Well, it is good to finally see some modern British dance in the contest and it's good to see a British entry that doesn't sound out of date or boring to everyone aside from us.

Not really the type of thing I'd listen to if I had a choice but that it's clearly being done with the intentions of trying a bit elevates it in my eyes, I think it's worse than 'My Last Breath', I also think it's far more likely to do better in the contest.

As a song it certainly is pretty generic but I'm pleased we're sending this to Eurovision. I think it's better than his song last year and does at least seem like the sort of thing that could potentially go down well, definitely agree with the comments about it sounding like something Sigala would make which means I'm unlikely to revisit it much but it also shows a sound that doesn't feel horrendously out of touch like most of the UK's entries in recent years.
The production is very Sigala on a budget but it’s a decent effort. James in the video looks slightly awkward so I’m interested in how they will stage it.

It's good but I was expecting more when I saw y'all say it was dance. It doesn't really suit his voice though does it? It's the kind of song that I feel would be much better with a female vocal or at least not someone with such a deep raspy voice like James, maybe someone like Olly Alexander or MNEK could do it justice. I was hoping for something in the vein of "Paradise" (Dermot), "Lasting Lover" (James Arthur) or even "Feel The Love" (John Newman) as those are all excellent examples of deep voiced raspy male singers shining on dance tunes.

I'm fully open to having it grow on me in the coming months but as of right now it's just a 6/10 moment for me.

This is one of our best entries for a long time, but I can't see everyone jumping on it, just lacks something though, catchy chorus mind you.
It sounds very modern and what current UK pop sounds like. I think this represents UK really well. It is nonetheless a decent banger but the instrumentation is lacking a bit in the drop, probably lack of synths or bass, which makes the dancy feeling in this song rather incomplete. I would see how I feel on my first complete listen though.

I actually think this is bang-on what the UK needed to send to Eurovision, so I'm over the moon with this. It sounds British, it's modern, well-produced and his voice is perfect for it. My only note would be perhaps to change the bridge as the tone goes down after a higher verse and before the chorus which breaks the flow a little bit but that's only a small note.

I think it'll do really well in the televote - people will be looking for an uptempo after all this time and it's very catchy, but I also think it'll be a jury sweetheart: firstly because the UK is overdue a good song so they'll surely would gravitate towards that (see Portugal in 2017 which I'm sure had that factored in); and also songs in this vein have done very well recently (Guy Sebastian, Cesar Sampson and John Lundvik spring to mind).

They said the staging last year was impressive so I think they'll do something big for it again - can't see them just having James alone on stage with three trumpet players.

Girls, I think we're in for a hit this year!

Honestly, for me, this song doesn't come anywhere close to competing with those 3 though. Just not a patch on them, in terms of melody, structure or vocals. Particularly Guy and John's songs/performances.

I wish I had confidence that James could deliver a rousing performance of this, but I'm yet to see any charisma or performance ability from him. This song is going to need some spectacular staging to make an impact.

We don’t know what they’re going to pull out performance wise to say “it doesn’t compare to their performances”.

This sounds quite promising to me when it comes to the performance?

He doesn't need backing singers on stage this year so stick in a couple of dancers, a couple of people pretending to play instruments and hopefully that's enough to disguise any lack of charisma he may have.

I like it, but it's very "mid-table" in the rankings, to the point I'm not sure it's strong enough to pull in the "passion votes" and make people think "OOH! I want/have to vote for UK. It's SOOOOO good." I just can't see it giving strong feelings to people coz I can see it being one of those that is "just outside" everyone's top 10 or very middling/not enough to get on the scoreboard. Kinda nervous & low-key wouldn't be surprised if it gave us another bottom 5 for that reason. But I guess we'll have to wait and see what the performance does and hope it enhances it for people!

But as a song, it's definitely our strongest entry in a while and deserves to avoid our usual bottom half of the table results.

I'm confused my the muted reaction to this song to be honest. I have a feeling if this were by Australia, Russia or Sweden it would've been praised to high heavens and toped the odds to win at this point.
This is better than last year, I find the chorus a bit flat though. Good on him for this effort!

Still a bit shook that this is actually legit good! Agreed that this fits the brief of what Eurovision really ought to be about of sending a song that represents the type of music that your country does well or is really popular there. You can tell James is more at home in this genre of music too rather than the ploddy number last year.

I think people are being a little harsh on it in the thread so far tbh. Not sure how well this will do/if it will make the left hand side but if it doesn't perform very well it will at least seem that it ended up that way because of bad luck in a strong year rather than through lack of effort like we're used to.

It’s definitely a fun bop, I’d much rather be sending songs of this nature (whether they’re successful or not) rather than the middle of the road Radio 2 friendly songs that leave no impact.

Agreed!

From the last 10 years give me more Blue, Molly, Lucie & this!

This definitely sounds like something I'd hear on Radio 1 rather than Radio 2 so that's a good start! Not the sort of thing I'd usually listen to, but it's so much more current and trendy than anything I can recall in recent memory and I wouldn't think it too different to what's in the charts so I commend them for actually being on trend for once.

Too soon to say how it will do, it's not dead on arrival though so that's certainly looking better than usual, anywhere outside the bottom 10 would honestly be a real success given how well we've done recently (not that that'll be enough to stop the usual suspects saying Europe hates us and all if we don't finish top 5 minimum lol).
