February 7, 20214 yr I highly recommend this documentary. I haven't stopped thinking about it since I finished watching it tbh. Even for those who aren't sold on the idea behind the #FreeBritney movement, I'd recommend it!
February 7, 20214 yr I love this documentary so much. How they used old interview clips to show the bigger picture - it was ok for these creepy older men to sexualise Britney, but when she tries to take ownership of her own sexuality suddenly she’s responsible for everything wrong in America. Really can’t stand Diane Sawyer and Matt Lauer for how they treated Britney, as if she didn’t deserve any respect whatsoever. The fact that these “journalists” needed to pick on a young girl like that... it really would never happen nowadays and I’m glad most people at least now see the ridiculousness of it. It made me so emotional, I guess because it’s so satisfying to see the public finally admit they were so wrong about Britney, and it’s contributed to her being stuck in this horrible situation. I was 7 in 2007 and even then I knew how they treated her was so wrong and that this would never happen to a man. Like somebody in the documentary said, that’s exactly why Britney and her gay fans have such a special connection. It’s interesting that they never mentioned Lou Taylor. Just shows how careful they have to be with how they approach this subject, they can’t claim anything (no matter how obvious it seems) without proof, and they did a great job at painting the picture with just legal documents and Instagram posts. I really teared up at the end when they played one of Britney’s Instagram videos. I wonder if this really was Project Rose.Agreed! It's crazy to me that they were ever able to get away with it when it was just... so OBVIOUS!? I assume this happened a lot to famous women and peaked with Britney/the rise of the internet etc.. but it's really harrowing and disgusting to see just HOW much they got away with (and even more disturbing knowing how young Britney was). They should all be ashamed of themselves and should give written apologies. Like this clip... @1358167648165584898 VILE. Same about the Insta posts that they used in the documentary and I am a believer that this was indeed, #ProjectRose . I also agree with this Tweet... @1358142493099966467
February 7, 20214 yr I too believe this is project rose! I've met Fe and she is the sweetest person on earth and you can tell how much she loves Britney. I've had two M&G's with Britney and she is honestly such a sweetheart and I had an amazing experience with her both times. I hate how they tried to push Fe out, at my M&G in 2018 Robin was there (Britney's 'new' assistant who is best friends with Lou Taylor) and she was SO cold and regimented and the total opposite of Fe. I wonder if they asked Britney's bf to take part? I find it strange they didn't comment in the credits that they didn't reach out to him, unless him or Fe told the director to include Roses?
February 7, 20214 yr @1358257012023455746  --- Also... it looks like Sam got asked by Brit (or he gave his phone/account to Brit) to make a post thanking fans for their support (the story has since been deleted): @1358291175740997632 They def approve of the doc, right?
February 7, 20214 yr I literally just finished watching this and feel so many emotions, that I don't really know where to start.. Let me first say that Felicia is an absolutely legend <3 The rest was all just painful. Basically right from the start with the sexist media ('are you a virgin?' 'everyone is talking about your breasts') HOW was this even possible, and don't get me started on that awful Matt Lauer douchebag. The way everyone fell over her parenting style is, looking back, insane. I was 15 around the time and didn't really understand much of it, but seeing it all back. Wow. Every parent makes mistakes, they acted as if she assaulted her kids. The paparazzi guys, including the ones who were interviewed, are total and utter scumbags and should all be in jail. Justin Timberlake is a massive twat and I have no words for the awful person that is Jamie Spears.
February 7, 20214 yr If there is anyone who wants to watch this but don't have a link/struggle to find one, hit me or Slayer up. We have one!
February 7, 20214 yr Is this going to be broadcast in the U.K.? I’d like to watch it but rely on subtitles / captions as I am deaf.

I've checked the link I have and unfortunately there isn't an option for subtitles </3 It's been put on Hulu though, so hopefully when Disney Star (an extension of Disney+ - so if you have Disney+ you *should* be able to get it) arrives in Europe later this month, it'll be on there?

February 7, 20214 yr Author Just watched it and it was hard to watch... We definitely didn't deserve her. Can't wait for the day when she speaks out.

