There's a 6/25 date written at the bottom of the map in the post above. Based on that, I'm inclined to think of the following scenario.

 

• Lead single: 5/28

• Album: 6/25

 

That date is definitely a hint and an album makes more sense than a single in my opinion.

Just watched some of Ed’s Big weekend set and he said the first single was supposed to be out already and was going to be performing it but it wasn’t ready in time.

Ed has said on Radio 1 today that his new single sounds "really different" and that his next tour will feature a full live band for the first time!

maybe that means it will be more rock?

The video was shot, but Ed said that there were still some unfinished details, hence the reason why he didn't perform the first single because it points out that he wants to drop the song and the video simultaneously or within a few hours of each other.

I like how Ed has jumped on the Friends bandwagon. The snippet does sound promising though so I’m looking forward to hearing it.

I do think there is a potential he won't do as well, Everglow came and went pretty quickly. We will see.
