June 17, 20241 yr Author ‘saving flowers’ has been playlisted by Radio 1. Yay, praying for it to become a summer smash! Sounds so good in the sunshine rn.
June 17, 20241 yr Yay, praying for it to become a summer smash! Sounds so good in the sunshine rn. Hopefully it advances past the C-list - his two songs to make the playlist so far haven’t. I think ‘system’ is still my favourite from the album so far but all three songs are great. Looks like there will be another song coming this week too going by the descripton of Jack Saunders’ show on Thursday.
June 20, 20241 yr Author @1802313548657287420 *.* v much here for a Jessie Ware x salute collab Enjoying all the singles so far, looking forward to the album which I feel is going to be something special - just 3 weeks to go now!
July 9, 20241 yr I really can’t wait for this to drop on Friday. I’ve got a new found love for ‘saving flowers’ after hearing it a fair bit on Radio 1 recently.
July 12, 20241 yr The Disclosure collab is my favourite release from this era since 'saving flowers', banger alert *.* looking forward to checking out the album in full 🧡
July 12, 20241 yr ‘lift off’ is indeed great. It’s hottest record tonight on Radio 1. I’ve given the album two listens and it’s as amazing as I was expecting. ‘reason’, ‘go!’ and ‘one of those nights’ are the standouts from the new tracks.
July 13, 20241 yr 'lift off' is 90% Disclosure 10% salute... and I love it It sounds very salute to me  This album is just relentless! LOVE IT. I see it's tagged as "speed garage" on AOTY
July 13, 20241 yr Listened earlier and found it very samey - I like most of the things I’ve heard individually but can’t see me ever listening in its entirety again
July 14, 20241 yr Bookending the weekend on Radio 1 having the Hottest Record on Friday and then the Chillest Record later today
July 14, 20241 yr Bookending the weekend on Radio 1 having the Hottest Record on Friday and then the Chillest Record later today Guessing that’s with either ‘softly’ or ‘drive’
July 14, 20241 yr Gave the album its first listen this afternoon. I'm not sure if I'll often return to it but it was definitely worth the listen. It is an enjoyable body of work but I think perhaps the pacing is a little off? Jumping around from speed garage to more chilled out tracks and back again. The run of maybe it's u/go!/true magic/one of those nights is a whiplash and a half. move faster... could do with being well, um, faster but as a lead into system it works fine. lift off! does sound more Salute than Disclosure, in fact I'd believe you if you told me Disclosure weren't involved  Highlights: start/saving flowers - love that intro mixing into the full track *.* go! - just isn't long enough though true magic, bonus round - what a bonkers interlude! system - an outright banger perfect - great little garage number and very catchy, possibly my favourite of the album tracks actually drive - that drop around the minute mark got me Quite surprised there are very few critical reviews of it though? A 5/5 from NARC. Magazine (?) is all I could find. I do wonder how it'll fair chart-wise with a lack of exposure other than Radio 1. It's nowhere to be seen on the main iTunes chart nor the Dance and Electronic subgenres but it is on the overall homepage.
July 15, 20241 yr I don’t agree with the samey comment - the fact he had hottest record on Friday and chillest record yesterday just highlights that it’s quite a varied album while still having that salute sound throughout. In terms of whiplash, I think swapping ‘system’ and ‘maybe it’s u’ around would help to negate that. Apart from that, I think the album flows well. It starts very quick and the tempo peaks with ‘go!’ (which I agree needs to be longer) and then gradually drops in intensity across the last four - with ‘drive’ being the perfect last song. If I was ranking the album in order from best to worst: system saving flowers lift off! maybe it’s u one of those nights go! reason softly drive luv stuck move faster… perfect It’s only really the last three that haven’t clicked for me properly yet. There’s a big drop from ‘drive’ to ‘luv stuck’.
July 15, 20241 yr Author ^Agreed- it's actually refreshingly varied. Those are my favourite 3 from the album too. I found it such a fun listen throughout, I enjoyed it all - the whole thing is just brimming with joy and optimism. It sounds very salute to me  This album is just relentless! LOVE IT. I see it's tagged as "speed garage" on AOTY That's probably the main genre here, but there's def elements of French House in there I think. Wish French House would come back in a big way!
July 15, 20241 yr Finally a proper music critic review. Clash gave it a 8/10 :cheer: https://www.clashmusic.com/reviews/salute-true-magic/ "Despite its house-in-the-countryside origins, ‘TRUE MAGIC’ refuses to settle in one place. Ignoring boundaries and blending oppositional flavours, salute’s escape to the country provides points of connection that ignite into some of their best work to date. "
