Some news from Russia about film.

Yesterday our theater (around 80 people in total) was 90% occupied while the quantity of theaters which show the movie are dissapearing after 3 weeks - it's OK.

Until Thursday 15 theaters in Moscow show the film. Since Thursday there will be 5 theaters. Since Dec-22 - 3 theaters.

So it means I can admit that during 1 month the movie is still here :)

In Saint-Petersburg 10 theaters show the movie this week.

Also I calculated that there are also 40 cities (I even don't know some of names - it's Far East)) show Better Man this week: 1-2 screenings per day.

---

Still no official Box Office results for any movies during last 2-3 weeks (maybe because we had a lot of winter holidays) so can't say anything.

Mojo gives some results but I prefer to wait until internal results.

We can't give a big money to the film (already explained why) but we will do what we can.

There are 4 new nominations at the Visual Effects Society Awards.

These are alredy 40th, 41st, 42nd and 43rd nominations for the best movie of 2024 Better Man, produced by Robbie Williams himself and directed by Michael Gracey.

And this is another nomination for WETA studios what gave the world films like The Lord Of The Rings, Avatar, etc. Good luck to all nominees.

*seems that's a style of all speeches at those moments?* ;)

The nominations for the 23rd Visual Effects Society Awards have been revealed and in the feature film categories Dune: Part Two leads with seven nominations including the top award, Outstanding VFX in a Photoreal Feature. It’s closely followed by a pair of monkey movies, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, with six nominations, and Better Man, with four noms. All are on the Academy shortlist for the Visual Effects Oscar.

They are joined by Mufasa: The Lion King (three nominations) and Twisters (two nominations) in the main category, and also Oscar shortlisted. Fellow shortlisted films receiving nominations today include Civil War (Outstanding Supporting VFX, Environment) and Gladiator II (Environment VFX of Rome, model of the Colosseum), which received two VES noms apiece; and Alien: Romulus, Deadpool & Wolverine and Wicked, which collected one VES nom apiece.

In the last 10 years, the winner of the top category for Outstanding Visual Effects in a Photoreal Feature has gone on to win the Visual Effects Oscar three times. Once during that time, that Academy Award went to the winner of the VES Outstanding Supporting Visual Effects award (2018’s First Man).

Nominees were selected by VES members at judging events held in-person in various cities around the world, as well as virtually with Los Angeles judging conducted virtually due to the L.A. fires.

Winners are currently scheduled to be revealed February 11 during a live-streamed event at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

I hear on the radio that there is a strong possibility that the OSCARS will not go ahead this year , they are saying that it would be in bad taste due to the current disaster in LA ...

Can they not hold it in another US city?

Having read this I can see why it might be in bad taste. However, waiters and ridiculous gift bags were already in bad taste to me prior.

Unpopular opinion: I have been reading the comments by the Americans, I know I should know better!, but they do raise a good point.

If he is this international superstar they have all missed out on, why has the box office been so low overseas?

People are tending to struggle to provide an answer to that and a lot of the discourse quietens down after from his fans.

Also, I don't agree with the above, in the past the BAFTAs were accused of bias towards British actors/actresses/films winning. However, people will assume this regardless in any country were awards are given to nationals nominated.

Everything is a fix to some.

It’s not a British film, it’s an Australian film.

And they didn’t heavily promote it for BAFTA consideration - all of the awards-promotion effort was in North America.

As for why it hasn’t done great box office internationally? It’s the monkey.

It just doesn’t look good in the advertising.

I think I can answer that - because - you are a global superstar to your fans and you only need a few hundred thousand fans to buy tickets across a lot of countries to make a successful sold out tour and to make an album number one in the charts. It doesn't mean the rest of the population thinks anything of you - especially 35 years into a career. Movies need the general public to buy into it - not just fans.

I guess his facts and figures which we as fans all know over the years, speak for themselves as to why he is a global superstar. I certainly wouldn't go on a US site and defend him -I love him as a man and his music. I don't need anybody else to agree with me.

The movie is brilliant -I'm going a second time next week with my daughter (if it's still on and I know she will love it).

I really, really hope it wins some award for the technical wizardry as it's so brilliant.

Anyone who doesn't give it a fair chance just to see if it's any good, is ignorant in my book. I've seen so many posts from people who went to it on a whim and came out loving the movie. We just need a few more of them.

I have read hundreds & hundreds & hundreds of positive reviews on social media & a huge amount of those were Americans who had just seen the movie, they liked it for what it was . I did not see any of those that saw it saying they liked it because Robbie is an international superstar, they liked it because it is actually a very good movie that stands up on its own as being really creative & different & those that made it were thinking outside the box & I say good on them for doing so.
