They did from 1992 onwards, when the top 40 extended from 2½ hours to 3 hours. That lasted until some point in the early to mid 00s when records started being skipped once again.

We can thank Wes for that! So 1992-2002 was the full chart? M

Currently listening to the charts on no cloud from 1990 and Bruno Brookes generally skipped some fallers.

Sometimes they would play fallers if there were not enough new entries.

Grew up with diverse charts, and almost every single of note went Top 40. Having something to buy must have helped. Even if I already owned the album and therefore the song, I always opted for the multiple CDs etc to get the b-sides. But not sure if extending to a Top 50 would make it much more interesting considering so many big R1 guitar acts can't even get a Top 100.

Not just guitar bands either. Remind Me by High Contrast felt massive cos of R1 in 2016 and I think it got to #131 or something. And not a big fan of HEAT peaking at fecking #61!

No. I don't even followed the Radio 1 charts anymore after stopped listening to the charts because of Taylor Swift's YTNCD in 2019.
Why, what happened to YNTCD?

In the late 80s/early 90s they would play all new entries and climbers and some of the fallers. The number of fallers was dictated by the chart itself depending on how many new entries and climbers were in the bottom half of the top 40. If there were loads then they started to play fallers from about no.16 but if there were few then they would have time to play fallers from about no.23. But generally the top 15 would always be played in full.

Cant remember if they played non movers in the lower part of the chart. I think not but does anyone know?
