Interesting that not many got Candy Girl, I wonder if a lot of them have just never heard it - if that's the case they're lucky, it's irritating

Definitely, some of them feel like they would have been non-#1s if they had got there but A Design For Life and Your Love Alone Is Not Enough both deserved better!

Ouch! Didn’t know they were cursed with the runners up slot on the albums chart too.

So that's what #16 was  I don't recall the intro being played on TOTP so possibly haven't heard it since... 1990?

That was also my guess at least correctly guessed, oops

Just catching up on the results!

I was torn whether to pick New Rules or a song yet to come as the most correctly guessed and went for the latter in the end! Damn. Otherwise pleased with my performance.

That other track was Dreamer, think I redeemed myself there!

cannot recall how Candy Girl goes :D or that Olly Murs song either (not a fan) :D

I watched it just the other day and the intro was definitely played!

Yes - I wasn’t happy at having to sit through Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie at #1 three times in the TOTP reruns!

The original in 1960 was bad enough yet somehow the cover managed to be worse.

in the mid 00s the Manics had three #2s in a row (Richard Nixon-Empty Souls-Your Love Alone), so very Sash :D

Of the three I think Your Love Alone deserved #1 the most. TLORN is one of those songs i've heard a few times and still can't remember how it goes, Empty Souls is better but still not one of their best.

NOOO I put 'Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini' and then changed it to 'Always On My Mind'?! Should've double checked, I've been watching TOTP 1990 as well :( grr  hooray for getting the rest of those at least.

Actually you put "? Take That - no idea lol"

21. Busted - Year 3000

And now we have the red herring - Busted's second single about building a time machine and travelling into the future to meet naked triple-breasted women only made it as far as number two. Well done to the 22 of you who correctly identified it as the red herring!

Correct guesses (24/28):

chrissmith276, Mack., donnahjaneymack, coi, StoneDragon, dan::G, Dobbo, jimwatts, Nina West, rio309, Jade, paulgilb, JulianT, Jester, CJK, Chez Wombat, Ansel, LewisGT, Bjork, dj_tim_e, Dot Branning, awardinary, Juranamo, dandy*

Incorrect guesses:

PeteFromLeeds, n4yr, vibe

Half marks:

Riser (Busted - Crashed The Wedding)

22. Carly Rae Jepsen - Call Me Maybe

Another very recognisable intro from another very under-rated pop queen!

Correct guesses (25/28):

chrissmith276, Mack., donnahjaneymack, coi, StoneDragon, dan::G, Dobbo, jimwatts, Nina West, Jade, paulgilb, n4yr, JulianT, Jester, CJK, Chez Wombat, Riser, Ansel, LewisGT, Bjork, dj_tim_e, Dot Branning, awardinary, Juranamo, dandy*

Incorrect guesses:

rio309, PeteFromLeeds, vibe

23. Iron Maiden - Bring Your Daughter... To The Slaughter

Quite a tricky one, and one of the few pure rock songs to make number one in the UK. Interestingly, quite a few of the incorrect guesses were McFly, specifically 'I'll Be OK'.

Correct guesses (12/28):

chrissmith276, donnahjaneymack, coi, StoneDragon, Dobbo, Nina West, rio309, n4yr, JulianT, Dot Branning, awardinary, dandy*

Incorrect guesses:

Mack., dan::G, jimwatts, Jade, PeteFromLeeds, paulgilb, Jester, CJK, Chez Wombat, Riser, Ansel, LewisGT, Bjork, dj_tim_e, vibe, Juranamo

24. Pet Shop Boys - Always On My Mind

The 1987 Christmas number one and one of the PSB's best remembered singles, I'm actually surprised more people didn't get this.

Correct guesses (18/28):

chrissmith276, donnahjaneymack, coi, StoneDragon, dan::G, jimwatts, Nina West, Jade, paulgilb, n4yr, JulianT, Jester, CJK, Ansel, Bjork, dj_tim_e, awardinary, dandy*

Incorrect guesses:

Mack., Dobbo, rio309, PeteFromLeeds, Chez Wombat, Riser, LewisGT, Dot Branning, vibe, Juranamo

25. Black Legend - You See The Trouble With Me

Last but not least we have another 90s dance classic, with an intro that's basically just a load of applause!

Correct guesses (19/28):

chrissmith276, donnahjaneymack, coi, StoneDragon, dan::G, Dobbo, jimwatts, Nina West, rio309, Jade, paulgilb, JulianT, Jester, Ansel, LewisGT, Bjork, dj_tim_e, awardinary, dandy*

Incorrect guesses:

Mack., PeteFromLeeds, n4yr, CJK, Chez Wombat, Riser, Dot Branning, vibe, Juranamo

Scores coming next!

Great choice there going for Iron Maiden but wow I have never thought the intro to I'll Be OK sounded like Bring Your Daughter To The Slaughter
Actually you put "? Take That - no idea lol"

Oh wait I remember now!!

I had a quick listen through in the background first before jotting down any answers and remember hearing 'Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini'

Then re-listened again, somehow didn't spot it second time and thought I'd confused that and 'Always On My Mind' and didn't go back to it so just put a random answer!

Well that is annoying.

Disappointed that I didn't get Iron Maiden either as I love pointing out that and Enigma being wildly different number #1s back to back

Not that familiar with Iron Maiden's hits, I'm not sure I've even heard Bring Your Daughter from start to finish before, but still annoyed I didn't even consider that!

To be fair once the guitars kick in in 'I'll Be OK', there is a resemblance to 'Bring Your Daughter' so it wasn't the most ludicrous guess!

wow never had guessed Iron Maiden!!

really thought that was gonna be the least guessed :D

True actually! :o