February 8, 20214 yr I watched this twice last night (first time by myself, second time with my mum). The documentary did a brilliant job of explaining the entire situation (even after all these years, I was still confused about conservatorships, but I have a much better understanding now). A lot of what Britney went through in the earliest years of her career is beyond shocking. The way some journalists spoke down to her was really quite disgusting. For instance, Diane Sawyer having the audacity to confront Britney with a quote about someone wanting to shoot her, showing Britney absolutely no empathy? What the hell! So cruel. I don't think Britney was advised very well in certain moments of her career. I don't think she gained anything at all from doing those two sit down interviews with Diane Sawyer or Matt Lauer... it clearly distressed her, and public opinion at the time was judgemental and I'm sure those interviews only added to it. The way the paparazzi was allowed to behave during the 00s decade... it's insane to look back on the footage. I was 18/19 in 2006/7 when it was at its worst levels for Britney. I didn't check out sites like Perez or TMZ, so I didn't see most of the filmed footage of paparazzi swarming her, so I didn't quite get an appreciation at the time just how horrendous it was for Britney. So to me, her downward spiral seemed quite sudden, and it was very upsetting to see her on the front pages of newspapers - such as with the umbrella, bashing the car. Of course those reports at the time completely lacked context. They framed Britney as having a mental breakdown and that she was completely out of control, very sensationalist, but now it's completely understandable that she was at her wits' end with paparazzi (like that man who was interviewed), following her and speaking to her like they did. How the media and some of the general public responded to Britney's troubles in 2007/8, as if it was something hilarious, rather than concerning, is vile. The clip of "what has Britney lost" on that game show... horrible. It wouldn't happen now. The conservatorship, in terms of who is in charge and what their motivations are, is sketchy and iffy. It is incredibly curious that Britney, who was a very productive popstar for the first 10 years of the conservatorship, was deemed necessary to be under it. Like Felicia said, I look forward to the day that Britney is able to tell things from her perspective, should she choose to. Speaking of Felicia, how precious is she? I'm glad she was a part of the documentary, to give us some stories that further emphasised how sweet and kind Britney is. You could tell her much pride and love Felicia has for Britney. I'm glad Britney had her friendship over the years. I also appreciated that the support of the fans was portrayed in a respectful way - demonstrating the genuine concern we have for her wellbeing. I'm sure a lot of people thought people behind #FreeBritney were a bit nuts last year, but I think the documentary showed it for what it is - people being compassionate. Anyway... I really hope there's a light at the end of the tunnel. Despite her truly unique situation, I hope Britney is feeling healthy and happy.
February 8, 20214 yr this documentary really has brought '#FreeBritney and We Love Britney Spears to the forefront of social media. I'm not sure i've ever seen such kindness about her on social media... maybe except when she donated money to people during covid.
February 8, 20214 yr Saw this yesterday and it made for quite uncomfortably watching... she really has been treated appallingly by those around her.
February 9, 20214 yr Britney's new video was CLEARLY referencing the documentary! The Director posted this shortly after: @1358914278238027776
February 9, 20214 yr LMAO!! "I was rooting for Kansas City, but I was also rooting for the other team so..." I love her :') EDIT: Also... not her saying "last week" :') Sis, the Superbowl was just last night. We know what you are doing!!!
February 9, 20214 yr it makes it just as ambigous... tho i'm really curious at this point why she's not allowed to speak about the conservership when she openly discussed it in 2016 on Jonathan Ross. Part of me wonders if shes waiting to do a big tell-all interview. There's a US lawyer whose emailed 100+ LA solicitors to sign a petition or something to contact Judge Penny to end the conservership based on the evidence in the documentary... which is mad. So it really comes down to whatever is in her medical report that nobody but Jamie has seen.
February 9, 20214 yr it was very curious to me that they seemingly swept over the fact that kevin wouldn’t let jamie near the kids or that britney called and left a voicemail saying that she was scared of her father + that he’s threatened to take away the rights to her children. to me, that’s the biggest clue as to why she’s keeping quiet. he has threatened her this whole time with taking the kids away, which is why she stays quiet + conforms. i believe once they are adults, she will have nothing to lose + begin to fight back. the kids can also fight for her - that’s what she’s waiting for.
February 9, 20214 yr what is k fed's thoughts on all of this? surely he should be used as a witness of some sort. the free britney is getting stronger and stronger every month.
