I might try and make a banner for the voting thread but for now I don't have the inspiration so here's a cute cat GIF for you instead

Welcome all to everyone's favourite guitar-based song contest which seems to have accidentally turned into just an annual affair (not helped by me originally planning to host this in October but ending up delaying it a few times for various reasons). It's time for the thirteenth edition of Nuggets, hosted by yours truly following my stunning last minute victory back in May 2020 with 'Fall In Love' by Moaning (finally ending the curiosity of the Pop Forum Song Contest being the only genre forum song contest that I had won).

What is Nuggets you may ask (if you didn't participate in any of the previous twelve contests)? Well, it is one of BuzzJack's numerous song contests loosely based on the format of Eurovision, where we all gather together to share an unknown song we found digging through the treasure troves of the Internet and then vote for our favourites from everyone else's submissions to determine a single supreme winner.

Ah but there are a few restrictions on the songs that you can send. First and most importantly, the major gimmick that makes this a different contest to Unknown Pleasures, your entry must be a guitar-based song. You're not restricted on genre, year or (as some will no doubt take advantage of) song length as long as we get some of those sweet riffs.

Some other guidelines (as I will have to run any entries I receive past the approval of our overlords SevenSeize and WhoOdyssey who have veto power over anything deemed inappropriate for the contest):

1) don't send anything that has appeared in the UK chart (definitely not the singles chart and preferably not the albums chart either) - this is a music discovery contest, we want songs here that are as obscure as possible (or at least likely to be new to a majority if not all other participants)

2) you can't send a song that's appeared in a previous edition of Nuggets (there's a list of songs from Nuggets 1-11 here and the Nuggets 12 song list is here), and it's probably also best to avoid anything that's previously appeared in our other esteemed song contests BJSC and Unknown Pleasures (lists of songs that have appeared in those can be found here and here, although I think the latter is a little out of date)

3) artists are first come first serve - if you confirm a song or artist that someone else has already sent I'll contact you asking for a replacement

4) this contest is anonymous so don't go leaking to other people what your song is - all will be revealed in the results thread

With all that spiel out of the way let the Nuggets commence! To confirm your participation just drop a PM to me with the name of your song and a link for it (preferably from YouTube or SoundCloud, I trust someone will helpfully create a Spotify playlist separately x).

You all have about week to submit your song so setting the deadline for 23:59 GMT on Wednesday 10th February, 2021 (that's not going to be a super strict deadline, I'll accept slightly late entries but I will be hopefully putting up the voting thread on the evening of Thursday 11th if our indie mod overlords give me the green light to). After that there'll be a period of a little under 2 weeks to vote (I am planning to do the results on Thursday 25th February).

Confirm away! :jump: This contest is open to anyone who wants to participate whether it's your first time (in fact I strongly encourage first time participants) or your 13th (which I think is only me and Iz).

Confirmed participants so far (29):

I've got a couple of ideas for my own entry here (some of which cross over with songs I am considering for BJSC x) but not committed to a particular song yet.
First time entering, watch me get it spectacularly wrong
Have 2 to pick for this edition. I might reserve the other one for BJSC prolly

Yay for already getting at least one first time entrant! We love to see it :jump:

Just noticed a former Kathaldazia top 15 BJSC entry was sent to this recently. Flash Republic - Twister and nobody remembered it? :selena: It going top 10 on Nuggets 10 years later proving Kathaldazia's curse (and relevance) isn't a myth!

That was me, I wasn't on Buzzjack at the time and didn't bother to do a search

The amount of taste on display though

I did point it out when the thread went up at the time! I think there was like 1 or 2 people in that contest who were also in BJSC when you sent it there iirc tbf ~

Welcome back to one of the original Nuggets participants Severin! (Seems to be a return after previously only entering the first 2 editions?)

Up to 15 entries already  will send a list of the songs I've got so far to be reviewed by the indie mods probably some time tomorrow ~
