11. Cyndi Lauper - Time After Time

Average score - 7.264

Writers - Cyndi Lauper, Rob Hyman

Top scores : 10 - Nick F1, Bjork, StoneDragon, Mango, Scene, Mack, Borza, Ansel, Campbell, Adelita

Low scores : 3 - Jason, Shaky1981, jszmiles, Dot Branning

Despite 'Girls Just Want To Have Fun' being a big hit, its follow-up struggled to make an impact, spending four weeks outside the top 50 in March 1984 and then dropping out of the chart. After the song reached number 1 in the US in June, it re-entered the top 100. The title was inspired by a film called 'Time After Time' that Cyndi had seen in a TV guide.

From 2004, this was the first of nine top 40 hits for the Scottish band.

i thought life on mars was going to win
I think if Radio 2 ran a poll similar to this, Life On Mars would be the most likely song to win it.

I think Dua Lipa would win in a similar Radio 1 poll. ;) :P

Also think Dua Lipa is the last one from the 21th century left in this, right?

'Time After Time' is just beautiful, I've always loved it  I quite like the garage version from the early 2000s by Distant Soundz too, if anyone remembers that!

Yes remember that! Love Time After Time.

I also thought Life on Mars was a strong contender.

I have to say I do hope Dua doesn’t win this - much as I do really like Physical I don’t think it’s quite up there with some of the other classics.

7. Roxette - It Must Have Been Love

Average score - 7.481

Top scores 11 - Simon, 10 - Grandwicky, Nick F1, dandy*, Bjork, Mango, Tawdry Hepburn, AaronTM, JackJones, Campbell

Low scores : 4 - Jason, Shaky1981, 4.5 - rio309

The first version of this was a Christmas song, It Must Have Been Love (Christmas For The Broken Hearted), released only in Sweden in 1987. It was re-recorded with Christmas references taken out in 1990 and featured on the soundtrack to the film 'Pretty Woman'. The song returned to the top 10 in 1993 after the film was shown on TV for the first time.

That's a strong top 6, with four left in from my first round votes, and all songs I like a lot (although I have preferences).

In the previous couple of these polls, nothing from before 1975 even made the top 50, so it goes without saying that Life On Mars did very well to make 10th this time (likewise the even older You Can't Hurry Love in 27th).

'Insomnia' - what a banger! Such a seminal record.

I've got so much love for 'It Must Have Been Love' too (although I could never love a Roxette song more than 'Listen To Your Heart').

Glad both songs finished this high :D

From 1983, this was one of four top 40 hits for the Los Angeles band and the only one to reach the top 10. The song has had a revival in recent years and has been described as "the internet's favourite song".

Can't argue with the top ten so far, all pretty good!
