Thanks for posting! That was an enjoyable read.

It still blows my mind that they were ever on such shaky ground regarding getting a chance to progress to album 2… until Jump reassured the powers that be that it was worth continuing on with Girls Aloud. Thank goodness things worked out as they did!

Interesting to know that Wicked Game was intended to lead a reissued WWTNS back then. At least I don’t think we ever had confirmation that a reissue was a plan back then. I wonder if it would have been a good idea to get more sales out of that era before moving on to Chemistry?

I know right... I mean, I know the album wasn't a blockbuster seller but it was far from a flop and every single thing they'd released had gone top 3. Surely they must have seen the potential there to build on it? (Although like you say, thank heavens they did!)

#22 in today's mids, might be touch and go as to whether ity stays top 40?

'Sound of the Underground' was #21 on the Wednesday update so 'Neighbours' is literally one place behind again. I fear this is destined to just miss out on the Top 40 as well! :(

It will be frustrating if it misses Top 40 but I can live with that as long as the sales are better than the debut all this extra effort for this release definitely warrants selling more copies
Oh damn, would have loved Top 40 but looks like probably 45-50ish region I think
Copied from PopJustice. Will give a read later!

Just read this - fantastic and so insightful!

I wrote about the album on my blog this week as well if anyone wants to read: https://wp.me/p4UO9N-2Vc

I've so loved reimmersing myself in this album era again. It's such a perfect reissue! And I love the unreleased gems we've gotten as well.

Finished reading that article too and loved it! This is the sort of pop insight I crave! I'd love them to do this for their other albums - I want to know more about their version of 'Made of Glass' that was written in the 'Chemistry' sessions but was recorded by Kylie instead.

Agreed! I guess it wasn't just about chart performance, it was also perceptions of the girls' image and not yet distinguishing their own personalities; would this be a band people wanted to buy into long-term?

Shocked to discover they were in any danger at the end of The Sound of The Underground era.

We can be thankful the right decisions were made.

:cheer: so glad that it held on to the Top 40! That’s what I wanted to see, it outperforming Sound of the Underground. :D

From Music Week:

Girls Aloud’s second studio album, What Will The Neighbours Say?, reached No.6 in 2004, and re-enters at No.35 (2,925 sales) after being released in a number of new editions, while Kylie Minogue’s ninth studio album, Body Language – No.6 in 2003 – re-enters at No.34 (2,943 sales) after being released on vinyl for the first time. Cumulative sales: What Will The Neighbours Say? – 618,569, and Body Language – 407,731.

Thrilled it stayed Top 40!

Pleased to see it stayed top 40! That's amazing news 👏🏻 ☺️

How funny, that is the exact same amount of copies that Sound of the Underground sold last year in its release week!

I'm glad that on this occasion that resulted in being within Top 40 rather than missing out.

Great it stayed top 40 although I was sure it would more than SOTU.

Me too, honestly... I just hope the label is satisifed with this outcome. Universal clearly put more effort into sourcing unreleased songs and mixes for this release, yet it's essentially achieved the same outcome as the more straightforward "just throw on what was already released" Sound of the Underground. I hope they'll continue to go the extra mile for the next few reissues in regards to content.

Anyway, as a fan the most important thing for me is the mere fact that these items exist... I had dreamt so long for Girls Aloud albums to be pressed on vinyl and it's now become a reality! Plus hearing previously unheard songs is great fan service.
