Yay for Shania Twain going out too, hugely overrated song and I've always felt like it's just me that thinks that x

I totally agree! Neither that or 'S&M' are huge losses although I do wish 'Doctor Pressure' had done better :(

47. Enigma - Return To Innocence

Average score - 5.924

Top scores : 10 - Shoat, dandy*, AH Gold, Borza, Campbell

Three years after their number 1 single, this was the German group's second top 40 hit. The drum beat was sampled from 'When The Levee Breaks' by Led Zeppelin while the chant is a drinking song recorded by two of the Amis people of Taiwan when they were on a cultural exchange in Paris. They later made a successful claim for credits and royalties.

45. Goo Goo Dolls - Iris

Average score - 6.038

Writer - John Rzeznik

Top scores : 10 - Bjork, Borza, JackJones, Dot Branning

Low scores : -1 - Grandwicky, 0 - Mack, 2 - George.keh, Jason, Shaky1981

Taken from the soundtrack to the film 'City Of Angels', this only got to number 50 when it was released in 1998. It re-entered the chart in 1999, 2006 and 2008, reaching a peak of number 26. It was finally a top 3 hit in 2011 after being performed by someone on the X Factor.

Return To Innocence did well to get this far so that's about where I expected it, Who Do You Love Now is fine too but Iris is the biggest loss so far, feels like it's finished a bit too low.
'Return To Innocence' still sounds good now, it's got that anthemic feel. WDLYN was good but Dannii's done better since then. 'Iris' feels like it was the 'Chasing Cars' of the 90s, such a radio staple.

43. Ian Van Dahl - Castles In The Sky

Average score - 6.217 (more 10s)

Writers - Erik Vanspauwen, Christophe Chantzis, Martine Theeuwen

Top scores : 10 - Jester, Chez Wombat, jimwatts, danG

Low scores : 0 - RabbitFurCoat, 1 - chartjack2, rio309, Dante77, Shaky1981, Adelita

The main melody and the lyrics for this one were written by the singer, Martine Theeuwen, who is better known as Marsha but it's not her singing in the video. The Belgian group went on to have a total of six top 30 hits with each one peaking at a lower position than the one before.

A little too low for Enigma but tbf I'm a little surprised they even made it this far!

Top scores : 11 - chrissmith276, 10 - marcinjaro, Chapman, Scene

This entered the singles chart two weeks after The Hills but reached number 3 two months before The Hills did. It was a number 1 single for The Weeknd in his home country of Canada as well as the US.

Lots of good songs dropping out here, particularly Budapest and Can't Feel My Face but at least the latter made it into the top 40 number 3s.

39. Delerium featuring Sarah McLachlan - Silence

Average score - 6.33

Writers - Bill Leeb, Rhys Fulber, Sarah McLachlan

Top scores : 11 - Shoat, Chapman, 10 - dandy*, Bjork, Tawdry Hepburn, brokenrecords, AH Gold, jszmiles, Borza, JackJones, danG

Low scores : 0 - detonate, 1 - Jason, Shaky1981, Adelita

The original version of Silence only reached number 73 in 1999. It was this remix that propelled the song into the top 3 the following year. The Canadian group had three further top 40 hits (one of which was an updated version of Silence) but none of them peaked higher than number 32. Sarah McLachlan had one other solo top 20 single.
