Take me on a trip, DJ, free my mind

| 02 // Alice // 9.66

Taking the silver medal, it's also the second track on the album (or first official song~). 'Alice' is the perfect album opener. From the dramatic opera of the first interlude, we enter a warped, frenzied wonderland. A song about allowing music to set yourself free, what better message is there for an album whereby music is at the heart of the remedy to pain and angst. Referencing Alice in Wonderland, the song has a throbbing, pulsating beat that drives listeners through the portal into the other side. Lyrically, it seems as if Gaga is still searching for her safe place, or her "home" and it seems like it is through the music that she is able to find it. It features a roaring chorus and electrifying bridge section making it one of the most infectious and well-loved Gaga songs to date! On Spotify, Gaga stated: "In order to do hard things, we have to be willing to try. Sometimes trying involves dreaming. Some of us, I to be certain, must be able to imagine the greatness that's revealed within us when we overcome obstacles. Otherwise, what's the point? When we are sad, this is more difficult, but I recall that there's always Wonderland. Remember that old story about Alice?".

I'd rather be dry, but at least I'm alive

| 01 // Rain On Me // 10.00

Did this really just crash into the top spot with a perfect 10.00 score? Yes, of course it did. And why? Because it was the perfect song to lead into the album, released at the perfect time (in the middle of a global pandemic - offering us some sort of hope and sanity out of the pain that surrounded us) and in the most perfect fashion. A music video that showed off a beautiful relationship between the two stars, dancing through all of the pain and the heartache, a huge VMAs performance that stole the night and a song has that continued to cement Gaga's status as a leading pop female. A #1 in the UK and the US and racking sales and streams up continually ever since, it has gone on to be one of her biggest and most-beloved smashes. An anthem for many and as Gaga describes it, a "celebration of tears" - it is ok to be upset and cry and have heartache, as long as you keep going and fighting through the hardships. A totally joyous, empowering song filled to the brim with excitement and energy and positive vibes. It is officially your favouirte Chromatica song with that perfect average score! On Spotify, Gaga stated: "Sometimes I've thought I've cried so many tears that that's all I was anymore - a fountain for misery to cycle through. I'd rather that not be true, but at least I'm alive. I'm grateful for that. Tears can be teachers if we let them."

'Alice' is INCREDIBLE. That bridge section is one of the highlights of the entire album!

I am very happy at the winner though. It fully represents this era in its power to be uplifting despite the hard times being faced. It helped to define 2020 for me (as did the album as a whole) and I am so glad it became the mammoth hit it was and one of her biggest singles. Pure love.

That 10 score too though :cheeseblock:

10.00 *.*

Rain On Me is the right winner and I'm still not tiring of it no matter how much Heart FM decide to blast it. A big triumphant moment and another #1 hit single after we thought she was done after Telephone! A defining hit of 2020 for the gays and the general public!

Big love to Alice as well, my favourite of the album tracks, should've been a single and the perfect album opener! The classical into the isolated vocals into the 90's house beat drop is such an epic start and sums up this album perfectly as a party album! Really think Alice could've done things and kinda bridged the weird Gaga and pop Gaga sounds perfectly in comparison to Rain On Me and Stupid Love which are very commercial.

Thank you so much for hosting this Bal! Been following along all the way and your commentaries are a pleasure to read x

For what it's worth I think the album has better songs on it than 'Rain on Me', but it's undeniable. I can't wait to experience that on a proper dancefloor and jump at the drop like they do in the video.

That perfect score of 10 *.* I'm actually wearing my 'Rain On Me' shirt today so that's very fitting for the big reveal  my 11 so couldn't have asked for a better winner! Glad 'Babylon' finished as high as #3 also and 'Alice' is a very strong moment too... nice one, BuzzJack!

Thank you for doing this <3

Now I want ROM as the next runner-up and Alice at the top, although I think the results will be the opposite of that since Ariana's a buzzjack darling.

So predictable

On the whole they are decent results! The glaring anomolies with my own affections are Free Woman, 1000 Doves and Fun Tonight being a tad on the low side. But it's such an incredible album and the average scores reflect that <3

Thanks everyone for taking part!

I'm in agreement with most of the results actually! Just a bit eek that Plastic Doll was so far below the rest and that Chromatica II was ahead of a few of the standard album tracks  11th upwards I pretty much agree with bar a song a place too high or low here and there.
