the era and it went on to become their SIXTH UK #1 single earlier this year! The first number 1 of the year (depending if you

count 'Last Christmas' as this year or last... an argument can be made for both). This has been captioned by many to be "dark mix" and that seems to be the lane that if they want to be taken seriously in (not releasing outright bubblegum pop singles like

'Black Magic', 'Wings', 'Shout Out...' etc..). Drawing comparisons to 'Touch', it's easy to see why this has become the massive hit it currently is. All without clubs too! Can you imagine this song in a club!? HEAVEN!

The line: "He would lie, he would cheat, over syncopated beats" is a favourite. So slick and perfectly executed. Such a great line within the message of the song too. A great song and a very deserving winner. Apart from one 8 & one 9.5, everyone else gave it a 10!
